If you were President of the USA, what are the top 10 things you would change/do when you got in office?

With all the nonsense going on today with politics, if you were President of the USA and chose to not be the Status Quo politician, what are the top 10 things you would do to change/implement to make this country what it was before political correctness and the loss of family values.

These are what you would do personally, not what your Party or Lobbyist Group want, AND even if Congress would Veto it, you have the backbone to propose it.

**Please do not go on a rant or make political comments about the current or past administrations. ONLY LIST THE 10 THINGS YOU WOULD DO:

Here are mine:
1 Income Tax is a flat 10%. No deductions, etc. Everyone pays 10%

2 Stop giving money to other countries before we take care of our poor and veterans. There should not be any Americans living at Poverty Level or below. After our citizens are taken care of, then consider helping other countries.

3 No National Debt. If we don't have the funds, we don't spend the money.

4 All laws to be passed are ONLY for ONE thing. No more burying other things, like Congressional pay raises in a Law to be passed.

5 Term Limits on Politicians. This is not a career job. Serve your country, then move on. Only one government retirement for politicians. The last job you do is the only retirement you get.

6 Welfare is to help you get back on your feet, not a life long system to avoid working and getting free money. After the Depression, Franklin helped people get back on their feet. Welfare should be only for a year and during that time, you get educated and also have to work to pay for Governmental support. Having more kids to get more money AND deadbeat dads that won't marry a woman are WRONG!

7 The same "rules" (medical, retirement, taxes, etc.) for Politicians as for Citizens.

8 No financial, medical, education, etc. support for NON-Citizens. If you are here illegally, no rewards for committing the crime of sneaking into a country.

9 Deportation of illegal immigrants, just like Australia & Germany do. If you want to come to the USA, do it legally and come through approved entry portals. Other countries need to stop sending their criminals, losers, uneducated, and bad elements to the USA to get rid of them.

10 Reinstate the Family Unit by putting God back in America. Make a marriage what it was before Political Correctness said regular people have to be Tolerant of others' views. (Tolerant per the dictionary means (paraphrased) "putting up with something Evil, Bad, Wrong, and/or morally detestable and vile.)

**Again, no making negative comments about what things I and others post... This is not a rant session or finger pointing. Treat it as a normal survey with NO COMMENTS section.

Well, some of these are things that the President doesn't have the authority to change and some probably aren't even constitutional, but here are 10 things I'd really want to change. They are not in order of importance, though the first few are probably required to have any chance of doing any of the others.

1) Change the way the House and Senate work to significantly reduce the power of the Speaker and the Senate majority leader. No one individual should have absolute power over whether things even get voted on or the ability to bribe or threaten people with things like committee assignments if they don't vote a certain way.

2) Eliminate gerrymandering. A computer program or impartial panel (if that's possible) should draw the district boundaries based solely on things like city/county boundaries or natural boundaries like large rivers. Things like political affiliation, race, and income should not be a factor in the drawing of the boundaries and districts should as compact as possible.

3) Have publicly funded political campaigns or only allow individual citizens to contribute (a limited amount) to campaigns. Corporations, associations, PACs and any other group should be prohibited from contributing to campaigns in any way (including independent advertising) or doing any lobbying. The people in those organizations have rights as individuals to make contributions and to express their opinions, but cannot use corporate or association funds to influence elections or legislation. Everyone should have an equal opportunity to have their voice heard.

4) Require all appointed judges, cabinet secretaries, and other officials to have significant experience and broad respect in the area for which they're being appointed to work on. No more appointing people that know little or nothing about what they're going to work on just because of political contributions or loyalty to a party or the president.

5) Take major steps to address climate change, while ensuring that workers negatively affected by those changes get help if they need it to retrain for other jobs.

6) Address inequality. Everyone should have an equal opportunity to succeed. Every child should be entitled to good education and everyone should be treated fairly in all aspects of life.

7) Ensure separation of church and state. People should be free to practice their chosen religion or no religion at all and laws should not favor one religion over another.

For the last three, I'll go with some of yours, but in a somewhat modified form.

8) Government revenues should be equal to expenses over a 5 year period. There might be times where a deficit is necessary for a year or two due to recession, pandemic, natural disaster or other extraordinary events, but that deficit amount must be repaid within a few years when times are better. During periods of prosperity, the government should collect a bit more than it spends to prepare for the inevitable crises that will come along. (No big tax cuts during boom times. That's totally irresponsible.)

