As someone who's family is ultra machista (patriarchal), I have to disagree.
I consider my mother to be extremely smart. Though she never had a single day of education. Why? Because my grandparents told her, as a child, "it doesn't matter if you go to school. You'll only be as smart as a girl can be". She was like 5. She cried and begged bet they refused and sent my uncles (her brothers) off to school.
She would ask my uncles to teach her things. But they'd refuse and make fun of her. She is completely self taught read and write. She even taught herself basic math. When my uncles found her learning, they'd tell my grandparents and my grandparents would punish her and send her to do chores because that's "women's work".
She would sneak herself some books either way and learn in secrecy.
Now, she isn't going to be the next Einstein or Marie Curie, but I still think she's very smart.
Her parents taught her to only cook and clean. And to submit. My father was a terrible man, but sadly most men were like this in her village and surrounding areas. He'd abuse her constantly. Remember that he's a product of a society that values men and treats women as house decorations.
He wasn't like that from the beginning though. He gave her promises that if she went to the US with him and marry her, she'd finally have a chance to go to school.
Anyways, because she didn't have an education, she couldn't get good jobs. My dad was an alcoholic and constantly beat us and her. He'd take her money, cheat and was all around a terrible individual and worse husband and father.
My mother would ask for help from her family and they'd say "why is he cheating? What are you doing wrong?" She didn't have anywhere to turn to. We'd go from shelter to shelter trying to escape my dad.
Again, he's just a product of a society that teaches men to dominate and women to submit.
I'm gonna have to say no. Who knows how much lost potential there is because men for so long refused to let women be equal? Who knows how far could civilizations have advanced had we given literally half the population (women) the same chances we've given men?
Disagree.
And then it's funny how some Conservative Christians say that Islam is terrible for its treatment of women, and here you are.
Or men who are intimidated of feminism or how it seeks to "control" men, and yet here you are.
If a woman, or man chooses that life fine. But it shouldn't be predetermined because of their sex.
I never said stone women to death and I have never heard of women coal miners or steel workers
But you do realize that this mindset leads to such radicalism right? Sure, it can happen in a progressive society as well. But it's a lot propogate in an extremely conservative environment where they value men more than women.
*a lot easier
As it should be #quiverfull
Can't tell if trolling...
If you're truly Christian, you're misinterpreting the bible completely. The woman is supposed to look to the man for leadership as she does jesus christ and he in turn is supposed to regard her as he does the church. There is supposed to be love and respect in there buddy.
Regardless I don't believe in the bible and I don't believe in that
A lot of effort put into a trolling question just to try to get people's ire up..

It's I the bible thats why I submit myself to my husband's authority completely.
Agree, though in return the man should treat her as Christ treats the Church. It has to be a union rooted in love opposed to selfish acquisition via the abuse of authority. I don't buy into the egalitarian bullcrap of the Enlightenment and neither does God. Patriarchy is a part of human nature evident by the fact that virtually all societies across all parts of the world have been patriarchal at one point or another. Christianity does not deny nor try to change this, but rather transfigures it by giving it a purpose and likening it to something higher. It also grants ontological equality as partakers of the divine nature each made in the image and likeness of God; feminism and other egalitarian philosophies are essentially secular bastardizations of this concept. They replace the higher equality found only in Christ with a lesser, unrealistic concept of equality that is doomed from the start due to biology and evolution.
This guy is a self hating Hispanic and a misogynist lol no surprise there. If you hate your skin color why wouldn't you consider women inferior as well?
@serp777 I believe that the Church is God's agent on Earth as the pillar and ground of the truth. Everything I said is only that which can be affirmed by the writings of the Church Fathers and Saints like John Chrysostom, Gregory the Theologian, and Basil the Great. I would ask you the similar question of what makes you so militantly certain that your modern Enlightenment ideals are correct and for that matter that God would subscribe to them? Seems about as arrogant as Protestants who think the Church was incorrect until heretics like Martin Luther came along.
@BuchitaBuchys I hate my skin color simply because I don't buy into the victim complex that has been sold to minorities in this country by the same "progressives" on the Left who are poisoning us with abortion via Planned Parenthood? Speak for yourself. I'm just not an idiot like the majority of our own people unfortunately. Sure it is harder, but at least I can hold my head up high amidst my peers as a successful self made Hispanic who didn't need to rely on affirmative action or quotas to make it somewhere in the world.
I'm not surprised you feel this way.
@JRICHARDS1996 wow fail you presume to tell me what my values and ideals are when you don't know them. But how do you know the mind of God? Seriously? I don't claim to know the true morality whereas you do. Morality is entirely relative and difficult. No one is a moral authority and you especially aren't. Also did you affirm from the bible that you should stone adulterers, homosexuals, and anyone that works on the sabath? I bet you don't, and I bet you also don't condone slavery or any other mandates like that in the bible. You probably think God's genocide in Sodom was a moral action. And don't give me the crap about the new testament being your source of morality, you still follow the ten commandments and Jesus references the old testament FREQUENTLY. So don't cop out and say "OH THE NEW TESTAMENT IS MY BOOK"
Marriages have worked better with the woman doing her part and the man doing her part. But nowadays you get the "you have two hands do it yourself" attitude and the "I am independent". Sure women don't have to submit but men shouldn't have to spend money on dates since there is equality.
