When do dress codes get discriminatory?

Special thanks to @Still-alive and his question If a woman dresses "inappropriately" at the work place what would YOU do about it? that inspired me to ask this one.
Personally I think it gets discriminatory when it forces people to wear clothing they hate, feel too uncomfortable in or humiliate them. Personally I give a lot of leeway to my entourage for the office work and field trips, however they are sensible enough to understand when an occasion is formal enough to warrant wearing suits or formal clothing. I generally just asks when I'd like to see them wear a tie or be formal, and they always agree.
What about you?

There's a level of "appropriate" and "professional" in every business or school the should be some standard.
I won't venture to state what that is but there should be a standard.

Victimhood mindset will declare discrimination and undermine any attempt for an established level of decency.

I think people associate formal wear with women wearing dresses and men wearing suits and ties. I know lots of men that don't like to wear suits and ties, AKA as the men call them: monkey suits. I personally am not too hip on wearing dresses. When I attend and or perform for my music performances, the women are supposed to wear dresses in the men are supposed to wear suits. I politely asked the head conductor and coordinator that I don't really feel like wearing a dress for performancw. I asked if I could wear slacks and Blazer which he had no problem with. Not everyone would be so understanding but I still don't understand why men have to wear suits and ties and women have to wear skirts. I think dressing appropriate & modestly is good enough.

Most people know what's acceptable in the workplace. The problem occurs when some guy turns up in a leather thong and nipple clamps then argues theirs nothing in the rules and he's been discriminated against. Next thing you know management is drawing up a long list of dos and don'ts to cover their asses from lawsuits.

Never heard of dress codes being humiliating. And people can say that they hate any attire just because they don't want dress codes. I personally don't think you should apply discriminatory terms too liberally. But customary formal attire requirements are always a good option.

I can't say they do.. A business paying their employees has a right to establish rules, dress code included.. If someone doesn't like that, they have a choice not to work for that company..

I'd rather quit the job than putting on a necktie.
In all other aspects I'm willing to cooperate.
Instead of feeling ''discriminated'', I'd rather admit that I picked an unsuitable workplace?

Always dress for the right occasions...
we have young teachers who dress inappropriately, they were sent home.
they are the representation of the little ones... college doesn’t teach these... still we are the role model for young minds.

Men have no choice, for most companies wearing suit and tie is the uniform of the day - every day, it is very rare to be allowed out of that straight jacket.
Women have more choices because 'Fashion' If you restricted their choices the same as men there would be a riot with words like 'Discrimination' being flung around.

If there is a dress code then either follow the dress code or do not go to the establishment. No one is forcing you to go.
