Why do people call out to a god only when bad things happen or someone gets injured badly?

I've seen this many times. Either a natural disaster happens or someone gets terribly disfigured in an accident and all of the sudden, people are like ''Please God have mercy on this poor soul'' or ''Please God help him/her heal, protect him/her''.

Why? By logically sense, they would've been protected even before the accident or disaster stroke. Why do people call out to a god when the damage is done and it's already too late?

Yes it is strange

i was walking back from the pub last night, on the way back I walked past my neighbours house and I think she may have hurt herself or was having a heart attack.
All I could hear was

‘oh God, I’m coming, God I’m coming’

This morning I walked round with a sympathy card and was most surprised to see her answer the door, I decided to save the card for next time.

Arrogance. Faith is the hardest thing to have. And a lot of people's arrogance will not allow them to call out to God until they are in dire straights.

for two possible reasons

1 they seek solace n hope, turning to faith for comfort n strength

2 lack of faith leads some to only remember God during a crisis
