So that dvivison will always be there. But I’d agree most of the political division is from Repub leaning media spreading bullshit.

The electoral college is something that should exist. It allows smaller, less populous states to have a voice. If it didn’t exist, California and New York would determine every single election.

+1 yThere's definitely far too much money being funneled into politics in the United States. It's totally unfair to the average citizen. We need campaign finance reforms put into place immediately to stop Amazon, Apple, Disney, Facebook, Google, Hollywood, Netflix, Nike, Twitter, and Wall Street from donating hundreds of billions of dollars every election cycle to Republicans.
Wait a minute...111 Reply- +1 y
There's big money all over politics... but the biggest of big money has been going to the Democrats for years, via the companies and conglomerations I mentioned above. Bloomberg, Coca-Cola, and Comcast are more examples.
Any tears that the Democrats and their big money donors shed when campaign finance reform was stymied by the Republicans with their filibuster were all of the crocodile variety. It's also a pointless waste of time and taxpayers dollars by the House all around anyway, because it's not passing the Senate.
The real source of contention with H. R. 1 is the effort to permanently normalize mail-in voting during midterm and general elections. Something Jeff Bezos strongly supported during the 2020 election, but suddenly was dead-set against this past spring when his employees in Alabama wanted their union vote to be done via mail-in ballots. I wonder why? The vote wound up going in Bezos's favor anyway, as his Alabama employees voted not to unionize, but Bezos's hypocrisy is still real. In fact, he's now trying to stop a vote to unionize from even occurring in Staten Island. Meanwhile liberals wonder why middle-class Americans are leaving the Democratic party.
The blatant hypocrisy of Jeff Bezos is just a microcosm of the greater issue. - +1 y
The far right disinfotainment likes to say the democrats are the ones rolling in corporate money, but it is the opposite. Republicans are the ones with the heavy backers - indeed, the very existence of far right disinfotainment is evident enough. No one is paying to prop up far left personalities like they do with Shapiro, Jones, or Rogan. If you aren't in the traditional media you don't survive as a left wing personality. And if you are in the traditional media you are expected to exude at least the pretense of habing considered impartiality. The end result is a lot of money gets dumped into providing republicans with a robust and friendly media environment. No such allowance is given to democrats.
And the reason is because the people who have that kind of money to throw around benefit from Republican tax cuts. You do not. - +1 y
All of the companies and conglomerations I mentioned above donate hundreds of billions of dollars to Democrats, not Republicans. It wasn't even close during the 2020 election cycle:
www.cnbc.com/.../...early-14-billion-a-record.html
As for the media, the national media covers the Democrats with kid gloves. They harp on people in rural areas that aren't getting vaccinated (an important issue that needs to be covered), but totally ignore people living in the inner cities across the country that are also not getting vaccinated (also an important issue that needs to be covered). There are far more people living in cities than in rural areas, and they're living in much closer proximity to one another in cities than in rural areas. The national media also generally ignores the spikes in violence in metropolitan areas across the country.
Now the local media affiliates (WCBS, WNBC, WABC, etcetera) across the board do an excellent job covering what's going on in the cities across the country. They talk about issues and problems going on in places like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles that the national media almost never covers. If someone only watched the national news and never saw any local news broadcasts from any major metropolitan area, you'd never know about what was going on in cities throughout the country:
https://youtu.be/F-VLDfCl5ak
That's from NBC's local news outlets in Los Angeles, and there are many more videos from many other local news outlets like this one. Similar nonsense is taking place in New York City, Chicago, and many other cities across the country that have been run by Democrats and liberals for years, if not decades. Violent crime everywhere. To no shock or surprise, these stories almost never get covered by the national media. I wonder why? - +1 y
They donate to republicans, too. Just not publicly. That was the entire point of the citizens untied ruling the republicans packed the court to obtain: so rich people can hide who they donate to when it suits them. Obviously it doesn't suit them to hide donations to democrats, because they want narratives like the one you decided to believe.
The traditional national media covers both democrats and republicans with some semblance of fairness. The problem is a rise in nontraditional opinion based far right disinfotainment that is well funded and dominating the media nationwide. This always tilts the balance in favor of republicans because the only difference between a lie and an opinion is whether or not the teller is willing to admit they knew better. And that's the entire game of the right: admit nothing. - +1 y
It has nothing to do with "believing" or "hiding" anything. Jeff Bezos, Jack Dorsey, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates (Microsoft is another company that I failed to mention before), and the people running all of the companies and conglomerations I mentioned above, along with most of Wall Street, and just about all of Hollywood, are all openly Democrats. As individuals, they openly donate to Democrats and Democrat organizations all the time. They're not hiding anything. Their donations to Democrats and Democrat organizations as companies and conglomerations are generally 3 to 2. Again, they're not hiding anything. You can find all this financial information on many (. gov) and (. org) websites.
