I never even said that I believe a 50-50 relationship is possible. The idea of a 50-50 relationship can never work. In any relationship the strongest personality ends up in charge. As soon as the two people can not agree on something, the relationship stops being equal and it turns into a battle of wills. This is why two dominate people will fight like cats and dogs in a relationship as they battle for power.

A relationship does not need to be 50-50 in order to be successful. What is important is finding a good match. A lot of people don't want the power, and would rather have a dominate partner making the decisions. In many cases the person with less power, may even be happier than the person with most of the power.

I think it is unfortunate that our society (not women) has told us that marrage is the only correct path in life and again society ( not women ) enforce that women are to be pursued and then cared for while men are to be the persuers and care for the women. Many societal pressures are unfortunate and I'm glad to see things are changing even if it's slow.

I think that prior to modern times it was more about a partnership even if the expected gender roles were more fixed and traditional--hence I have no problem with being the provider and truly taking care of a wife who I'd cherish--but I think in modern times that more people, both men and women, have become more concerned with their own self interest opposed to fairness and partnership.
