Do atheists genuinely believe God is a fictional character?

It's more like mythology. The Biblical God is no more real than the gods people have believed in since the dawn of hominins when people had rituals for the dead and believed that natural phenomena were caused by gods that had to be appeased.
Even around the world today, many people believe in gods other than the one described in the Bible.

Some forms of spirituality believe in The Great Spirit, a Prime Mover, or simply the Universe (Pantheism).

I'm more of a Pantheist and believe that the universe and God are identical, meaning God is everything and everything is God. This view holds that the divine is not a separate, personal being, but rather an all-encompassing, impersonal reality that is synonymous with the natural world.
I tend to think that the Universe is conscious and everything in it is the universe observing itself. The Universe, itself, it eternal and infinite. I don't even think the universe started with "the big bang". I think it is older and bigger than that. Again, eternal and infinite. The Universe/Creation/Nature just is. It is constantly creating, destroying, evolving. Our amazing planet is a tiny microcosm.

But I think evidence indicates that gods and religions are man made. And I have no idea if our consciousness survives in some afterlife.

More like hoping God is a fictional character, they ask for proof but don't have any to disproof the existence of a god either, they are hopeful so they don't have to make any changes in life and in their behavior, there's been many archeological findings that have shown many clues and similarities to biblical portions in the Bible, the only form of proof atheists want is God to personally come down from the heavens to visit them, these people aren't stupid tho because they know it is biblical that God won't do that until the end of times, which will always be a one way ticket to deny the existence of God, but the thing is that IF God is real (which scientifically the universe having a Creator is a much higher chance than the universe forming by itself) of God is real, they are only fooling themselves.

I've noticed a lot of aggression from atheists, it's not just that they don't believe but it bothers them that you believe, which is what makes agnostics different, agnostics are the true form of disbelief, they live not believing but the idea of a god doesn't bother them, atheism seems more like a ideology rooted from hatred towards god based on the behavior I've witnessed from atheists which usually that form of ideology can only form from people that are truly hoping God doesn't exist, not necessarily uncertainty or disbelief.

No. We see him more as a myth that's evolved into a figure that exists within the human consciousness. A shared idea isn't fictional it's influential, things don't need to be physically real to exist only to have an effect on people.
