Myths About Muslims

Anonymous

I just heard about Chattanooga. I'm going to write this anyway. I hope people don't start behaving like we're in 9/11 again.

I see a lot of stupid shit about Muslims on the internet. From what I read, most non-Muslims take things way more seriously than actual Muslims.

Myth #1: Muslims don't date.

You couldn't be more wrong. I live in Turkey, which is (allegedly) a %98 Muslim nation. And people date. You just like you do. There's just one big no-no about this: sex. A girl's virginity is very important pretty much all over the Middle East and for those who are religious, adultery (whjich means having sex outside a marriage, in case you didn't know) is indeed a sin, just like it is in Judaism and Christianity. Even middle school girls, even hijabi middle school girls, want to be asked out.

So, next time you see a Muslim girl and think she's hot, don't back away because she's a Muslim. She'll say no if she doesn't want you. You won't be killed by her brothers. The thing is that we don't do everything exactly like it says in the book, no one does. Have you ever seen a Christian refusing to wear mixed fabrics?

Muslims date, Muslims have sex, Muslims can do whatever they want (but their families probably won't know about this.).

Myth #2: Muslims are terrorists.

I won't say ''Islam is a peaceful religion'' or anything. But I'm not trying to convince you here. Muslims are not terrorists or responsible for terrorists' actions. People say they have to do something to stop terrorists. No. They don't have to. My country is Muslim. They have nothing to do with this. Syrian refugees are Muslims. They have nothing to do with this. Bosniaks, Emiratis, Turkmens, Lebanese, Egyptians, they have nothing to do with this. The only ones responsible for terrorism are the terrorists. I don't know what ISIS is trying to do, but it isn't for Allah. If it was, they wouldn't be bombing mosques. Same with Taliban. In which part of the Quran does it say girls can't get an education and you need to shoot them in the head if they try to?

ISIS did this. In Saudi Arabia. Mohammed Hassan Ali bin Isa and Abdul-Jalil al-ArbashThose people would be dead if it wasn't for two brave men, Mohammed Hassan Ali bin Isa and Abdul-Jalil al-Arbash, who were outside at the moment. They didn't let the suicide bomber in and saved all those people's lives, but they died. They were cousins.

Myths About Muslims

ISIS tried to kill people while they were praying. ISIS did kill people while they were praying before. This is the biggest proof what they do isn't about Islam. They're a bunch of crazy motherfuckers who have nothing to lose.

Myth #3: All Muslims have to fast, no matter what, and seeing food pics break their fast:

I heard this one from teenager SJW girls on Tumblr who always want to protect minorities without knowing what the hell they are doing.

Fasting is a choice. If you're not capable of fasting (you may be old, sick, on medication, or living in an extremely hot area where you'll get dehydrated very fast) then you don't fast. It's even better if you don't fast in those situations, because if you do, you're hurting yourself and Allah won't want this. If you're a woman, you can't fast when on your period. Those are the rules.

Food pictures do not break your fast. Completely untrue. I've never heard that in my life. Actually, we even send each other food pictures during Ramadan for fun.

Gambling, drinking alcohol and eating pork are all forbidden in Islam, but Turkish/Kurdish Muslims usually don't see problem with the first two. Many people bet on horse races here and most people love to drink our national alcoholic drink ''raki''. I don't know about other Muslim countries.

When it comes to hijab, it depends on the person and the family here. In some families they teach the girls to wear hijabs and more (like niqab, but I've never seen a burqa) from an early age and some families don't. Some girls choose to wear them. In Iran and probably a nuber of other countries, you have to wear them. Iranian women are trying to abolish the law that says they have to cover their heads in public with the movement ''My Stealthy Freedom''. In the Quran it says ladies should cover their heads and necks, but no one is forcing you to do anything. My family always said there's no pressure in religion. In fact, the people who ask why don't we obey these rules are often non-Muslims, saying things like ''But you're not a Muslim if you don't do xyz!''

So, Muslims don't live with endless rules and they're not incapable of doing things non-Muslims do (such as attending prom). No one's holding a gun to their head if they do or don't certain things. It's only between them and Allah.
