We work a later afternoon shift and after work he invites me to come over every night. We sit and talk for hours sometimes having sex after sometimes we just part ways and make plans to see each other the next night. For months he was forced to work one day every weekend till about 7 pm. On the weekdays we work till 11 and sometimes hangout till 5 am.
We had some time off over Christmas but he got caught up in family stuff and then was sick so he ended up cancelling on me multiple times. He does that a lot. It seems like unless I'm driving to his place I won't be seeing him. He asked me if I'd want to go on a holiday with him. He planned a double date for 3 weeks from now.
I asked him once 'what we were' and he said we're basically dating but I want the date that our relationship starts to have a cute memory attached to it.
I've told him multiple times that I need to have actual dates with him not just see him in the middle of the night!!! All we can do is sit in his vehicle because he lives with his parents who don't want me in his room at 2am. When I was telling him to stop cancelling on me and that it felt like he was always making excuses he said I <3 you (I think it was just to get me to stop asking him questions).
The other day he told me he sees this as a long term thing. He wants to take it slow and make it last long. Later I said I love you to him and he just kissed me and said I was cute.

After all that my question is: Is he really too busy to see me during the day? Does it seem like he's all talk but when it comes to actually living up to his promises (our plans) he never follows through?

In high school I was really close to a boy. He was 16, I was 17 going on 18. I got pregnant. I love kids, but he's never wanted a kid. I had to choose my baby or my guy, and I chose my baby. I never asked him to take care of her. I didn't even ask for child support until he asked me why I hadn't filed for it yet when she was a few months old. He paid $30 /mo the first year, then he hit 18 and has paid $148 /mo ever since after we had it adjusted.

He's never had to take care of her for a single day of her life. She does not know that he exists. I have not asked for an increase in child support in 11 years. He and I have stayed good friends, and we rarely discuss her together. During one discussion he said he listed she and I in his life insurance policy, and he plans to buy her a car and help her with a house when she's older and we tell her about him.

We've been struggling a bit financially. I would like to be able to continue to provide her with the best quality of life possible. I have tried to bring up an increase in child support, and he brushed it off with saying that his money is tied up in real estate investments. I didn't ask for a specific number, just whatever he could spare. I don't want to push him to want to help provide for her, and as his friend I don't want to go through child support enforcement to force an increase when we could just talk it out.

Would you simply offer more in this scenario or would you also have the mother of your child go through courts to increase the amount? I'm mostly just curious about how other people would respond.

He has no other kids or financial obligations other than the basics and some slight credit debt. His wife makes more than him, so he's not supporting her. He has a house, cars, steady work, etc. I paid for him to get fixed when he was ready for that and money was tight for him. He's offered to help through tight spots before, but I always told him we'd be fine.
