Do atheists believe the Bible is just a fairytale?

In a way it is.

Tell me how can it not be seen as a fairy tale or at least very inexact in terms of how the world was created.

While we all know that the Bible was written by men (and mostly men of course), how can you justify a number of events that may have happened that do not match with what science has been able to prove?

For instance, Adam and Eve. Were they literate? Who wrote the story of Adam and Eve? Was it their sons or other descendants?

Also, science tells us that the Big Bang created the universe as we see it. How can a greater entity create the world in just 7 days?

I leave you with just these 2 occurrences and hope to get a scientific explanation.

There is a thing called Cognitive Theories of Negative Interpretation (misinterpretation).

You line up 100 people and the first one whispers a sentence into the ear of the next one. This one in turn whispers the message he thought he understood in the ear of the next one and so forth until the 100th. person receives the message.

The result between what the first one said and what the last one thought he heard is totally different. The Bible is no different. Those are texts written by people and ported over to another and another person until the text is not at all what the first one has written.

I am not anywhere close to atheist but I believe the bible is a fairy tale. It has been so lost in translation over the years that any shred of truth that might have once been in there is long gone. And I have heard Christians say , the devil will mix truth with lies. What does the bible do? And no book has caused more wars in history than that one. I don't think that's really what a God would want out of the instruction manual they left. If there is a satan, which I don't believe, it would just make sense that they wrote the bible as a joke just to watch all the chaos it would create. And it has.

Brandi, the bible didn't creater wars, humans had created wars, if we just live our lives 50% according to the bible, we would feel like we are in heaven, many people who call themselves christians use the book to make excuses for their dark actions such as wars and crimes, not everyone who believes in the bible is a real christian, you have to read what jesus had taught and see if this person whom he/she call themselves christians are doing what the bible had taught them!

God is real and so is Jesus, the bible has been around for more than 2000 years and still the same with billions of followers, why? Is it because it's fake? Ofc not...

People these days want proofs and to see in their eyes, they thing that it's similar to science, well it's not, that's why it's called faith, it's either you believe or not...

The bible teaches us to kill, condemn and judge. How many quotes are in the bible about homosexuals, witches and pagans? " - "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" : Exodus 22:18 . I'm a pagan, lesbian, practicing white witch. Do I seem like such a horrible person?

Yet , due to the "loving teachings" of your book I would be the first one you would burn at the stake like many of my sisters were persecuted before me during the dark times due to the crusades caused by those "loving teachings."

Yes they do... and even i agree about most of previous covenant called old testament. Sure god can do anything but i say those stories are fantasy or at best fable.

Look at how Christians twist "the snake" was the devil we know the story is false, "a snake did not talk to eve in garden!" But book did not say devil.

No. It's a mix of fact, misinterpretation, and ancient stories. The problem is it can be difficult to unravel fact, fiction, and mistake. If nothing more it gives us an insight into the ancient mindset.

Where we differ from religious folk is we don't see evidence for the existence of biblical events or people as evidence for the existence of God. We just appreciate people at the time would have looked on them with religious eyes.

A lot do. But there is a lot of evidence that Jesus Christ was in fact real. I just don't believe he rose from the dead or performed miracles. What likely happened is he was a genuinely remarkable man. A philosopher and a thought leader. A man who encouraged and guided others to live a good life of kindness and decency in a world of hardship and unrefined societal standards.

And without television, social media, video games, or sports, telling stories was one of people's ways of passing time back then. Naturally, like the game of telephone, the stories of Jesus' doings would be warped. Beyond that, undoubtedly people exaggerated and embellished the story for the sake of excitement and pleasure.

Maybe fairytale is not the best word, but bible is clearly not 100% truth. Many things are just metaphors that are supposed to help you understand god or life.

Maybe, because people back then didn't weren't capable to understand more, so jesus and prophets had to use metaphors to make people understand what they meant...

We laugh at these people today because we became smarter and more awqre of our surroundings and everything, okay, let me give you an example about: what of an alien species classifed as a type 3 civilization visits the earth, we will see them as gods and our whole science equations and knowledge won't be able to explain to us 5% of how they have such mind blowing technology, if they will try explain to us their reality, it will be like explaining how we make an atomic bomb to an ant, ib order to make us understand they will use metaphors which our brains can analyze and compare it to things that we are able to understand...

Imagine god who created the whole universe and what's beyond, explain to a fisherman from 2000 years how he created everything in details 😂

The miracles are real by the way because that's the essence of our faith and i believe that we have souls and that there's an after life for sure but what is heaven for real? I don't know, all i know that it's a wonderful place...

Will god burn people in hell, i don't think so, i believe that hell isen't a good place unlike heaven, he wanted us to know that we aren't all the same, you're a good person you go there after death and if you're a bad person you will go there after death, and yes i believe that we aren't all the same, let's say tereza is a good girl, how can i compare her to a serial killer, even our own human laws and no one accepts to put you and the serial killer on the same level, that's why there are laws, right and wrong, good and bad!

God is seeing everything, each one of us will be harvest what he planted through his life in the end...
