As you can guess, some men (and even some women) were not pleased.
One day after a strict new anti-abortion law in Texas was enacted that restricts abortions when a pregnancy has reached six weeks, the actress and activist proposed a somewhat unorthodox protest.
I think you're kind of missing the point. The idea wasn't that it would bother the married lawmakers, or hardcore conservatives. They're probably already with people who agree with them.
The idea was that it would bother the men that right-leaning women usually have sex with. Many of them are already pro-choice, but there are plenty who aren't. There are plenty of men out there who are perfectly happy to sleep with women they just met, but still stay that she should accept sole responsibility for whatever happens as a result, even though it was his idea as much as it was hers. Those are the people that it was intended to bother. Because those men would no longer have access to women to sleep with.
It also wasn't just geared toward single women. Quite a few women are married to or dating men who are more right-leaning than they are. Because men tend to lean further right. Especially when it comes to women's rights, because they don't know what it's like to be a woman, and they know that they never need to worry about the laws personally impacting them.
That being said, I still think it was a bad idea to post that. It implies that the main political power women hold is through sex. It also makes it seem like women don't enjoy sex themselves. Like sex is something that only men enjoy. Any sane person knows that this is false. Not to mention, similar things have been suggested in the past. It never goes well. So she should know better.
Sure she thought it through. She doesn’t care what horrified “conservatives” think, nor does she really expect people to listen. It’s obviously tongue-in-cheek to make her point.
Seems bizzarely self destructive to me. In fact, most of the western world seems bizarrely addicted to masochism and suffering and self destruction/self punishing. 6 weeks pregnant and still being allowed to abort - I really see as very considerate as guidance. You can always go out of state to get your... fix of suffering. How would anyone a) not know they are pregnant a day later (in fact, that moment), b) why does the west keep pretending women are perpetually pregnant and aborting when that is hugely damaging to their health, both mental and physical, c) To abstain from sex (or simply use condoms) until you _want to give birth_ seems a no brainer to me - the whole 'right to kill' thing simply isn't going to materialise/was a baby boomer deviation that is getting to an end.
Women DO have the right to do with their bodies as they want. However, when they're pregnant, there are limitations on what women can do with the OTHER body inside them. You see, that OTHER person deserves some protections.
Too many women have believed the LIES of the liberals - it's not a real human, it's just a lump of cells, it's like cutting off a finger nail, an unborn doesn't have personhood conferred on it until its born, and it's not really alive until birth.
Personally, I think TX did the right thing. I wish more states would enact similar laws.
I mean if she really wants women to practice abstinence in protest of anti-abortion legislation, be my guest. If you removed stupid people having reckless sex from the equation, then the abortion issue would diminish to near obscurity.
Obviously people are forgetting that being pregnant isn't just giving birth but also post partum depression, massive stress to the female body, the risk of pregnancy poison, emotional detachment from the baby and so much more or even worse.
Men just orgasm and go on with their lives. If they're one of the extra funny ones they leave the girl/woman because they don't want the child. The do exactly what us women get shamed for!
Depends on the guy but in some cases I agree. I support q welfare safety net for mother's and I also support child support because a child should never be without. I know many pro lifers don't feel like he same way that I do on it but I certainly do.
