Would you marry a teacher?

I'd rather do what I love and simplify my lifestyle so my definition of enough was very basic, than choose a well paying profession that I may be qualified for but had no interest in. As a result I would respect, and even admire my life partner if they made a similar decision. Plus, I value education and intelligence so the fact that you do too would cement my decision to stay. My mom's a teacher, so growing up I learned a lot about budgeting, thriftiness, and self sufficiency which is invaluable because I have a lot of real life skills to fall back on that many of my peers are currently struggling with. As a result, I think having a lifestyle where you have to be a bit creative and money isn't the be all end all can actually be a very positive thing.
I see not one thing wrong with marrying a man that makes a lower income at all! As long as you love that person, know they are following their passion and that at times money may be strapped all is good. If the person is truly in love with you, then money doesn't matter. As for the nice cars and all that you are meeting the wrong girls. I don't care about the cars just the roof over my head and the loving arms to take care of me! Good luck the world needs more dedicated teachers!
haha, speaking of roof over your head, I used to roof houses. and believe it or not, if I actually stuck to that business and created my own roofing company, I'd be making 3 times as much as a teacher. but yeah, I guess having a handyman around can't be too bad. (and no I'm not a mexican) for whoever reads this and thinks only mexicans roof houses.
Of course I would, guys always think that they need to make a tonn of money to make me happy. But that's not the case at all, truth is I'd be just fine with marrying someone with a normal job.
I think teachers make a little more though than 30k a year? just saying.
That maybe true where you are from, but where I am from, in one of the worst economical states in the country, 30k is about where its at, and 30k is also considered middle class, where other states that's considered low class.
if its middle class then that's good, middle class is perfectly fine for me. I don't need a bmw to be happy Lol.
hahah, you may not need a bmw to be happy, but you probably would be extremely happy if you had a bmw
Idk, the way I see it, if the girl I marry has a job as well. the household income would be enough. I know how to manage my money so its good. Just like my mom making less than 15k and raising 5 kids. so I'm sure if I had 30k Id be okay. hahah
yess managing your money is extremely important. and yeah id be happy if I had one, but I could be just as happy with a honda. You don't have to be a heart surgeon or a lawyer to make me happy.
and I have my own job too.
Do you have any idea what you want to do for a job? And I would love for my wife to have a job as well
Yes, currently a hair stylist. One day I wanna open up my own salon or spa.
Ambition is such a sexy thing in an individual.
Honestly, I think we need to really pay our teachers more and our administrators less. Here in New York our superintendents (and there are like a hundred of them across the state) are paid over $200,000 a year with the highest being paid $671,000 or so. That's OBSCENE. No one needs that much money, especially since it's tax payer money. We don't need that many superintendents (they hardly do that much work in the first god damn place) and they don't need to be paid so much, at most $100,000 and even then I'm skeptical of that.
But ya, I'm sure there are plenty of gold digging shallow bitches/assholes out there who only care about money made, but I'm sure there are even more who don't.
You know I would love to be a math teacher as well but when I was making my decision my sisters told me "girls don't want a guy who makes that little money" so now I'm in school to become a civil engineer, its not horrible but I am satisfied that I will be making enough to have my parents retire and have some left over but I am also wondering if after I become civil engineer iA wether or not I should go back to school to become a math teacher and if possible I would LOVE to build my own school so then kids could learn anytime they wanted to :)
ahh, yeah I had my major as a drafting and design major, but changed that real quick after 1 year. It brings in a lot of money, but I'd rather do something I enjoy doing than something that makes me a lot of money. I know every persons situation is different and depending on how high up you go, but my uncle brings in the big bucks, he's a ceo for some company, and in a way he's got the life, traveling abroad for company business and a lot other things, but the downside is he never sees his family.
Yeah do what you gotta do man!