If the national media was covering what's going on across the country fairly, then they'd be covering the problems and issues going on in major metropolitan areas far more often. - +1 y
So they donate to Democrats, they raise money for Democrats, they support Democrats, they hold fundraisers for Democrats, they campaign for Democrats, they publicly endorse Democrats, they vote for Democrats, they're registered as Democrats, but they're not Democrats, and secretly funding Republicans instead?
Unless you have some sort of financial evidence of an undocumented river of money that's flowing to Republicans from every person, company, corporation, and conglomeration I mentioned above, beyond what they're all doing publicly, then it's just your opinion, bordering on a conspiracy theory. I'll stick with documented statistics and mathematics. - +1 y
They do none of those things, of course. Some of the newer billionaires might, but the inherited money like the Kochs and the people bankrolling Hertiage, turning point, and other far right think tanks, are very definitely republicans. I get that it benefits them to instead talk about largely apolitical people, but sadly no, the rich influencing the Republican party are infinitely more interested in politics than the rich influencing democrats. Because the rich influencing the republicans learned that they can just change the rules such that they always win. Hopefully the rich backing the democrats have been alerted to the existential danger the Republican party poses and start dropping real money.
- +1 y
Yes the Koch Brothers are Republicans, and they (now he) and their (now his) companies donate billions to Republicans, Republican candidates, and Republican groups. So do other established billionaires. That's not a revelation.
The "new" billionaires I mentioned above *do* care about politics... otherwise they wouldn't bother donating anything at all. Also, they are donating "real" money to Democrats. Like it states in the CNBC article above, Democrats raised far more money than Republicans in the last election cycle, and it's been that way for a few years now. That amount of money isn't coming from average people.
It wasn't that long ago when Republicans were financially outperforming Democrats on a regular basis... but that's not true anymore. - +1 y
They donate for their own reasons. Neither you nor I can presume to guess.
But in any case, it seems like we agree that rich people controlling politics is a bad thing. In my opinion, that already places you above the multitudes of far right weirdos that seem so desperate for an oligarchy (where they dont have to make any societal decisions: because the power to do so is taken from them) that they literally voted for a billionaire last election. Somehow it seems like the rich used their resources to muddy the water over who exerts the most control over politics, such that people like yourself discover ways to blame the party that doesn't do nothing, at all, but cut taxes for the rich and give more power to the rich - like how many democrats signed the Norquist pledge? This shouldn't be confusing but I suppose with trillions in combined resources it's not hard to make it confusing.

8.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No I think the Republicans see what policies that the democrats are putting in and decide to vote against it.
017 Reply- +1 y
Yeah many people, people who actually want freedom left and right, think of those guys as part of the establishment who thirst for power and have been demonstrating that power for decades and especially since covid hit. Also I don't know a single republican who likes Mitch McConnell. He is just as much a part of the establishment as the vast majority of politicians there.
- +1 y
And yet despite his massive unpopularity he has been in the Senate for decades and confirmed more judges, not to mention more SCOTUS seats, than anyone else. Because the disinfotainment and voter suppression works. Keep people distracted with trivialities that divide them and they won't unite to make sure their government is fair and productive.
- +1 y
Exactly. In the state he's from its constantly the classic "douche vs. turd sandwich" vote and they vote for the R anyway because they know the resulting policies will be the same regardless.
Many Republicans I know are largely in favor of using the convention of states to force in legislation to put in term limits for congress members because they know it can't happen without it. - +1 y
Yeah, that false "both sides" narrative sure has worked out well for republicans. Yet every time democrats are in charge some small amount of productivity occurs, despite all the republican sabotage. But that never happens under republicans. Even when they are given free reign to do anything productive at all, they end up just cutting taxes for the rich, going into more debt to give the rich subsidies, and cutting government function fo everyone else.
