The election has been over for months, but the rancor it spawned among families, friends and couples is not fading. Therapists say they’re seeing an unusually high number of clients seeking professional help in dealing with political polarization in their relationships.
“It’s causing tensions that I’ve not heard about in past elections,” said Bill Doherty, a family social science professor at the University of Minnesota.
“I’ve even heard from colleagues of married couples considering breaking up.”
So a person you never will meet. share a drink with, dine with, speak to, is basically making you consider everything and ruin things you have (unless its already a nail in it coffin...
Our family is like many American families. We are made up of white, middle class citizens, LGBT members and immigrants. Our reunions take place on a large green lawn overlooking Gloucester harbor in August. Yellowed photographs of deceased family members are passed around and their life stories are lovingly recollected, family histories are retold. All of this promotes a sense that we have a shared narrative and a common set of values, and in many ways we do. But when we return to our smaller family units, we face different realities. And for many of us, the reality is that we are the enemy.

Russia is abandoning a key missile treaty the day after the United States said it was suspending participation, renewing concerns about a nuclear arms race between the two countries.
“We will respond quid pro quo,” President Vladimir Putin said Saturday, according to the Associated Press. “Our American partners have announced they were suspending their participation in the treaty and [we] will do the same."
