Effeminacy seems to be rampant in today's world. More and more men and boys are shaving their chest like never before and even non bicyclists are shaving their legs and arm pits. You almost never would hear of this from 1990 or earlier. I think a lack of discipline and fathers not training their sons how to be men of mighty valor is part of this not so comely trend progressing into acceptance. Many men do not even get bothered at men like this. You have fathers encouraging boys to behave effeminately and it makes them null to how to become better men later in life.

Also, you have girls who are taught to compete with boys, discourage from being ladies of opportunity and told she can do it. Well, we need girls who are proud to be girls: girls who like playing patty cake, baking cookies, playing dress up and not rough housing with the boys and get dirty and muddy with them. We need separation of the sexes. You have mother allowing their daughter to wear blue jeans and allowing her to get skinhead type haircuts and other boyish styles. Girls need hair to be their glorying beauty, not embarrass their femaleness with getting shorter hair, if by all means she can help it.

We need to allow boys to be boys and girls to be girls and quit blurring the lines. It makes for a confusing society between our kids. It messes up their minds.

I find problems with it but not because it makes me uncomfortable or anything like that. If there are effeminate guys, so be it.

The trouble I see is that for any person to succeed in a harsh workplace as an adult, male or female, they need a fairly tough mindset. If effeminate means delicate, sensitive, sheltered, and easily-offended, those are not the types of qualities that create leaders, soldiers, competitors, providers.

Yet I think this trend is not necessarily the result of fathers originally, at least in the original generation. The second generation who could up like this might become fathers of the type you described who encourage effeminate behavior, but the first "wave", if you will, I think came more from the absence of fathers.

The video above focuses on the declining academic performance of boys in more "feminine"-centric public schools, but consider what types of boys excel in these feelings-oriented, anti-competitive, poetry-loving types of environments.

It's not necessarily a matter of conscious choice that boys become effeminate. If we raise them a certain way, they'll turn out a certain way. If we want a different result, we have to change the type of social conditioning.

Now if we look at the graph above, single motherhood started to see a sharp rise around mid-1960s. This also coincides when the US began its war on poverty and developed the welfare state. Seeing the number of single mothers escalate at that point should be expected since original welfare programs provided incentives for single motherhood while discouraging the nuclear family.

I believe this is all interrelated. Society started turning its back on men after the war on poverty began, starting with the breakdown of the nuclear family.

With the 70s we had Nixon declaring the war on drugs and Reagan doubling up those efforts in the mid-80s.

This also split apart families by imprisoning the fathers primarily. That probably also contributed to the rising number of single mothers. Basically the whole family unit started falling apart from the mid-60s and onward.

Of course some people blame this all on feminism, but I think these economic policies probably contributed just as much or more. My main worry is male suicide rates, incarceration rates, declining median wages, and declining academic performance. I think it's all interrelated. Effeminate guys are just kind of a symptom of a deeper root problem as I see it.

Meh, gender roles are just a social construct. If a girl wants to play sports or do some other things which are usually "generalized" as "manly", she has right to do it, regardless of what "society thinks".
The same goes for the boys who are not into fighting, repairing and other so called "male things".

HOWEVER, lots of boys are INTERESTED in "male-centric" things but are being prohibited from doing them or learning about them. "Too violent" "too loud" "too dangerous" etc.

Similarly, lots of girls who WANT to be a mom and raise kids and cook and stay home are being shamed as being gender-traitors and "setting women back a century."

I'm all for people doing what they WANT to do - but they should be encouraged to follow their path, EVEN when that path follows "traditional gender norms", and they shouldn't be shamed for it.

I have no issue with boys playing with dolls (I had "action figures" as a kid), nor with girls playing sports or climbing trees or jumping bikes off ramps if that's what they want, but it needs to be okay for girls to have dolls and do hair and for boys to skateboard and explore fields and creeks.

This is how I feel. Society dictates what is masculine and what is feminine. We are not going to wake up and see boys all excited about playing dress up and girls all collecting baseball cards and trading them in her friends. Their minds think differently, regardless how much training we try to make them think different.

I think changing it would cause confusion and then boys and girls wouldn't even value their differences. Humans are special. We are not like the other animals. We are meant to have separation between the sexes and it should be celebrated.

I wouldn't like living in a world where boys and girls both wear nail polish or both wore suits and ties to their prom. I don't want the reversal of roles either.

I don't agree with equal rights. Men and women are not equal and never will be. That was part of my point in doing this take, to show how we are meant to be different. I used boys and girls rather than men and women to pinpoint that it is something that doesn't just magically happen in adulthood by a choice but how our brains perceive the differences.

I am not comfortable with it because I feel it confuses the sexes. Yes, I believe women should be keepers of the house and men should be workers in the work force. I also don't agree with some of my family's views about women in the military. I don't agree with women wearing jeans and pants.

I agree with you, it is interesting to hear different points of view. It is genuinely nice to tale to someone who actually seems to be educated on the subject. But still, I do wonder just how much you would genuinely like to return to a 1950s style America over all of the advantages and conveniences that equality has brought you.
Like I say, turning back the clock means turning back the clock, there is no picking and choosing in the real world: disagreeing with equality is your right but what comes with that are limited promotion prospects, a wage gap that isn't made up, terrible abortion rights, a husband that would most likely get away with hitting you etc.

The opposite seems to be true on the hitting part rather than going both ways. Why do you feel it is that way? A woman likely can hit a man and get away with it, even if he has obviously bruises. A woman can slap a man in public and get away with it. Technically a crime, but not enforced upon women like it is with men.

I agree with you on that double standard, its horribly unfair. But as men have double the strength of a woman (on average) it is one that makes sense from a certain POV. NO ONE should be beaten by their partner no matter what their sex, but facts are facts, an ordinary man punching an ordinary woman will cause twice as much damage.
That is also one of the reasons why girls have a reputation of going for the balls in an argument (I think thats disgusting behavior by the way, i'm saying thats why girls do it).
