somebody said lent was to morn for the pagan sex deity whose mom was called Easter and used to dye eggs in his offspring's blood on December 25th his birthday while he wore a santa claus hat and his mom said she was queen of heaven and that she turned a bird into an egg laying rabbit to prove it, and that the washington monument style buildings all over the world are homage to his phallus, and that the catholics just mixed all that stuff into resurrection day which is three days after passover as counted in the old testament of the bible and feast of tabernacles is when Christmas should be because the greeks mistranslated tabernacle as manger and the graven image they say is peter that people wore down the base of from rubbing is really supposed to be a captured confiscated zeus statue. odd all this when word from the most high authority said not to add to his words nor diminish from them and not even to worship even him in the way pagan deities have people do because it sickens him. odd
actual authoritative word on what to sacrifice is in luke 14:33 and is depicted in acts 2:44
Lent is something that we were never asked to observe. You cannot find Lent in the Bible. There is no precept that says you must do a 40-day sacrifice through fasting. When you read about fasting, it is always coupled with prayer, and the desire to see an outcome that benefitted man who was desiring God's will. People would be praying for intercession in another person's life to keep them from an early grace so they can still e reached for God.
I have seen where there was a need and one prayed and fasted for several days about that need. That need was met, and it was met in a bigger way than expected.
When I was younger and more religious, I fasted, ate no meat on Fridays, and usually gave up candy... until the baskets stuffed with chocolate bunnies, peeps and jelly beans on Easter Sunday morning.
Now, for me, Lent is just a normal part of the year...
Now that, is something I can admire.
Yes, I give up lent... for lent. Wait a minute, I'm not even Catholic.
If you believe Jesus is who everyone says he was, he wouldn't need food or water even when in human form, right? Besides, the 40 days and nights thing, 40 years wandering, etc, is thematic in the books.
Hmmm... and do you REALLY think the Son of God would be, or could be, tempted by an outcast angel, presuming you believe in that scenario? Have you ever heard anyone say " hey, if Jesus could do this, I can too?"
I don't have new years resolutions, I don't give up anything for lent.
I choose to live a life of constant renewal, I wake up every single day with the goal to be a better person than I was yesterday, to remove things that may have hindered my growth yesterday or add things that I think may stimulate my growth in the future.
I AM not giving up anything. I did try a few times in the past but never succeeded so I gave up trying.
It's not only Catholics that hold on to the Feasts in scripture.
I don't tend to do food fasts currently as I'm diabetic. I did try social media a couple of years ago but it was chaos.
I believe it was his decision, and it brings no obligation to anyone. I don't believe in sacrifice in any form.
Martin Luther didn't nail 95 Thesis to the cathedral door just for me to have to give up meat on Fridays centuries later.
I'm Christian but not Catholic. But I have done lent before but I didn't plan on anything this year.
I'm not catholic, but I live with one. When I lived with muslims I fasted for ramadan, so sure... i'll find something to give up
Problem is I have so little excess in my life it's not like there's much to give up. You're supposed to give up something that matters. Give up going online? I've done that for months by accident, and some people would legitimately wonder if I died considering my medical condition. Give up booze? I don't drink during race season. Fast food? Gave it up after my heart attack. Drugs? Never did them. Gonna be a toughie.
As a non Catholic; I have never celebrated Lent. Likewise I haven't celebrated Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday) either. What I want to know is how do you cut the king cake without cutting the baby inside?
@shortster I Shall Ask My Ex Partner Tonight. lolxx
eventhough he did it, he never said others should.
Probably give up GAG, as well as consuming food later after dinner. Take care!
I gave up church for Lent when I was 12, and never went back.
Are we giving up chocolate for lent? It is Valentine’s Day after all? Where is your heart really at? Is your heart listening to society or the Catholic Church?
lol And The End Tomorrow of Mardi Grawwwwwwww @nawtee_me xx
@nawtee_me I MEAN!!! lol!!! xx
I gave up a lot of foods since January 1. For my diet. Time to eat real food again! So No! Won’t be giving up food!
I'm going to try to cut out sugar because well cigars ain't happening this year
No more than two cookies a day, and two sodas per week.
We each had a pop today to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Not really, I’m Lutheran anyway, not much going on that week for me anyway
I am not doing Lent this year, No disrespect intended.
Oh I’ve moved on from magical thinking decades ago.
I'm giving up celibacy for lent lol
whos with me?
I'm Orthodox Christian and we're supposed to do something like a vegan fast, lent starts 18th March this year by the Julian calender. I'm not sure whether I'll do it this time.
No, I am not Catholic.
@exitseven Like an X Partner, You do Not Need To Be In That Sort of Relationship with A Catholic Church To Sacrifice. lolxx
No but I will have pancakes today.
I always give up lint for lent.
Happy Valentine's day!!
No because it isn’t biblical
