Recognize Humanity

RECOGNIZE HUMANITY

RECOGNIZE-acknowledge the existence, validity, or legality of.

HUMANITY-the human race; human beings collectively.

Thurgood Marshall says : "In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute."

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.

I saw these two words recently. I saw a picture where these two words were written on the arms of a person. One word across each arm of a person I used to know. I had to stop and think about Humanity for a minute when I saw the photo. The photo truly OVERWHELMED ME! You see I have never forgotten about humanity, but throughout time, I thought this person had. While viewing the photo, it reminded me that we all need to find just that piece of us that will stop and recognize humanity.

I have been fortunate on this web site. I have become an Influencer and an Editor in a fairly quick amount of time. Someone was asking me for advice one day, and said this to me: "Wait you can't see me, I am black." I told them I didn't see in black and white. You see, I have been so fortunate to meet people from various Countries and Cultures through this website. To speak to them, to know who they are, and to learn that their time zone doesn’t matter, their background doesn’t matter because ultimately it is their humanity that matters. I have friends now in Turkey, in Sweden, in London, Australia, and many more right here in the USA thanks to this website. I love the human race. I love learning new things, and I love sharing and learning from others.

Especially during this season, we need to see it- you know HUMANITY. Today for me It was that homeless man holding a sign- when I stopped at a traffic light near my home. He walked toward me at the traffic light. I handed him a dollar and an unopened bottle of water that was in my car. He folded his hands as if to pray, and bowed at me, and turned and walked away. You see, especially in the state in which I live, if someone looking rugged comes toward you in the middle of an intersection, folks tend to roll up their windows, or hurry through the light. Not me, not on this day. There is a song by Brad Paisley with lyrics that go something like this:

There's a man standing on the corner
With a sign sayin "will work for food"
You know the man
You see him every morning
The one you never give your money to
You can sit there with your window rolled up
Wondering when the lights going to turn green
Never knowing what a couple more bucks
In his pocket might mean

It was this song’s words that came to my mind when I saw the man this afternoon.

This week and during this season especially, I want to ask you to step outside your immediate circle and validate those around you. The faces you see on the subway, on the streets, in the hall or the elevator.
Meet them with a smile or a compliment. Talk to someone on your campus that you don’t know. Someone in your class, or at your work site.
Recognize their humanity.
Let them know their life matters.
Don’t be fooled by first impressions and rough exteriors. When we dare to go beneath the surface, we find that we are all made of the same stuff: dreams and fears, hopes and aspirations.

When you look at people this week, try to recognize their humanity.

What we forget A LOT of the time, is that there is a human being standing in front of us.

Now we can see this as we should all be treated equal. However, equality doesn't necessarily mean we are all the same, just that we should be treated as so. If we are to really be truthful here, we are about as 'equal' individually as Night and Day. We are all unique in the way we think and sense the world: Some of us are really book smart, while others do not have the mental ability to read; Some can go out to a crowd and out-goingly connect everyone, while others are better at sitting at home with a few friends; Some can handle mathematics, while others can handle the linguistics of any language. Some can lift a ton, while others can't even throw a marble in a straight line. The beauty of these differences is that all of it can come together to create a well productive economy and society by complimenting one another --Just like Night and Day come together to create a full and beautiful Day. As Humans, our greatest strength is in working together. We can be highly productive and destructive in numbers.

I see humanity in the opinions on this website every day. We don't know one another, but most of us try to help out by giving answers to guide or steer the person in the right direction. We come from everywhere here on girls ask guys, yet we all have and share a lot of the same difficulties and backgrounds.

Please, make an effort to shove aside your judgment, negativity and urge to be funny at someone else’s expense, and instead try to take them in with the knowledge that there’s so much more there than meets the eye.

How beautiful is that, that the possibilities within that person are endless?

There’s an added bonus to this:

When you view other people with openness and love, you will be viewed that way more often as a result.
