Which i believe is very true, People being offended by words they find online shows how weak some people are. I mean there is a twitter user that claims that she got PTSD from twitter.. That is beyond pathetic.

I agree. Offence is taken not given. Free speech is under huge attack by fascistic mindsets and sources who are afraid of the truth or at the very least dont want a different opinion. As David Icke said (paraphrasing) "you have the right to your opinion and i have the right to disagree with you".
Ty ❤️
A lot of people need to develop a thicker skin, but I also don't think it's appropriate to go out of your way to try and offend people. Censoring language is the first step toward censoring thoughts and thereby controlling people. I'm firmly against that.

I see your point but some people do say things just to hurt you. Ask me if they have a right to say those things and I say yes. Ask me is it bad and I would answer yes. Ask me if we should trade some of that freedom and my answer is a hardcore no.
Absolutely agree with you on this.
Pretty stupid. If someone says "You're an asshole" it's given.
But it should be legal because inoffensive speech doesn't need to be protected.
im not offended if someone calls me an asshole though.
But it was given. 😀
Pretty much, onus is not on the individual not to offend but for us not to get offended. Its not to say people don't say offensive things. Not to mention what is offensive can be debatable. Regardless of the severity of offense you can not in anyway prevent someone from expressing what they desire just so someone finds it offensive.
Just don't take offense problem solved.
I do agree that sometimes people get offended by petty things.
But also freedom of speech also includes accountability. Just because you are free to say something doesn't mean that it's an appropriate thing to say. With freedom and power comes responsibility.
If you're saying something, you have to be accountable for the effect it has.
Obviously people do try to offend on purpose.
Still, it seems reasonable that if you don't want to hear it, you're free to not listen. This isn't a case of yelling "fire" in a crowded auditorium or even screaming in someone's ear.
Taking to the extreme it could be considered harassment, but just speaking your mind shouldn't be stopped.
A lot of People don’t understand what freedom actually means. Yes you have the freedom to say whatever you want, however you will suffer the consequences of your words.
True.. I just dont believe there should be legal consequences for words. Its a direct violation of the first amendment to create laws regulating speech.
Yeah that's true you can only be offended yourself, but that doesn't mean someone can't openly belittle you what you believe in, and your morals.
Surely some people purposefully try to offend so how is this quote true?
because being offended by something that is said, or something that is written is a choice. you choose to be offended by something, not the other way around. Hence the reality that offense can never be given.
To say that it is not a choice is to admit that one is not in control of one's own emotions, and can't logically step back and think.
I agree that offense is taken and you can choose whether to be offended or now. However, I don’t agree with this quote because some people say stuff with malicious intent to offend.
Thats the point though, regardless of the intent of the writer, the onus is on the reader, words are just words, they have now power until emotion is applied. Its why i am against censorship of any kind.
Are you saying that you have never in your life been offended? From what you’ve just said, if you have just once, you are not in control of your emotions and you are illogical. Some emotions can’t be controlled. Do you stop yourself from internally being upset when someone dies? I hope not
I am never offended by what someone says, again words have no power, i am frequently offended by someones actions.. thats an apples to oranges comparison. the question is only and specifically about words, nothing else, not actions, not events, just words, that is it...
your comment conflates actions with spoke and written words. The question is not about actions nor is it about events, like death, nor is it about violence, nor is it about anything else. Just words, i suggest you dont muddy the question and stay focused.
I’m not. I was using the death example to show that emotions can’t alway be controlled. Therefore, it can’t always be the person who is offended’s fault if they are offended. Often but not always 🙄
Death and words are an apples to oranges comparison though thats why it needs to stay limited to words, Saying a person can't control their emotions over something they read is saying that they let their emotions rule them which is a bad thing.
Not really but okay
And the inability to control ones emotions is a copout, it is absolutely on the person who loses control, it is absolutely their fault. to use your own comparison the recent riots according to your logic are not the fault of the rioters, they are the fault of the home owners and shop keepers, because its not their fault they cannot control their anger. Or take the police officer that was shot in the back of the head in Las Vegas. Its his fault according to your logic not the fault of the shooter because the shooter isn't responsible for his own feelings and actions.
Your logic takes away personal responsibility and personal agency. which is incredibly dangerous.
Or to make it more personal, I am the victim of extreme domestic violence, i have scars on my face from an ex slicing it up because i kicked her out. According to your logic, its my fault because she couldnt control her emotions.
I don’t mean this in a rude way but I’m not reading that. I know you are stuck in your ways and I know I’m right so there is no point in arguing. Let’s agree to disagree
good enough
This may be true for some, but in my opinion during the Sarajevo Offensive (August-September 1995) it was very clear we gave the enemy no choice. Just my opinion tho
how doare you, you made me have to research something... Jk i did research but i like learning... I see what you mean, but i meant offensive words statements or conversations.
Words and statements are useful for making your point, but the M-87 Orkan medium artillery is even more useful
So true...