How do you know they "worked better"?
The divorce rates
Because that's how my parents were, other people were, and that's how it was back then. Sure it was not perfect and there was abuse and infidelity, but it still worked. That method works better in my opinion and the kid can see and interact with his family.
Here is an article with statistics:
www.theatlantic.com/.../
That too, the divorce rates are 50% where 69% of women initiate divorce. There is no benefit for a man to marry today.
It's only because now they CAN divorce with not as much negative stigma. Also, because now women can work for themselves, they don't need to stay and try to work it out like before.
The divorce rates are only numbers and they don't tell why they stayed married.
@BuchitaBuchys and look how well it's going as a result. No, the divorce rates are statistics based off of research they have done with people. by the way, for all we know the other 50% who are not divorced could be miserable, could be there because they are stuck financially, etc. Submit as in be a slave? No, but be a good wife and compel and clean and take care of the kids and laundry while the father provides with the income. With ANY situation, business, relationship it requires give and take. Communication is key. That's just reality and it works better rather than trying to be selfish and take.
"Sure it was not perfect and there was abuse and infidelity, but it still worked."
There is no love if someone cheats and has gotten hit (which I assumed your father abused your mother). Those would be my two absolute deal-breakers within a marriage.
And it doesn't work if the woman or man is not happy. No matter how much bible verses, laws or whatever. Some men like being house husbands. Some women like working. To say the man should provide and the women should clean and you're ignoring a lot of people. With 7 billion people, let's assume half are men and women equally. Even if the majority preferred a patriarchal system, let's say 99% of everyone agreed. That's still 1%, which translates to about 70million people who are forced to be unhappy.
I personally don't care if a woman chooses that life. But to assume it's "her place", it's just wrong and robbing the world of half of the creative minds.
@Vesuvius87 Nice personal attack lol. Ran out of logical material to debate with? Anyways my parents are still together. No divorce, no abuse, no drama. You shouldn't assume things in life. You should do your research first. That's your tip for daily life ^_^. I don't tolerate abuse from either gender. As for the cheating, one person may love the cheater, but the cheater doesn't love the other person.
@BuchitaBuchys We are not taking about a theoretical situation. You know what, theoretically everyone should be holding hands and singing kumbaya. It would be a perfect world, but that's not reality. I never said that she should do it. I suggested that it would be better. That's not ignoring people. For instance, lets say a research study has been done on the results of diet X and diet Y. Diet X has been a long known diet that had been more efficient and had helped people lose weight. Diet Y has also helped people lose weight, but not as many and its not as efficient as diet X. Which diet generally works better if you want to lose weight? Diet X is better. Sure some people will do diet y and some people may not do either. Suggesting that Diet X is better is not being ignorant. It's fact based off of research.

Two middle fingers in the air I say: try and make me submit, I double-dog dare ya, breh.
Sorry, but this sounds like the wishes of a male control freak or somebody over-religious. I don't agree at all, and never will. Men and women are all humans and all have the same rights.
The right to make their husband/father a sandwich?
A woman has the right to do whatever she pleases. She has the right to make a sandwich. She also has the right to eat it herself!
There needs to be a #1 in a relationship. Both should be equal in the sense that they have equal value and should be treated with equal respect. But, in every relationship there is a leader and a follower. It's naive to think otherwise. Whether that is the woman or the man depends on the two individuals.
That said, the fact is that the kind of men most women prefer are leaders... strong and dominant. So it's kind of silly to want those guys and then expect them to not be the leader.
Ummmm no, no.
Sure but you gotta clean the toilets.
I mean, girls don't fart or poop or pee and they are too ladylike to deal with poo in any way so as the male it's your job. You don't want people thinking you have a small penis for not cleaning the toilets... do you?
If she was a bad kid that was spoiled a lot and grew up to be wild,
then yeah, she should submit.
But if she was the good kid that got abused a lot,
and grew up to be obedient, then no, she's earned the right
to do what she wants when she wants.
Obviously it's a big fat NO and secondly I'm an atheist. What you gonna do? Force to go to church, force me to believe in imaginary beings?
See this why your a crazy cat lady
ok whatever troll
Truth hurts
you haven't got a damn clue what you're talking about.
yet ANOTHER confused person taking verses out of context smh lmao.
I don't understand how American Christians think they're so progressive. This is the same shit y'all get mad at Islam about.
Cwere mad at muslims because they want to park jumbo jets into skyscrapers
Who happen to be middle eastern muslims
That makes no sense
There is a fundamental difference between American Christians and Islam.
