If people are allowed to have and carry guns by law, and you don't agree with this, then you have to try and change that law by going through the proper channels and by protest, if necessary. You may not own a gun, but you are entitled to protest. That's democracy. You cannot say you are liberal and take the fascist line on not allowing people to protest because you don't agree with it.
Here's what I don't get. So called feminists go on and on about how much we need equality... and yet here they are advocating for the flat ban of what is essentially the ultimate equalizer? How the hell does that make any sense?
I'm not a feminist.
different places have different rules, laws, privileges, policies, etc. as long as there are nothing in her state or county that forbids her from carrying that weapon and that she is properly licensed, then it's just that, because of how those rules, laws, etc. are. although i suppose if they don't like those laws they can always repeal and change them in future elections and the people that live in those places decide for themselves.
I like her! She has every right as well to push for college students to be allowed to carry firearms.
Do you believe David Hogg has no right to preach gun control because he's not a high school student anymore?
Everyone is about defending themselves but what about fucking school shootings then everyone just carrying a gun and shooting people or some shit that ain't gonna work out
Thanks! I really want to disavow this MyTake. There are too many trolls on here--not you, obviously.
What do you mean by the "what about fucking school shootings then everyone just carrying a gun and shooting people" part?
Don't school shootings involve 1 armed gunman and a school-full of defenseless people? If the good people in the school were armed, wouldn't they be able to wipe-out the "lone gunner" before he could kill a 2nd victim (or even the 1st if he failed to pull the trigger on time)?
I.. I don't understand why anyone would carry around a gun like that at all.. its not safe.. its not normal...
Gun girl is hot. I'm all for her right to bear arms, the thing that makes men and women equal is firearms in any physical altercation. Sad but true.
"You shouldn't protest about some bullshit that doesn't currently affect your life."
I thought Kent State was all about freedom and the protection of civil rights. A protecting minorities like this small group. She has me all hot. Look at those arms and biceps. Locked and load with finger on the safety.
When someone goes nuts and starts shooting... Who do you need at that time?
Exactly. People might get criminal background checks... for college, but not psychological checks!
She's doing nothing of the sort. We have a constitution for a reason - and 2A guarantees our right to defend ourselves. Quit whining about it.
The Supreme Court has also ruled that the right to bear arms is NOT unlimited, just like the right to free speech is not unlimited. There are additional state and local ordinances that can apply, albeit Ohio is indeed one of the least restricted open carry states. From the research I've done, which is not extensive, it seems that "gun girl" could be asked to leave the premises if she's not a student, faculty or employee, or asked there by invitation. Students "could" be subject to school sanctions whether it be open carry or concealed carry with a permit. In Ohio, a permit for concealed is still required to open carry in a vehicle, so there are other factors in play besides the 2nd amendment.
@loveslongnails - you're not convincing me and my guess is I've forgotten more about firearm law than you know.
If you want to see what successful gun control looks like simply check out the major metropolitan areas around the country, like chicago, LA, SF, NY.
The anti's are idiots - there is no basis of fact or logic, it's all just their feelings.
I'm not trying to "convince" you of anything, nor even discuss gun control philosophy, which you would have realized if you looked more closely at my words. I merely pointed out that the SCOTUS has made subsequent rulings and that states also have certain powers when it comes to gun laws, as do local authorities. As to you forgetting more law than I ever knew, laws often change. You can easily look up current laws state by state. Perhaps this knowledge would benefit you.
The many nuances of this issue can't be close to fully captured, even in a Take. Suffice it to say there is no foolproof solution either way.
Do you really think college campuses are immune to gun violence or mass shootings? People have a right, and arguably a need, to protect themselves. I'm on her side on this one. And no, I'm not a conservative / Republican.
"This is straight up Republican and doesn't belong in a very very Liberal college."
YOU are exactly why liberals are known as the most intolerant people in society today, despite their ignorant belief that they are fighting FOR tolerance. Liberals are only tolerant of those who agree with them.
Oh cool let's make the next shooting at Kent State a firefight instead of just a flat out execution of students by the National Guard. That'd be keen.
It will totally change up paintball frat parties when the pissed off emo kid has a real gun!
I've heard less logical arguments about gun free zones than non-gun free zones so far, so meh.
Why is she there in the first place? It's not an educational matter.
It is a public school and a constitutional issue. If it were a private school they could ban her.
@JackJPershing I don't know what you mean by "a Constitutional matter." She should do whatever she's doing at the statehouse in Columbus if that's what she thinks.
Gun rights and free speech are both constitutional matters. Kent State is a public university, thus state property. As such they are required, under the SCOTUS's incorporation of the Bill of Rights under the 14th's Equal Protection Clause, to allow peaceful access. If it were a private university they could tell her to take a hike.
Personally I find her kind of annoying. She seems to be grandstanding and trying to get famous over it, alternately claiming it isn't about her and then complaining when she gets challenged, often ridiculing her opponents.
Frankly, I think she is hurting gun rights more than helping. I have seen first hand the damage that firearms can do to a human body, so while I support the right of law-abiding people to be armed, I also have zero problem with requiring firearm use and safety training and psychological exams before issuing carry permits.
@JackJPershing Good. But that's what I mean-- she's grandstanding. She's an attention-seeker first and foremost.
Im actually surprised that not more people are getting shot in the US
I don’t support guns but I like anything that offends people just for the entertainment
You are all pro female till the female is against the status quo shit that you all spew. Then you gang up on them and act like hypocrites.
Is she advocating for carrying guns on campus? Or is she just already going it?
