Well, I was going to say "I'm surprised Louisiana isn't last" but hey, we're 1 point away from mississippi, and heh, .2 away from california, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Now that is truly funny. Not too long ago I would have expected Cali to be 1st or 2nd, like a decade or two. Pride cometh before the fall.

Having said that I expect it to be like any Louisiana Mississippi competition on who's "not the worst" brag we're not as bad as Mississippi... then they get their shit together and beat us lol

Well to be fair, MIT is where all the smartest people go for school so I think that should be factored in. I think things like that can give an advantage. Also illegal immigration will have an impact (as they are obviously not the most intellectually driven/educated as those come here legally).

The northeast invests heavily in education, and higher IQ people may move there at a higher rate per capita.

The south is known to suffer a “brain drain”, as in higher IQ people from the south are more likely to emigrate out of the region, skewing the numbers.

Harvard and MIT undoubtedly help skew Massachusetts numbers. And the total range from top to bottom is less than 11 points. But I would be interested in looking at the methodology. I haven't taken an IQ test since GATE in 7th grade, That was half my lifetime ago.

Not surprised. Mississippi is mostly a rural area state, so people there tend to be much less critical thinkers and perfer a happy go lucky lifestyle compare to Massachusetts where education and complex thinking is encouraged.

The map makes sense. As people age their IQ will diminish slightly. Older people in the US retire in the southern states. So this is likely a heat map of average age per state to a degree.