9) All laws to be passed are only for one thing or a set of related things. So, for example, if a law is passed that costs a lot, it can also include cuts in other areas or increased taxes to offset that extra expense. No slipping in a bunch of stuff that wouldn't pass on its own in an unrelated bill.

10) The same "rules" (medical, retirement, taxes, etc.) for politicians as for citizens - which includes all citizens having access to affordable medical care.

There are other things that are important as well, but you asked for 10 so I'll stop here.

1. Flat 5%, or less, income tax.
2. Make abortion illegal. There are plenty of alternatives for birth control that we no longer need this barbaric practice.
3. Remove all restrictions on firearms; if you can afford a tank you can own a tank.
4. Term limits on Congress.
5. Prosecution of insider trading in government.
6. Cleaning up regulations. How can anyone follow the law if even lawyers struggle to understand half of it?
7. Remove welfare programs and instead encourage charities. Good governance gives 30 cents on the dollar to those who need it. Whereas charities are considered bad if they give 70 cents on the dollar.
8. Streamline legal immigration and enforce immigration laws. We shouldn't be rewarding illegal immigrants and punishing legal immigrants.
9. Veterans get the same medical care as Congress. They deserve the best and the only way to ensure that they get the best is to put them on the same system as Congress.
10. Legalize all drugs. Prohibition didn't work with alcohol and it hasn't worked with drugs. We even have the same problems. So we should cut our losses and treat those substances like alcohol and tobacco.

I doubt many people agree with me on half of that; but hey we're in a democratic republic. So advocate for the other side if you disagree with me. Plus I am not the President and even if I was I would struggle constantly to get that stuff accomplished. Congress is where things get done; if they could ever stop campaigning long enough.

I like your national debt idea, but what would you do about the current national debt, which amounts to around $100,000 for every man, woman, and child in the US? We can't even pay the interest on the debt much less pay it off. With the Covid fiasco I think it was necessary to keep the country moving, but the spending was badly managed and I'm not sure it helped at all in the end. But I agree, this spending has to end.

first, cut all Federal Government employees', esp Congressmen and Senators, salaries by half! Make it a job they want to do to "serve their country", not something they want to do to get rich.

#2 cut the extraneous Depts.. for instance, there are 30+ Dept of Education personnel that "decide" what Federal School Curriculum should be... We only need ONE person to do the admin work!!

#3 Change the tax rate to a flat 10% and no deductions. The coffers would be overflowing with money the folks that avoid paying taxes now would have to pay.

#4 Stop the Over Bidding/Cost projects for governmental projects. Remember $42 #2 pencils, $700 toilet seats, and General Dynamics underbidding FMC, etc to get a contract, then turning around and jacking the price up for "overruns, etc."?

The best movie on Accountability on the Federal Debt & Budget is Dave with Kevin Klein. He brings in an accountant and cuts useless/corrupt funding that Frank Langela has been using for himself and his cronies, all to save a Kids Program...

It wouldn't be hard to clear that debt... Look at the former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin... she had $zero debt for her state..

Sorry, this is a hot button for me since the stupid mayor of Boise, ID lied to get into office, and now is wanting to turn Boise into a Sanctuary City like San Fransisco CA... we are gun toting, conservatives here and dont even have any graffiti here, unless you go down to the skateboard park!!

The key to reducing the debt is having 100% of Congress agree to stop wasting money and instead work hard to reduce our debt... stop by handing out welfare money that the Democrats use to control the population in the inner city in places like Chicago, Detroit, Miami, etc...

Alaska is a bad example as they don't even have a state tax there and people actually get money every year from oil sales so of course that state is flowing with money. If they cut everyone's re-election then they wouldn't have all this BS we have now because someone is trying to get re-elected. Congress should be the same way as they are there for themselves, not to serve the people. You saw that when the stimulus bill came up and everyone was trying to get stuff for their own self interests, not for the people's. Are you really surprised about campaign promises not being fulfilled? Has Trump made America Great Again? 150 million people just rolled their eyes at that.

Forget if I was president, I'm voting for you!!!🙂 the only thing I'd add and don't hate me, but I'd bring back the death penalty for all states in the US... We need to stop pampering criminals and hold them more accountable and worry more about living conditions of good hard working struggling Americans and less about the living conditions of brutal murderers...
