I think they are so laughable it's hilarious.
What do you think about scientific people who think they know all the truth?
I think they are so laughable it's hilarious.
Its a good question , and I think people need to understand academic funding , UK is similar to Aust , not sure how it works in USA , but probably similar. These professors , virologists , Micro biologists etc , are usually publicly funded , basically for life , hence to remain relevant they want their voice / head on TV or radio / online etc , its their moment in the Sun.
Now , Im an undergraduate in Biology ( not completed degree ) , Im not saying Im an expert , BUT , everything I've learnt has been simply " thrown out the window " with procedure with regard to CV. When the initial news broke , I thought oh yeah okey Sarz 2 , it won't be too much of a problem , and it wouldn't have been had we all been smart , followed Sweden and let it run its course , remember first I heard of " lockdown " my initial thought was , that won't work , it will mutate and you'll get all these more powerful strains ( What happened? ) , then they said masks? , Look I hate masks , but I thought non mandatory , that should be okey , then they say " Mandatory " , I have a problem with that , dont think thats a good idea. Then they said Children can't carry , I thought " Yes they can " , great carriers. All this stuff sounds simple enough right? Its just logical , then you have some professor on radio and he/ she is saying near opposite? So how can you take them seriously?
For those who dont know , in Australia , these same people bought you the Cane Toad? ( use google.. lol ) and at one point they bought you falidimyde ( spelling , birth defects and death ) .
Also , I know a number of doctors , and other academics who completely disagree , and agree with me Sweden / Sweden / Sweden , you need exposure etc. These people are allowed no voice and often banned from discussion.
My daughter is very well educated , majored in Micro biology , and she also agrees with me. So if we all agree on one thing , Science is NEVER exact , its not. So how can such well trained individuals be so sure? I leave you to think about that :)
I think these people are very limited by hive thought even if they are scientists and work a field. The limitation is accepting that there are media beyond those discovered or that humans are capable of discovering. So, while the scientific process is based on observation of predictions/theories, that doesn’t necessarily mean that just because we haven’t thought about looking for it or haven’t been able to observe it, it doesn’t exist. Most of these “geniuses” tend to be insecure types that hide behind their “science” to believe they are smarter than everyone else is. And, they will also tell you they have a high IQ but haven’t a lick of common sense—not sure they even know what that is.
A few things to know about science and scientists:
1) Scientists are NOT independent, they need external funding and will usually say whatever their clients believe in.
2) It doesn't matter what the research says but who pays for it. For every research paper that is published there could be 10x contradicting ones that ends up locked in a drawer.
3) Science is so broad and advances faster than university curricula so unless you are a specialist in a particular field, you're little better equiped to critically assess a particular research than a bright high school graduate.
4) Most discoveries are made for private companies and are secret. Private companies can pay better than the chance of a Nobel prize. Academia means little today. They care more about keeping their positions and are poorly funded. Being funded from outside means they are not independent and private companies don't always like it because they can't assure their research outcome will remain their property (secret).
5) Just because media talks about one thing and dismisses the other doesn't mean that it's more important or that it happens more commonly. Media's job is to sell you their view of the world even if it has nothing to do with reality. Even if it's promoting people who don't know what they're talking about and burries true experts.
6) Science is not a religion!!! But it is becoming one because people are not aware of the above. Saying "science proves/scientists say" usually ends all discussion.
+ scientists, not always but usually are people who are 1) smart yes, but 2) socially not smart and awkward. They cannot fight the system they're in. If they don't get publicity, they won't be able to create a yt channel and talk about what the media is trying to cover up. Also, look point 1).
Yes, I am also a scientist.
I think they are most often full of shit. Listen to your common sense and what your gut is telling you, and don't listen to these "experts."
The EXPERTS told us it would take five years to create a safe vaccine, but it only took a matter of months.
So now when you have people who are worried about this rushed vaccine, they are demonized about it. So when it comes to "following the science", should we just put our finger into the wind and listen to whichever science is blowing that day?

Some people know a lot of stuff… That obviously intimidates you... Get over it cupcake. There will always be someone that knows more than you. Laughing when you don’t know the answer isn’t cute… People that know a lot of stuff generally don’t think they know everything, they are talking on their normal level. You may think they are acting like a know it all, but they probably think they are attempting to simplify things in laymen terms so that you understand what the hell they are talking about. They omit a lot, because it is extraneous to people that are not knowledgeable in a particular area. Sometimes they will even layer conversations to build you up to speed over time so that you will be able to eventually understand them without telling you. You should see how scientists and engineers talk to each other. It would make your head spin.
Some scientists are laughable. I read Dawkins when I need to have a real laugh.
