Not really. Praying implies petitioning a god for intervention. Sending good thoughts means manifesting positivity.
I don't believe in supernatural beings, but praying is thinking good thoughts. They may have some power to effect reality through energetic connection. It's like mind over matter. Everything is energy.
Here's something my wife found.
https://www.mind-your-reality.com/seven_universal_laws.html
"All energy and matter, both visible and invisible and at all degrees of existence, is created by and is subject to The Absolute of which your God Self is a Divine Spark. Your mind is one and the same with Universal Mind in Its entirety. And your reality is but a manifestation of your mind, a projection of your consciousness. And since all is mind, this means that you do not have a mind, you are mind. This is the essence of Mind Power."
"When you focus on your chosen desires with intention using creative visualization or other manifesting techniques, what you want to create in the Physical Plane is instantaneously created in the Spiritual Plane. With perseverance, practice and continued concentrated imagination, your desired outcome will also come to manifest in the 3D Physical Plane because the higher vibrations of the Spiritual Plane means it has directive power over the lower ones. In other words, whatever is created in the Spiritual Plane is in time projected in the Physical, because the former directs the latter."
I don't know if sending out positive thoughts to someone is effective. But it can't hurt to send out love and positivity. I think the world needs more of that. It might benefit others and it will most certainly benefit ourselves.
You're welcome!
Different I think, the way I see it is my parents were giving both messages. The ones who wanted me to live and the ones who wanted to comfort my family. There were people who actually prayed that I wouldn’t survive not because they hated me but because I bad TBI (traumatic brain injury). A freak accident.
Hi, I'm God. I would really like to help you with you brother who was hit by a car yesterday and is dying on a hospital bed, but I just haven't gotten enough prayers yet from you and other people who supposedly care about him. If you can gather the "troops" and pull together 20 more prayers, I'll make sure he makes it. Otherwise, I really can't help you. It's all about the numbers. Best of luck.
Oh dear God... is it true that @Sueshe is our new prophet. It seems like she is.
@BlissfullyCurSed If God responds to your question here, please do let us know what he says.
Weren't you the God?
@BlissfullyCurSed No, lol. Did it all just go right over your head?
Praying is With God. Sending Good Thoughts is Just from Your own Heart. xxoo
Wait... don't thoughts come from your head, not your heart? How do you SEND anything from your "heart", or even your head?
@loveslongnails Your Heart is The Pumper So You Can Live? lolxxoo

Nope , in my mind they are both meaningless and ineffective. I see much more meaning in talking to them , giving them my time and or sharing my support. I’m an atheist and sending thoughts or prayers might help a person reconcile thoughts in their head but it’s otherwise useless to the would be recipient.
Most folks have no clue what the metaphysics behind "sending good thoughts" is all about, but prayer is easily understood. "Thoughts and prayers" have become something people say when they don't know what else to say or do, or they really don't care but feel obligated to say something nice.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Sending thoughts do nothing anymore than your thoughts do as your thoughts do not have the power to do anything physical. Praying is putting it in God's hands and he DOES have the power to bring something together. Sending thoughts, or praying for a person after they are dead does nothing, sad to say.
Minor difference.
If they're "praying" it means they're a brain-damaged religious idiot.
If they're "sending thoughts" it just means they're confused. Probably still stupid, but maybe not the terminal levels of stupidity required to adopt a religion.
Thinking positive for someone is always a good thing.
"Sending you good thoughts" implies that the speaker is disavowing any religious connotation to the statement.
They are exactly the same. They do absolutely nothing, what so ever. Wish people would break away from their fears of religion. And just be good people.
Exactly 👍, religion is only useful at spilling blood , bringing famine and death. The almighty , the magical deity in the sky , all powerful and omnipotent but what does he need ……. Money 💰
good people? but how do you define good? anything can be considered good unless you have religion to warn what is immoral and what is bad?
for example if breaking a window is bad then killing a human fetus is worse but atheists try to justify killing a human fetus that is not a "good person", it is evil and cruel and harmful.
@Purpleronnie to ron, you describe one religion that is not most religions.
@Purpleronnie spot on
@strateguy632 Religions also say beat your slaves. A woman must du everything you say or you're allowed to smack her. Or the hilt wars that killed people if they didn't want the convert to their religion? Ssshhhh. And if you do it with a month of getting pregnant it isn't even life yet. So yes people can do what they want. Yoga ether have over population of humans, while many starve or have a hard and horrible life.. So basically people use religion to cover up their bad behaviour.
@strateguy632 . Being a good person is a universally accepted term for a person who is amongst other qualities has , respect for others , is honest , kind,& selfless. Nobody Needs religion , that’s preposterous anthropological garbage. You might need it to give your life order and meaning and dictate your morals Im more of a free thinker. The world needs science and progress , individualism and autonomy all the things that religion impedes but thanks for your views. You’re free to think what you like. Just remember I believe in one less god than you !
@strateguy632 Believing in "man created religions" . So you're the fool of you believe in the non existent. It's called brain washing. You people think there's a magical genie in the sky answering all your wishes. 😂
It's a matter of emotional intent. Great deal of the time it's because they don't want to take physical action, to show it.
Sending someone thoughts through the internet?
Definitely not the same as praying to God to help someone.
Yes, prayer is actually effective while "sending good vibes" is meaningless.
atheists send good vibes which are useless but prayer involves god so sometimes helps
Of course you’re talking to God, God can help immediately
Both are equally meaningless.
