How would you react to a divine punishment?

If God were in some way to punish the world, how would you react?

That would depend pretty enormously on what it was.

I made a habit of studying eschatology when I was in high school, to the point where I'd ask people "If you were trapped on a desert island and could bring only one religion's apocalypse with you, which would it be and why?", which I can tell you is an absolutely FANTASTIC way to make people back away from you slowly, as well as to meet your local crazy people.

One that I've always found interesting is the Zarathustrans'. When the Saoshyant (more-or-less an analogue of the later Jewish Messiah) shows up and starts resurrecting people, eventually prompting a final battle between good and, well, not evil in a pragmatic sense, but a more abstract one. Then two basically-angels and a comet show up and bathe the world in a river of molten metal. To the righteous, it won't burn, and will be like swimming in a warm lake. And since the goal is purification, not punishment, you'll only suffer as much as you have evil in your heart, and once it's gone, it'll be pleasant for you, too. And even the worst of humanity will be finished in three days.

THAT wouldn't be so bad (just kind of, y'know, surprising, given the Zarathustrans' current position in the world). Another Noahic-type flood, on the other hand, would suck. I mean, you KNOW there'd be some submarine captain who decided to shoot torpedoes at God, and then we'd have to spend the rest of eternity listening to those fish who shoot fireballs at Buddha brag about how they told us so. Blegh.

What do you mean, “how would I react?” It’s GOD. What am I gonna do, stop Him? LOL I know! I’ll judge Him for His decision. I mean He IS all powerful and omniscient, but uh, maybe He’s... wrong? LOL

They would have to make their presence known solidly first to prove it was in fact divine punishment and not just life being life.

I think it would take me a bit to get over the shock of that first.

I would prob stand up against it. We aren't puppets in a play house. We feel pain both emotionally and physically.

Terrified, from what I've seen of how God works he only divinely does stuff if it's really needed.. Otherwise he lets life go on as naturally and normally as possible..
