A few things I've changed my mind about

I have recently changed my mind about a few freedoms: marijuana and abortion.

On the topic of marijuana:

I don't condone the use of marijuana because it impairs judgement, coordination, our reactions, etc. (drugabuse.gov). Personally, I also dislike the smell. However, we are lucky in that we can dabble with other substances, i.e. OTC medications, alcohol, nicotine. Additionally, we have seen how politics works: our privileges are taken away--or very limited--and the authority figure or figures indulge in whatever privileges have been taken away from us. This might not necessarily be substances, of course. This could include other things such as A/C, clean water, warm water, meat products, etc. Which brings me to abortion.

On the topic of abortion:

Similarly, I don't exactly condone abortion. It undoes the conception of a baby and goes against my faith, as does abusing substances. However, abortion is another luxury we are lucky to have here in the States. As I said earlier, we have seen how political figures can be. King Louis and his wife, Marie Antoinette, enjoyed lavish parties with clergy and nobility while the citizens worked for little to no pay. Similarly, abortion can be thought of in the same way. What if we were not allowed to have abortions, but politicians were getting abortions left and right? What if we couldn't smoke pot, but politicians were doing so? Seems pretty unfair.

I'm not an activist nor do I intend to take action in regards to these two controversies, I just wanted to explain my point of view and how it has changed.

That's one thing they can't change. The right to change your mind and think and feel a way about certain topics. It's logical and normal to change based on new information or a better understanding of a particular topic. Emotion often gets in the way and clouds this ability at times. I don't suggest to void of emotion just don't allow it to block the ability to try and understand people's perspectives. A lot of money is spent on finding emotional triggers and hot buttons to manipulate people into making decisions that benefit those dollars. I use to look down at drug addicts and had no remorse for the negative things that happened to them. When I became addicted to the pain pills my Dr gave me after an accident I realized how big of a hypocrite I became. When you realize what your willing to do to not feel sick It's scary. Fortunately I was able to get clean but I'm mindful of how fast things can change and although I was blessed with resources that aren't as easily available to all I realize I'm no better than the people I didn't understand before. We don't all have to agree on topics and it's okay to get it wrong at times but we should continue to discuss them and attempt to at the very least understand eachother

Working for little pay really only affects those who love in pain centers who haven't the skills or the resources to be independent of the "beast system".
I personally find living with things like drugs or abortion is mostly about what your culture can bear. However, if you do have an abortion, it makes it very hard to leave that culture.
In reality, we take these rights from each other. Is not the elite exactly. They do not get their hands dirty. But they convince us to do these atrocities to each other. The elite should see themselves as being privileged and fortunate in my opinion, rather than an authority. That would be reserved for those who are truly wise.
Anyways, I personally agree with your stances on marijuana and abortion. I do dislike how they make markets and regulate or rights to do things like grow plants.

Who cares. You want to sanctimoniously deny CPTSD victims a little temporary alleviation of their pain. What does that make you? A sadist.
You want to deny women a right to control their own bodies. Please get your head and your business out of other people's bodies. Good take. I'd summarize it as live and learn. Seems like most peeps want to dig in on one side of an issue and yell louder & louder to prove how "right" they are.

Being open to change our views doesn't make us weak... means we realize our own limitations while valuing information and life experience.

At the end of the day no matter how much we dislike or disagree with something it's not our place to interfere in other's affairs. I'll never support or vote for a pro choice candidate simply because I refuse baby hand in such actions. Let that blood be on the heads if those who partook. As for weed it never had a good reason to not be completely legal. If you get hammered in the weekends but skoff at people who smoke weed you're about as dumb as they come. Good post

Good to see someone reevaluate on these exceptionally polarized issues. I too have never nor will I ever condone a positive attitude to general substance abuse. Medical use is one thing, but I will never accept a narrative that getting high is good for society at large. And while it is a more complicated issue, I generally oppose too liberal abortion principles.

I’ve been smoking weed since I was about 16 and I’m still a straight A student and I have no mental problems. I don’t even think that’s true but even if it is you would have to be smoking like pounds of weed a day for a long period of time for it to show some kind of long term affect