The best scientific minds of the last thousand years have been men and women who tempered their scientific curiosity with a deep Faith, understanding that however much they discovered there was always going to be more than they could unearth in their lifetime.
Hard line "atheists" (scrutiny always shows them to be at most agnostics) always claim to have all the "facts", while the Truth evades them.
We all know so little to claim anything to be true. Well, almost, not talking about scientific research, but stating that you are "right" while answering life questions. We are but dust and shadow and cannot say that we are the bringers of all objective truth, thus we cannot force our minds upon others or even be toxic and not respectful when it comes to other people's opinions.
If they just tell you about the things they discovered and want to consult them with you and further research them, there is nothing wrong with it, isn't there?
Science isn't flawless.
A lot get disproved.
Some isn't really science.
Science ideology is strong and make some narrow minded instead of being critical and realistic ( this one have put a lot of brakes on development in the past to precedent time )
Personal do I only take that kind of individuals with a pinch of salt due to their attitude.
They usually misinterpret what they read or doesn't really understand what they have read or say. even adopt thing's without being critical and think for themselves.
I mean imagine studying a subject for 10s of years and literally devoting your life to reading papers and think critically and someone who does a Facebook search thinks they know better. I don't think scientists claim to know the truth, but they do know better than most people and have better capacity on judging a subject than other people. Scientists are very disrespected these days and it's really bad for progress.
I just told you I met such people
Just because you are an expert in one subject doesn't mean you know anything about anything else.
And even then, there are crappy people who studied their subject and don't know it properly.
Then you have bias, which you can't avoid and it's easy to say I am right because I read this because you have a bias
Generally, well educated people know more than uneducated people in a wide range of subjects. If by "scientific people" you mean scientists, then in their chosen field obviously they know more than you do and probably know more than you in general areas of science. I am curious what your level of education is. I have found that most people who disparage educated people have never acquired an education themselves.
I don't claim to know everything, i claim to he better informed because of reading medical journals related to various topics.
Better than being a religious person who would rather hate their fellow man because they are lgbtqia+, a different skin color or follow a different religion than my own.
And how many papers have you read? Scientifically-minded people don’t claim to know everything, but we do know somethings, and it’s demonstrated daily when things happen as predicted, or when devices engineered with scientIfic knowledge work as designed. You could not read these words without the theory of quantum electrodynamics. Four years ago I traveled to Madras, Oregon to view a total eclipse of the sun, and it happened exactly as predicted to the second.
I don't think you know anything about science to know about "science" "people".
At some point, science can advance so far that it's starting to look like magic. What you are seeing is the magic of science. You can't comprehend the science behind it so you assume people are talking in gibberish.
Any scientist that tells you they know all the truth is no scientist at all.
Science is about providing the best descriptions based on observations, which change based on new observations. Science is open to reinterpretation and criticism to make sure that any claim can be proven and backed up.
Just curious what science people you spoke to and which science papers you have read?
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
― Issac Asimov
Proper science enthusiasts are humble enough to accept that we don't know everything, we try our best to know all that we can. When we learn own thing, there opens multiple opportunities to learn more.
But that being said, if one has a thorough understanding of a certain subject, one can point out mistakes when others make one, respectfully though.
Scientists are logical. 5% of people are logical thinkers and 95% are emotional or somewhere in between. If the 5% of logical people have a belief and 95% have a different belief. Only two things are possible. The 5% are correct or else they are all wrong.
I can't stand people who think that current science is objective truth and cannot be questioned. The entire point of science is questioning results, actually that's the entire point of the scientific method. The reason is, the more of those who get similar results using the same methods, the closer to the truth their findings may be.
Yeah srsly, reading the facebook news feed does not make you an expert, siding with health officials does not make you an expert, the average ‘science believer’ has no idea just how religious their belief is. There is no ‘science’ involved, they cannot possibly know if what they are reading is true or not because they are laymen, and furthermore, they don’t know the first thing about political corruption
Oh my GODDD, my best friend is like this. He's so smart but he takes EVERYTHING he reads off the Internet as fact and then pushes it on people as advice. He's so good at being wrong, it's gotten a bit crazy now. We have so many arguments all the time.
Honestly nobody knows the truth about everything even science can't completely prove where humans came from since there are multiple pieces of evidence that support different claims.
Yes... there is pseudoscience... they may have read wrong thing...
it's okay to feel embarrassed while someone talking in perspective of science...
But if they are really men of science... they will disagree only to inform truth... not to show arrogance...
Science is not an end, it is a journey. True scientists are willing to be wrong.
Yes! I agree with you, specially when corona came, it was hilarious and still is now with the vaccine and the Microsoft chip thing. I love it and it's only getting worse
