This goes back more generations than we can count. And I do not expect most of middle class white America to understand this. Tbh, I didn’t always.
It is disproportionate. That is a fact. And it stems from years of learned racism. White isn’t a culture it is a privilege which has been historically used to repress black people. Thus creating the Black-American culture that exists today.
Someone I knew, went to school with, was NOT A BAD PERSON OR A CRIMINAL was shot and killed in his car in front of his girlfriend and young child for literally following instructions. THAT IS NOT OK. White Americans have the luxury of living in ignorant bliss and having an experience like I did having the police come to an icy road crash and not only not write me a ticket, but take me to my medical appointment. A black American in that situation would be having an anxiety attack and fearing for their life. That is why stickers like Police Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter and All Lives matter are racist.

White Americans, as a race, did not suffer years of oppression, abuse, mistreatment, and so much worse. Everyone already fucking knows white lives matter. We do not need a sign or bumper sticker for that.
Just as “start seeing motorcycles” calls attention to inattentive drivers disproportionately hitting motorcycles; “black lives matter” calls attention to the police disproportionately killing black Americans who posed no threat and getting away with it. @doopayo kindly provided some statistical evidence for this and I am going to credit her research below: “There have been several studies done and statistics consistently showing how black men are disproportionately killed by the police.
The probability of being black, unarmed and shot by police is about 3.5 times the probability of being white, unarmed and shot by police.
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0141854
44% of unarmed people killed by the 100 largest city police departments were Black. These police departments killed unarmed Black people at a rate 4 times higher than unarmed white people.
And Rates of violent crime in cities did not determine rates of killings by police. For example, Buffalo and Newark police departments had relatively low rates of police violence despite high crime rates while Spokane and Orlando had relatively low crime rates and high rates of police violence.”

Me again. :) To my Black American friends, please call me out if I have misrepresented anything here. I do not claim to have an intrinsic understanding, simply an understanding from the experiences black friends have shared with me.
I hope this has been enlightening for many of you, as it was for me.
