The bill of rights was written for a republic small central government let the states govern themselves. I hold a cwp myself whether I choose to carry is a different matter. Bottom line is our military isn’t supposed to operate on American soil and if guns are taken are taken from citizens it’s a blatant statement of government control. We are becoming the opposite of what the founding fathers intended and young generations are being taught how not to think for themselves because that would be to difficult.

The south was seceding so that points invalid. Hence Union s confederacy The civil war wasn’t about slavery to begin with. It was the south having crops to export and the north had ports and the railroads. Lincoln freed the slaves in hopes to get more troops.

I understand the civil war wasn't about slavery, I never made that point. I brought up the civil war to show an example of American soldiers being deployed on American soil, I also offered two other examples of this. This was because you said that the American army was not meant to be deploted on American soil, seemingly implying it was the duty of the militias to defend home soil? Maybe I read that wrong.

I brought up slavery in a separate point, when I brought up slavery I was trying to show an example of the founding fathers enacting government control since you seem to think government control is wrong and that the founding fathers would be against it. The founding fathers and many presidents through history used government control in good ways.

Regardless, perhaps I should argue on the point of gun control since we are getting off topic. You said "and if guns are taken from citizens it's a blatant statement of government control.", you seem to be implying a ban with your wording here, but most people are not arguing for a gun ban but stricter restrictions on gun owners to prevent incapable, psychotic, unstable, and/or irresponsible people from acquiring firearms. In this way you have made a strawman fallacy.

I’m from the south. We all had a firearm by the age of 9. Stricter bans on people that obey the laws isn’t helpful. But i would just assume let the criminals shoot each other. And I meant against our own citizens. Under federal law they can use 5000 soldiers to police.

@akida63 I'm from Canada. I had my hunting license by 12, had been shooting guns legally since 7, had my gun license by 16 but had already technically owned a gun beforehand it just wasn't in my name and I had to store it with someone who owned their firearm license (not hard since my entire family has theirs). Essentially since I was always with someone who had a license it was legal even though I didn't have mine. The regulations only stopped me from messing around with the guns when my parents werent around, which is how kids get shot. I've heard many stories from my local pastor/paramedic about the children he has seen injured or killed accidentally when two children get their hands on a gun (belonging to the father of one of the children).

I am not for bans, I am against gun bans of all forms, including the ones in my country that ban sawed off shotguns. What I support is smart gun regulations that prevent criminals, psychos, and idiots from getting guns, because I do not think every person should own a gun. I think owning a gun should be a right extended to only those who can pass a simple gun safety test, show that they are mentally stable/responsible, and show a need for a gun (I dont think the majority of people need guns simply for self defence, that is an excuse many criminals can exploit to acquire guns. In Canada you usually acquire guns for hunting or shooting at the range, neither of which are difficult to show. If you enjoy shooting then why wouldn't you be going to the firing range around once a month anyways?). So when you say "stricter bans on people that ibet the laws isn't helpful" you are making a strawman fallacy. Gun regulation like I propose, as well as the wones Canada currently has do not really hurt lawful gun owners, only those who want to exploit the system to commit crimes. I can say from experience that it is not hard to get your required licenses for gun ownership/hunting here. You pretty much just need basic firearm safety and cleaning knowledge, other than that if you obey the laws then you are almost guaranteed to get a gun license. The people who are banned from getting guns are people the courts deem to be unfit or too dangerous to be permitted to own firearms, this is a small number of people and the majority of people on there committed crime with a firearm and that is why they are banned.

Unfortunately it is just a set of rights not a set of responsibilities. The responsibility may have been implied however is not legally relevant.
The problem of rights with implied but not mandated responsibility exists all over the place (from the right to vote to copyright). I think it exists because it's only the rights people fight for.

I'm not trying to come off as rude but the majority of people dont want to take your guns away, they just want proper regulations. Personally I am a Canadian, I legally own guns, I legally hunt, I legally go to the gun range. The regulations in place that help prevent psychopaths and mentally incapable/irresponsible people from acquiring guns.

To put it another way, we have a test to ensure you are capable and of a sound mind before you are allowed to get your drivers license. Same with a gun license, I have to take a test to prove my capability and the soundness of my mind to a representative of the Canadian government.

In reality it is not hard to get a gun license, like it is not hard to get a drivers license, you just have to show you are qualified. What is wrong with that?

Finally, Japan has some of the strictest gun laws in the world and some of the lowest gun related deaths in the world. Gun control laws do work at keeping guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them. Regardless, should we really decide our laws by whether or not people will follow them? People will commit murder no matter what law you put in place...
