Republicans in North Carolina’s House of Representatives introduced a bill that would grant legal protections for drivers who hit protesters that are blocking the roadway.

Approving House Bill 330 68-48 in a party-line vote on Wednesday, Republicans the News Observer notes that the bill comes in response to protests last fall in Charlotte over the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.

“These people are nuts to run in front of cars like they do … and say, ‘me and my buddy here are going to stop this two-and-a-half-ton vehicle,’” said Rep. Michael Speciale, a New Bern Republican and a supporter of the bill. “If somebody does bump somebody, why should they be held liable?”

The driver of a car that plowed into a crowd of demonstrators in the midst of a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Saturday was arrested after the crash left a 32-year-old woman dead and 19 others injured, police said.

White nationalist and other attendees clashed with those who arrived to oppose the demonstration, which began with a torch-wielding group marching through the city Friday evening and was intended to culminate in an event entitled "Unite the Right," set to begin at noon on Saturday.

However, the event was shut down by authorities in the early afternoon. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city and police ordered the crowds to disperse.

Video taken in the afternoon after the demonstration was shut down shows crowds walking along a downtown Charlottesville street as several cars move slowly along the same avenue. Abruptly, a gray Dodge Challenger rams into the back of another vehicle, slamming one or more cars ahead of it amid the crowd of protesters. The driver then rapidly reverses away from the scene.

These racist white people were outraged that Obama run the 2008 election, and won the 2012 re-election.

With a woman running in 2016, "there's no way that a black man, followed by a woman, should run the county, because they are taking away our power!"

So out of FEAR, these White Nationalists rallied around President Trump, and Trump sold out to these White Nationalists (who may not have voted in mass unison for a candidate since Reagan), and tapped into that "silent majority" to get the edge in the election... and he is indebted to them.

@DonkeyRick69 Some of the "silent majority" of America probably didn't vote at all, or were divided in who to vote for, in previous election cycles.

Yes Hillary not being as unifying as Obama was in terms of aura and image, and caused a split in the Democratic votes.

But that "silent majority" unifying their votes is the main factor why Trump was able to edge by and clench most of the swing states, and seal the election. The tallied individual votes in the swing states were VERY close.

@DonkeyRick69 The dem voters were too split amongst Hillary/Bernie/Jill Stein/Gary Johnson. In fact, it is no secret that many of the Dem voters are pissed at the division of their fellow party-mates, because those voters felt the division is why Trump ended up winning.

i think we can point to trump and his campaign for creating an environment htat fosters hate and legitimizes many of these intolerant and hate filled acts, messages, and beliefs but i think it's unfair to blame it on him entirely. i will blame him for not comign out earlier and condemning the actions. i can think of few politicians who would know that white supremacists were standing outside his rallies or marching his their name and not denounce their activities

the sad thing is the writing was on the walls. hate crimes committed by white supremacists has been rising, the FBI, CIA and DHS all warned the administration that there was a high potential for violence and of course our president did nothing. and we can expect to see more behavior like Saturday in the future.

so i don't blame trump entirely but i think he certainly deserves some blame for not doing a single thing to stop the behavior or come out sooner and denounce it as hate crimes have been occurring more frequently since his election

Blame the left, because the violence, hatred, intolerance, bigotry and racism have been, almost exclusively, their domain. They're a would be fascist hate group and they do not have my sympathy at all.

And the sad thing is, that I'd normally say that the right took things too far, but I've seen these "peaceful" protesters, I've seen them show up carrying mace, bricks and other weapons, I've seen them violently attack people while the police just look on. I've seen them initiate violence and then cry and act like a victim when the person that they're attacking acts in self defense. Many of us have seen them what they are and we're not falling for their lies, propaganda or political agendas anymore.

These people are irrational and violent and they're the ones that are trying to start a war.