90% of American Christians no longer agree and/or practice Paul's "wisdom" about women. Just like 100% of American Christians no longer believe it necessary to kill someone for mixing wools and linens, nor do they practice stoning adulterers to death, and so on. I don't agree with American Christians, and I am aware that when Islam first appeared, it was VERY progressive in its attitudes about women. However, Islam has been the tortoise that lost the race in regards to its attitudes towards women. Christianity has progressed far too slower than I'd like, but it has left Islam in the dust by comparison as far as its attitudes towards women.
@Bluemax no. Mainstream Islam is very progressive. People think that mainstream Islam is what is practiced in Saudi Arabia, and that is just not true. In Saudi, Wahabbism is the main practice, which is an extremist regime. A better example of a secular country with a mainstream Muslim majority is Morocco.
There is nowhere in the Qu'ran that states women must be veiled and submissive to their husbands and fathers. Or at least, no more than what is stated in the Bible or the Tanakh. Only fundamentalist sects believe that for both Christianity and Judaism. You look at some of the things that Mormons or Baptists say and it's not all that different from an extremist Islamist sect, and on the whole Mormons aren't even that bad.
I know mainstream Islam is generally no more oppressive to women than their Christian or Jewish counterparts. I've read the Koran. However, I believe radical Islam is practiced among a higher percentage of Muslims than radical Christianity is practiced as a percentage of Christians. That's why I maintain that the Jewish and Christian world has left Islam in the dust in terms of their attitudes towards women.
I don't care what is said in their sacred books (as I mentioned, in the Bible there are PLENTY of things to which I think are immoral if practiced, like executing disobedient children). I only care how that religion is practiced TODAY. If I were a soul waiting to be born into a female body and had a choice between two families and I knew only this; one of Christian, the other is Muslim, I would choose the Christian family. Do I believe this would guarantee my advancement? Absolutely not. Do I think this offers a greater chance to advance. Yes.
Saudi Arabia is not by any means the only country that practices a brand of Islam which I (and probably you) don't find progressive. The nurse who cared for me last Christmas explained she was arrested in post-revolutionary Islam. Her crime? Her bangs were showing. Besides that, even in countries that don't have national laws regarding dress codes based on their perceptions of Islam, there are many local ordnances that restrict the dress of women. Places in Pakistan have them.
Besides national laws and local laws, many individual Muslim families practice things I consider totally unacceptable, that includes right here in the United States. Christians families also have practices I consider totally unacceptable in the U. S., but it's been my experience this occurs in a MUCH lower percentage.
@Bluemax respectfully, sir, I disagree. Less than 1% of Muslims are radicalized. It's probably about the same proportion of any religion. There's a roving pack of Buddhists executing (and beheading) people in Asia - are we going to call all Buddhists evil? Judging a religion by its radical fundamentalists is just plain ignorant.
I'm not sure where you got that less than 1% figure. And how do they define radicalized? Different people have different definitions of what is radicalized. Did they include the Muslims who believe in female genital mutilation in that figure? Do they include the Muslims who believe women shouldn't show their faces? Did they come up with a questionnaire and say if you answer "yes" to a certain number of questions, or one of them, then you're considered "radicalized?"
Let me ask you, if you were a female soul waiting to be born, and you had the choice between two families and knew only the following: one is American Christian (American was your distinction), and a Muslim family, which would you choose?
I'm not judging an entire religion based on a minority. However, when a minority gets to be a significant number, like the significant number of Muslims who believe that no woman should go beyond grade school, no woman should show her face except to relatives, etc...
There should have been a third option: Depends what submission means!
Do as your told
No if submission means tolerating domestic abuse or cheating from the husband then I can't submit. But if it means respecting the husband and letting him take the lead then it is ok with me.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Good joke buddy. Now get back to your basement, your mom's calling.
You're joking. Firstly, my father is a piece of shit and secondly, I wouldn't marry a man who even had the notion of me "submitting". We are equals.
See you need to be taught respect
I have respect... for myself. Anyone else who wants it has to earn it
24% of voters deserve to be transported back to the Middle Ages where their mindset belongs.
Yes and no. A man should also submit himself to his wife.
Terrible answer
What makes you such an expert?
true!
Are the pics I posted supposed to influence our answers? Just asking.
And i support obeying both parents and obeying thé husband in good matters. i feel that every team needs a leader, the husband needs some respect and appreciation for feeding and protecting his family.
Right on
that question is a REALLY BIASED ONE!!! whatever is mentioned above is sexist >:( >:(
Hahahahaha
Hahahahaha
Not a snow ball chance in hell I would submit to any man LOL. I was the dominant one when I was married.
Yeah *was
Disagree, that's just a religious crap promoted by patriarchal chauvinists, conservatives and misogynists.
Nope, I just respect women, unlike you.
Obvious troll is obvious.
Fuck ALLLLLLLL of that
Hail satan.
Like really why should woman summit?
Because its her place to!!
I can't believe a female agrees with it.
