Are black people tribal? Should we stop policing black neighborhoods and just let black people deal with the consequences of crime surge?

I feel like black people are tribal because of how their culture developed during slavery. And then of course you have all those years of segregation and institutional racism that took place after.

But what I been noticing is that pretty much every time a black person does anything wrong black people will still defend them.

Hence the whole idea of “black lives matter”. Black people will always defend eachother no matter what.

Even in instances where an armed black suspect was involved in a shootout with Police, they will still get angry for no reason.

But I don’t blame black people.

I feel as though it is only natural for us to want to defend those who look like us because we begin to associate them with ourselves.

I mean I can’t say I’m not slightly guilty of this myself. I was out defending Derek Chauvin and insisting he absolutely did nothing wrong when I guess all the evidence that’s since come out seems to suggest Floyd did in fact die to asphyxiation.

I want to try to have a real discussion with you asker because I feel like you bring up a very good point with good intentions.

I wouldn’t say that Black people are tribal - more Africans than Black-Americans. But they do tend to want to look out for each other and their families like anyone else, maybe even more

Here’s the reality of the black situation from what I can understand, as a black person.

It seems very complex - but the main issue with the black community isn’t gang violence, isn’t drugs and it isn’t poverty, it actually stems from one simple thing - trust.

You see - a community that trusts each other and that is trusted by the rest of the world - succeeds a long way compared to a community that doesn’t. They are more productive, They are more generous, and they are willing to work together with others like them to succeed, And less willing to judge other people when they make mistakes or when they have differences.

The problem is by some flaw of human nature humans were designed to associate negative traits with darker skin. This goes for people of all races and generally to a lesser extent black people too.

And the thing is if you don’t associate something with something positive or at least something neutral then there’s a good likelihood that you don’t trust that thing - Whether it’s a object or a person.

You see Black people in reality aren’t really more dangerous or worse, compared to other races of people. In fact it’s the judgment about them that causes them to actually modify their behavior to behave better and many circumstances from - what I’ve seen (In order to combat that negative stereotypes). However for the most part this doesn’t really do much in the grand scheme of things - We like to believe that racism is a thing that’s taught but sadly it’s a thing that people are born with and while some amount of social engineering can modify that behavior it doesn’t stop people from treating Black people or distrusting them the way they do.

In my opinion if Black people had the same amount of trust in each other that white communities having other white people - We wouldn’t see them struggling the way we do. But because of this perception of them people are less likely to trust them with important things like money or loans - On a global scale they’re not gonna have a lot of connections in different countries because those countries won’t really trust them etc. At least from what I understand.

But I’m getting off the point

As for you asking if Black people are tribal - I would say that the only reason movements like a BLM sprung up out of nowhere to defend Black people even when they look bad is because Black people generally know that a lot of the time people tend to judge Black people more harshly or assign longer prison sentences to them for the same crimes as their lighter skin peers, They are also aware of the fact that because of these perceptions of Black people Black people are also seven times more likely to be wrongfully convicted for crimes they didn’t commit.

It’s this negative perception of them that ultimately weighs them down In many different aspects of their life - both internally in their community and externally outside their community. It’s a very harsh reality to deal with

Should we stop policing black neighborhoods? Who's "we" ? 99% of the negative interactions between the black community and police take place in deep blue cities, where 95% of the black vote has gone to the administrations who hired the police chiefs (by the way can we still call them chiefs, or is that racist now too?) and who oversee the departments. Chauvin is a prime example.

Police departments are ALL LOCAL. Start holding your local officials responsible for their job performance, or don't complain about the outcomes of said performance.

If you do that, you’d have to wall them in so that they do no commit crimes against neighboring civilization and never face justice for their crimes against others... Concentration camps/ghettos don’t tend to work out too well in the long run... It’s better to continue to maintain the rule of law.

They may be kind of tribal.
I noticed the trend of some black people putting race loyalty ahead of defending individuals.
I did see one black guy who was raised by a white family side with his white coworkers when an angry black coworker was losing her shit at everyone. She accused him of not standing up for black people, but he just ignored her and figured she's a terrible person.
