It might be true, but ironically, I believe that the genders in this analogy should be switched. It could also be compared to shopping when referring to men as well, considering that men technically "shop around" for attractive women to approach, be it in person or dating apps. Afterwards, they still conduct a "job interview" to determine whether or not the woman would make a quality girlfriend. This is especially true for men that typically ask women "what do you bring to the table." In fact, I would say that the shopping analogy for women makes less sense because it's typically the men that approach women. Women simply respond to being approached. I've never been to a store where the items approach the customers.
I would say, for women, the job interview part makes more sense because she has to determine whether or not the man truly wants her for who she is or wants to use her for sex. Job interview is actually a much better analogy than shopping in general. Men are the job seekers and women are the companies with "help wanted" signs on their windows. Men fill out their applications by approaching and if it goes well, they get their "interviews" by dating. If the interviews go well, then they have a "career," or relationship. The more skilled, qualified men are more likely to get the career, whereas the unskilled and/or lazy workers become umemployed, or incels. Those that complain about having to work tend to become MGTOW.

The problem lies in the fact that too many men mainly consider approaching women that are far out of their league. In that instance, men have a few choices: They could work on improving themselves and do what they can to become above average and get more sexual opportunities with the women they like the most, approach more women that are below average just like them, or they can completely give up on women and complain about why they don't get chosen. The point that I'M trying to make is that the main reason men aren't getting the attention that they want is because they're constantly attempting to go for women that are above average when they're below average themselves. Simply put, women choose the man that is best option for them, just as men search for women they think are the best option. Above average women have all sorts of men that want and approach them, but most likely, they're going to pick the most attractive men because they have access to them. However, you have plenty of women out there that aren't as attractive that rarely get approached by men. Based on the impression and assumption I get, yes, I mean it just seems like guys have to do everything to win a girl over, only to risk potentially getting rejected over some dumb reason that's not even a deal-breaker.
I think that's a con of being expected to approach though and I think it's important to understand that if the roles were reversed and we had a ton of girls approach us, we'd want the best of the best too, but at the same time, as weird and pathetic as this may come across, I think if people feel like their standards are hard to find, they shouldn't they settle for what's good enough, because this is the way I look at it:
1 - Standards = mandatory requirements that you can't compromise on
2 - Deal breakers = stuff that you can't compromise on
3 - Preferences = stuff that's ideal, but not mandatory
In terms of what's deemed as good enough, based on the definitions above, standards and deal breakers are the ONLY requirements, whilst preferences are just a bonus.
The impression I get, is that people fail to distinguish preferences from their standards and will act as if a preference is now mandatory, in which case, it's not longer a preference, it's a standard, so what I'd say, is distinguish the two and focus on the stuff you actually consider to be a requirement, not just be extra petty and expect perfection.
Looking at it from a general perspective where we all know that women have it much easier in dating compared to men, I can say it's a true statement.
Online dating especially is like a shopping window for women. Even the most basic girls (including below average) actually manage to get a ton of matches because there is so much desperation from the men's side. While men generally complain to barely get even a single match. It's common sense that men have to work to get relationships or even sex while a woman can only point the finger and she will get it. Often, the reason why women are single is because the men they truly want don't want them. So they think nobody likes them while ignoring all the DMs from all the nice guys trying to get with them (but she doesn't want them).

I'm just gonna go ahead and add to this comment and say that anyone who treats dating like shopping or a job interview shouldn't be dating at all. It should be a fun and relaxing time where you get to know someone, whether that leads to something or not. Everyone should stop objectifying the person across the table and focus on making a genuine connection instead. Maybe y'all will have better "luck" in dating then.
I think the point of the statement is that more often, women get to choose from many options where men have to prove themselves worthy. I think thos is generally true for men looking for a genuine relationship, no for men just looking to get laid. That is my interpretation anyway.

Depends on what you're using. There's no point in denying that most women do not get approached and chased by at least one guy on average, because you'd be lying if you denied that. Say if you're looking at it from a digital perspective, dating apps are quite poisonous, you should avoid them at all costs and avoid women who use them likewise, as these are the types of people who look for hook ups generally and nothing else particularly if they're in their late teens to mid-late 20s. And yes young women in general can get all the validation, attention and emotions they need from the dozens, even hundreds of matches from random guys. This novelty does wear off as women tend to get older though. A guy generally has to sell himself to a girl, however a high value man will always keep a woman in check and make her also sell herself to him. If she disrespects him, takes him for granted, is polygamous, or whatever, then to a high value man that woman has failed the 'interview' and he cuts her out of his life for good.

If you're out for a one night stand, then the statement is correct. That's not dating. Dating implies looking for some type of longer term interaction/commitment. The statement made is that of insecurity. For the guys it is in the feeling of constantly competing against every other guy out there. For the women it is the need to be in control, both in picking out the guy she wants based solely on first perception and then being the one who has to get to know the guy. None of this way of doing things is going to lead to anything lasting.

They won't ask spectic details, but they have reasons for nearly all their answers. They will also ask about your car and hobbies. For the guy, it sounds like fun questions, but she is definitely sizing you up.
I have to disagree, you don't necessarily get as far as the job interview as a guy so it would be more like applying for work, except that no employers are likely to give you bad feedback or long term consequences if you don't get the job. Women usually do have a shopping list but they still have to find the product they want, which usually are a impossible task, since they are looking for unicorns and not men, because they don't understand how men work and that their wishlist can't be applied on them. So it's not as easy as shopping.

When it comes to dating yes, this is true. And I say this as a feminist. It is not hard to ignore that overall men are the ones usually approaching others first even in this age. Some studies even point that there are about 7 guys for every one girl (or something like that). But when it comes to sex, most guys tend to treat it like shopping- all it takes is ordering a call girl, going to a bar/club, or whatever other place that men and women are looking for hook ups.

Also come to think of it, I was wrong in stating this was the case about men finding dating to be like a job interview. That's a very bleak, black and white thing to say and there is more to it than just gender. For instance- some women who are less than what most consider "average" (in other words, ugly), often find dating to be incredibly depressing and call it a job. And there are men graced with looks and money to match that treat dating like shopping because they have so many options to choose from. There are also many people who don't begin to date until they are in their 30s (for various reasons) so to be so fixated on dating being like interviews probably means you are aren't with the right people for you.

People are headaches, I get that, but you can't expect to land on a good partner if you aren't even willing to risk getting hurt. But ugly or average guys have a much tougher time dating than average or ugly women. Also women are judged for their height much less than women.

I disagree, that’s a narrow perspective. Everyone’s experience is different. Looking through your perspective, women only spend what they have. They invest in what they think will have the best outcome for their future. Women don’t go “shopping” for men, they simply have more judgement and preference when it comes to choosing a partner.
I think its like a job interview for either sex. I guess multiple dates with different people could be compared to shopping too