- +1 y
It's more of a difference between authoritarians and libertarians in my opinion. The party doesn't matter as long as they want to use the power of the state to do what they want. Giving power and support to corporations through the state have been happening for a very long time thanks to lobbying and both sides have been doing it, I seem to remember Bush was trying to prevent GM from failing and Obama was trying to prevent Solyndra from failing by constantly throwing money at them.
I don't know why bother cutting taxes for the rich since they don't even pay them anyway through some sort of loophole but I do support cutting taxes for everyone and reducing the power of government programs because some are designed to be a vicious cycle of corruption or just to be a thorn in the people's side. - +1 y
Well, don't intertwine power and support. I think it's a perfectly fine idea for the government to step in and help a struggling business - to a point. The main questions in such situations should be "is that business ahead of its time and the public will want it when it is established?" And "are the startup costs too high to allow for new competition?" Neither of these are easy to answer. This is why the question ought to be put to the public so it is on them to pay for and so on them if they were wrong. Instead we have lobbyists exerting all the influence on politicians who need money to get reelected. And the reason it costs so much to get reelected is because misinformation has dominated the media industry, and so either side has to pay people off to be nice. Unfortunately, the vast majority of those to be paid off are far right infotainment trolls, so republicans don't end up needing to pay much and what democrats pay ends up being largely ineffective.
The problem with cutting taxes is the simple fact that we need government to function. There isn't really an alternative to this unless we want to go back to the caves (and if that is what you want, no one is stopping you). There isn't really a middle ground if we're talking about direction. We move society towards the caves or away from them. And a way to functionally pool resources for the sake of collective endeavors is how we move away from the caves. There are exactly two civilized ways to pool resources: 1) taxes. 2) go deeper into debt. The republicans seem keen on lowering taxes on the rich and raising the debt. The democrats seem to prefer the opposite. That's what the last 40 years of budgetary fact shows. - +1 y
I think that the only reason for government involvement is to prevent monopolies so that innovation will continue to thrive and improve our way of life. I don't know how "ahead of its time" is defined because sometimes new things aren't all that popular like new Coke for example. I don't think the government has any right to decide that.
I am in favor of lowering taxes not only because it puts more money in people's pockets but it also limits the government's choices on what to do with other people's money so that they will hopefully make smarter decisions with it and not spend it on useless things like that one covid bill that sent $15M to Pakistani gender studies education which doesn't help us at all. Even now our money is being paid for weapons given to the Taliban because the establishment knows there's nothing the people can do about it. - +1 y
You can't say government should do anything at all unless you also say they should have the resources to do it. Thus making the government weaker than any company with a monopoly would have is saying you don't, in fact, want them to prevent any such thing.
And no money was sent to Pakistani gender studies. That's Right wing infotainment. - +1 y
Yes, after decades of political neglect from we the people, our government has become corrupted. The solution, however, is to stop neglecting it. This is precisely why the right tries so hard to bore everyone to tears when it comes to politics, to make people ashamed of they try to do the right thing, and make people believe no politics that aren't jovial and degrading to someone else are worth participating in.
- +1 y
"The right thing" is subjective.
Also, maybe its because I have been listening to libertarians on both sides but I have never seen a right wing thing that's all that degrading to certain groups of people that aren't often strawman.
There are many "movements" on the left that rely on degrading certain groups of people with biological determinants to advance some sort of authoritarian goal. They rely on sentiments to get people who aren't paying attention on their side and to help them get away with the fact that they are appealing to the opposite of what they claim the world actually is to make progress on their agenda. - +1 y
I've yet to see a Republican talking point that wasn't just an attempt to blame democrats for something. They have no accomplishments of their own to talk about and so resort to sabotaging government, blaming the government we all saw them sabotage for everyone's problems, and then mock democrats for wanting to fix it instead of get rid of the obviously broken government that, again, we all watched them break.
- +1 y
Well yes, that's what the right does. They mainly (or at least that's what the constituents believe) do a look before you leap approach to legislation. They want to stick to what works and scrutinize any changes proposed to make sure it is not a detriment to the citizens. Of course republicans are going to criticize the democrats because they are mainly the ones who bring up issues and debate on what to do about it. If they are working together then it defeats the entire point of having the two parties in the first place. It's completely natural for criticism to appear from both sides.
- +1 y
They may say they do that but there isn't any evidence that they actually do it, besides their word. Like the affordable care act. There was plenty to criticize but we never heard a peep of real criticism, because they were too busy making up fake problems like death panels to get people scared and mad at. I was relying on republicans to read it and tell us honestly about the flaws. But they didn't take that task seriously, instead opting to just try to turn public opinion against it by putting on a performance. That's when I realized that is everything they are as a party: nonserious and dishonest people who put on a show to get what they want. Nothing more. No exceptions.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yYou feel that half the media is republican friendly?