I also wanna be a math teacher because I want to help make math a non-taboo subject anymore like its just like any other subject where you have to study in order to get the grades and I feel the education system in america is going down hill :/
oh I know man, The thing that frustrated me the most teachers in urban areas truly just give up on their students, and have no hope for them to go post-secondary, or even graduate high school. They don't treat them as individuals but lump them together as one, because of the society they are brought up in. So they give them watered-down curriculum, or grade them easily, just so they don't have to "deal" with them, and just so they'll pass on through high school. And students see this
so they don't try, or become apathetic. Its a very sad self-fulfilling prophecy
Yeah but you also have to look at it from the teachers perspective
Like those kids aren't exactly easy to deal with so I would like to think they (the teachers) have tried their best to get the kids in the zone then just handed out grades
Another thing, I think as you go up grades are also handed out to you
Because when I was in high school I took History II AP and no matter what grade you got the teacher would pass you, this isn't just true for high school
but my friend who went to Brown University said after you get accepted the teachers don't really care anymore and just hand out grades and even if you do get bad grades they don't kick you out, they just say you'll do better next time, you've gotten this far I'm sure you'll pick up your grades next semester. So one can only guess that this happens at all the Ivy Leagues =/
This no child left behind act is more like "Leave no child left behind but drag all the others who are excelling back"
Exactly, I completely agree. There's a reason why C is considered average. Its because the smart ones get A's and the not so smart ones get F's/E's depending on the teacher. and that averages out to be a C. I will have no problem with failing kids if they don't turn in homework, or don't do well on test. Now it will be my job to make sure these kids get the best possible grade they can get. But if I work my ass of to help them out, and they still fail. I'm not going to pass them, because honestly
what does that teach them? That in the real life they can do a poor job and still be rewarded with passing by. In real life, if your boss finds out you aren't doing your job, you'll get fired on the spot. I personally think todays society needs more teachers that are not just willing to work with the kids and help them pass, but are also not afraid of failing the kids if they don't get the grade. Make them retake the class, I'm not their daddy I'm their teacher.
yeah and then sometimes you have to deal with the kids parents who thinks their kid is God's gift to the world when they can't even find their way out of the school let alone the world
I think America's priorities are totally messed up we're here glamorizing the situation while we're creating more and more of them
Did you know that India has more honor's kids then America has kids? That's freaking ridiculous!
I think America should let our entertainment business go and focus on the education system
I find it ironic that the situation got paid $2 million dollars to get drunk and have sex with girls while a teacher (who actually teaches) gets paid $40,000 for being an asset to society.
btw if you want the highest paying teaching job
it's either in CT or CA and third is NY so hopefully you live around there!
In NJ there aren't any jobs!
Nope, I live closer to NY than Cali, but its like in the middle of it. Not sure about right now, but my state had the highest unemployment rate in the entire nation. So looks like once I get my degree I'm moving! hahah
and yeah that's so messed up, teachers, police officers, and other professions that actually do something for this society gets sh*tty money, COMPARED to other professions that are just for pleasing people, like the situation as you stated.

i'm going to be a teacher as well and I think I would want to marry another teacher, that way we'd have the same values and want the same out of life, not to mention the same work scheduals.
That would be ideal, and at the same school. At first I'm going to start off as an elementary teacher, but try and move to the HS.. (unless I end up enjoying elementary too much)what about you?
i was planning middle school english but now I'm leaning more towards kindergarten or preschool
Well I'm currently dating someone who makes under 30 thousand a year. Money means nothing to me. its the person. and I like a challenge... living on a tight budget is a game I'm well versed in :)
:) I see you are from California, my friend and I have been arguing about this, and we both found two different sources with two different answers. What is the minimum wage in Cali?
I believe its 8 bucks an hour... possibly 25 cents more or less.
haha okay, that's what I thought, my friend was trying to tell me it was 12 something an hour.
definitely! you have goals and dreams for your future. that is wayyy more attractive than any high paying job. a man's salary makes no difference to me as long as he has some source of income and would be able to support a family. :)
i think anybody would be lucky to marry a guy like you. I don't care what kind of money the guy brings in, as long as he is nice to me, he values education and loves me. so yes, definitely, I would marry a guy like you if we did belong together.
