My Take on "Fat Shaming"

Have you ever seen somebody fat shaming somebody else? Fat shaming is the act of making fun of, or judging somebody on their body size. When/if you saw somebody fat shaming, what did you think? I think most people would agree with me, it's an awful thing to do to another human.

But think deeper. Is being fat exactly a good thing? I say no. Being fat is a flaw. I think it's stupid to say that being overweight is not a problem, and that you should just overlook it. In some sense, yeah, you shouldn't point it out or make a big deal out of somebody's body, but it's still a flaw. Another thing people say when somebody is overweight, is, "be happy with who you are". Once again, I think that's unreasonable. If you agree with me that being fat is a flaw, then you should agree with me that it's something you can and should fix.

Of course even overweight people should still be proud of themselves, since they're still (mostly) amazing people with purposes and upsides. So let's treat them like it. My conclusion: Instead of shaming overweight people, let's encourage them to try to do what's best for themselves. Fat shaming needs to end. They aren't different than us, so we need to make sure we aren't excluding them.
