Border Crossing US Canada: What you need to know.

Border Crossing US Canada: What you need to know.

Recently, before Donald Trump's executive order on immigration, car loads of American citizens from Arab backgrounds were returning to the US from a wedding they'd all attended. They were entering back in from different check points from Detroit to New York. All were subjected to similar treatment.

Though the cars contained 100% US citizens all were immediately detained and stripped of their cell phones, laptops and anything else data driven for searches. They were held for up to 16 hours or more in some cases. In most cases when these citizens were released the phone were not.

These are upstanding members of society. One was a professor and another a surgeon. The surgeon was given his phone back after hours of pleading that he is always on call and needs his phone in case he has to perform an emergency operation.

So if you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having to cross a border then try to regain entry what should you do?

BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO CROSS THE BORDER CONTACT THE ACLU.

Just as we used to register with the State Dept if we were traveling to Venezuela or Haiti we now must announce we are leaving then reentering and may need help.

Contact the ACLU before your trip and contact them before you try to re-enter the US. Also, contact your personal attorney if you have one. Let them know the approximate time you'll be crossing and where.

Have them (ACLU and attorney) call you at that time and if you do not respond after several attempts arrange ahead of time that they will file a Writ of Habeas Corpus. It's a court order deamanding to capture produce the body. This is and will be necessary for each person. Without this Writ you have no way of escaping. They deny you any access to an attorney or family once you are in their grips. You must coordinate with an attorney about your border crossing time and location. They will be able to asses you're being unlawfully detained and get the court involved.

It is very important to understand border patrol can detain you indefinitely. Sadly, from reports around the country they seek the thrill of this power and often do abuse the unbridled power given to them.

Best strategy is to not leave the states. But if you are anything like me that isn't an option and that isn't freedom for all.

So if you have to leave and can't afford your own attorney PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, contact the ACLU. They will help you for free.

Their memebers double since Trump's election from 500,000 to over 1M. Trust me it's a good sign, the US wants to do the right thing.

Please PM me if you need help getting in contact with free services that will protect you.
