Sigh. I could have enjoyed greek life if I grew up in a state that wasn't starstruck by urban culture.

Anyway, I'm glad that Ca as a minority majority state has that representation for minority cultures in the US -- but let's be honest, that's not me. :P

I could have had such a good time out in some other state somewhere, I don't know, pick one, Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio 🤷🏻‍♂️. But no. 🙄😭

Just "liked" your question, simply because it is a wonderful example of how some aspects of USA culture differ from others. I can't speak for elsewhere, but formal social fraternities are not an aspect of most UK universities (other than some arcane and suspect aspects of Oxbridge).

I can't say I understood the whole "Greek" thing either. I loathed the young communists and the ethnic tribalists, but I didn't like the frat bros and sorority types either. Then again, I was at a University of California campus.

See, this is the difference between a frat amd a fraternity. A frat people join to party or look like these duces mongers. No matter where you go they all look like this. Now a fraternity is a brother hood. Yeah we party. But, we also do things to help our local community. And, our brother hood. We do not treat females like shit. We don't drug females. Our grades are a priority. And how we look to our school and community is a priority. So, not all greek life is like this. I hate even saying greek life. I also hate to say this. It's mostly white frats. Not black fraternities.

what do they look like? And yes, I had a roommate once tell me 'have you ever seen a poor frat guy?' And I never realized that until now, but it's true.

I think greek life should either be banned for these reasons or sororities should be able to host house parties that are open to the student body in order to give young men the chance to attend a greek life party.

I've been to lots of Cali Frat Parties and none of them dressed like that unless there was a theme. And as for the rest pretty sad you can't tell them apart just a bunch of FOLLOWERS...

um no, Whites are assumed to come from perfect families so if one doesn't it's considered weird.

There's division in culture due to redlined mortgage policies in the 90's. Non-whites were died mortages for the suburbs and that set the course for the next two decades.

Understanding the 2010's requires looking at redlining practices. In fact, arguably the 2008 housing crises is actually because of redlining.

Life in the ghetto is hard, but it is also honest and 'put up or shut up.' Nobody has time for fake anything, which is why these kinds of people are hardend and polished.

It was inevitable that harsh living conditions would distill out strong individuals. That happened in the 90's. Now the ghetto is calm and safe. Gang wars have ended, for the most part, territories have been set and families now focus on improving the next generation.

But whites are still stuck in the 'every man for themself free for all' mindset. So the reversal of wealth from whites to non-whites is inevitable. No different from the new trends of women outperforming men in high education due to feminist organization and galvanization.

In all honesty, I need to cut ties with my family and move on with the new culture because the old way is dead in California. My future is best served with progressives.
