Roommates: same-sex or opposite sex... which do you prefer?

Do you prefer to live with a roommate (not live-in girlfriend/boyfriend, wife/husband, or fwb) of the same sex or opposite? Why? What are the things that you appreciate about living with the gender of your preference, or the things that peeve you about the other?

I understand that a lot of what makes or breaks a living situation has nothing to do with gender... but if anyone has had many different roommate experiences and has a general preference, let's hear it!

I like living with guy roommates better than girl roommates and I've lived in both situations. With all guys it was more fun and laid back. With mixed genders things tend be more tense for some reason and sexual tension can build between roommates. With the girl roommates they don't like the same posters and worry about things like matching furniture. Guys just throw stuff together and make it work while the girls complain.

i think opposite would be cool because I only hang with the guys and I live with my dad so I never really hanged around the house with a chick around my age but would have a guy roommate if he's cool and not a d*** or one of my friends so I wouldn't care much

For right now and the age that I'm at, I'd prefer to have a female roommate.

well I'm about to go to collage and well my roommate is my best friend who is male but after that I would like a girl roommate just because never had that girl hang day to day bases with its just dudes I would like to now what its like living with a female because I never had a sister or a brother but I spend the night at his house and he does the same all the time so I think the best way to have that is a girl roommate you know as long as she's cool she can be a bra among bro's

im not in college nor do I live in an apartment but id rather have a girl roomate it'd be nice to be able to have a girl to live with me even if no sex/relationship it'd be nice to have a girl to talk to and hang out with instead sitting at home all alone it'd be pretty cool if she smoked weed but I gotta wait till I go to amsterdam for that rare breed of woman >.>