Opinion Owner+1 yI get your point but I still think the media is heavily biased towards their favoured dialogue. And currently that is not in the favour of the republicans.
Does that then lend itself towards republican voters congregating at the few portals that support them? Probably, but I'd be surprised if that evened out the overall consumption figures- +1 y
The right wing media is heavily biased, yes. Fox, oann, newsmax, Sinclair, infowars, daily wire, Washington examiner, Limbaugh (until recently), rasmussen.. I could go on. None of these things are news. But they present themselves as news to their viewers. Then they present themselves as opinion in court; but what is the difference between a lie and an opinion? On the right, at least, the difference is whether or not the person telling it is willing to admit they knew better. And there's just no incentive for anyone on the right to admit any such thing.
What is traditionally called the liberal media, however, is evenly critical of democrats and republicans. You can hardly distinguish between CNN and Fox when democrats are in charge, except in word choice. But the difference is glaringly obviois when republicans are in charge: CNN continues to be equally as critical, but Fox becomes sycophantic. Democrats don't get a robust and well funded safety net of story tellers to ignore all democratic faults and keep the Democratic base happy. But Republicans do. And they are extremely good at it.
I’m not huge into politics but this is a bad take. Republicans win because people agree with their policies.

Democrats are infinitely better. But then, to be fair, anything is infinitely better than zero.
Though I find it weird that I'm the only one who finds it weird that all the "both sides" people spontaneously evaporate when democrats are accused of communism or whatever. But mention any fault with republicans and you need a 72 inch screen to fit all the "BOtH SiDEs!" people coming out of the woodworks.. - +1 y
"Infinitely better"
How can you look at demented Biden and say that? Or see how AOC and the squad won't even force the vote on ANYTHING and the founder of the Justice Democrats, Kyle Mulinski is even denouncing them?
If you are for liberalism than the current Democrats should absolutely repulse you even more than the Republicans because the Democrats are *supposedly* on your side.
"Vote blue no matter who" is the mantra of the liberal battered wife. - +1 y
If you stop watching the republican campaign infotainment networks you'll find that Biden isn't actually demented.
As for the flaws in the Democratic party, I'm aware of them, but just because pushing in the right direction is met with resistance doesn't mean we should stop and let others push in the opposite dirextion. The whole point of democracy is everyone gets an equal voice. This means democrats represent the ridiculousness of republicans to the exact same extent they represent me. And I'm fine with that. But this leaves no purpose for Republican politicians other than to create division.. - +1 y

Yes, the right wing media campaigns for republicans constantly, and one of the ways they do that is to trick people into thinking republicans are somehow victims of democrats or the object of democrats hatred. The goal is to make right wingers obnoxious so they get in the face of democrats and demand to be hated. Eventually they get their wish, but not because they are republicans: because they are in our face being obnoxious. Unless that's just how republicans are defined these days..

Bro, rallies aren't the only way to campaign, bro. And he held them anyway. But no one cared, really. They simpky learned, after four years of trump screwing up absolutely everything, that competence actually does matter and the president isn't just a figurehead. So people turned out in droves to get us back to some semblance of civilized. Sadly, the far right is trying to remain stubbornly uncivilized just to create failure for Biden when there otherwise wouldn't be.
- +1 y
13 of our Marines died due to him screwing up so of course I don’t care to hear anything he has to say then he had the nerve to check his watch a billion times. He is a failure otherwise no American would be left in Afghanistan. Trump would have made sure that the Taliban was making a deal with us and not the other way around but go ahead and keep believing that Biden is doing the best he can.
- +1 y
They died because it is a war. That's what happens in a war. And anyway, he didn't "screw up." The republicans sabotaged the transition to the new administration to help Trump with his coup. Also, they did it to create failure where there wouldn't otherwise be any because republicans never have any policies to run on (besides printing more money for the rich) and so rely entirely on people being gullible enough to get mad at democrats. So mad they overlook how it was the prior administration that set the whole stupid plan into motion and none of y'all even acknowledged the criticism.
The right had four years to show they cared about dead soldiers. You didn't care then. You don't care now. You just want to stay mad at democrats because that's more entertaining than taking some real responsibility for your country.
