Braids in general go back to Africa 3500 B. C... But the type she is talking about are Box Braids which is credited to Ancient Kemet 3100BC.
For a better understanding it is important to note Kemet once conquered by the greeks becomes Egypt. So Box Braids is credited to the people of Kemet. But I don't blame you for not knowing that since schools often don't mention Kemet and that all of Kemet's contributions to the world get mis-credited to Europeans.
