I know our generation lacks in some areas, but I think we will make a lot of good changes. We are already more accepting than the past generations, and we are open to new ideas. I think we will also make great parents, because a lot of us have seeing shi we don’t wish upon our children. Not only we will accept them for who they are, but we will validate their opinions.

I’m an older gen z. I find us older ones are better. Quieter at least. Younger ones are very superficial and full of themselves. Just my opinion of course
Even though whole theme around "Generations" is mostly an American topic, we have a similar thing going on here. I'm also what you guys consider a "early Gen z" and I know it sound bias, but older gen Z are the better ones and not obnoxious or fragile as the later Gen Z.
I see Gen Z as the eventuality of Millennials: a bunch of coddled, self-centered narcissists (I bet you can't tell which demographic I'm referring to) who can't wait to check TikTok/Instagram/[insert social media here] for their next dose of social media validation and likes. While their parents were digital trendsetters because they grew up with technology, Gen has lived a very different story and are more like trend followers.
The majority of this cohort aren't old enough to remember a time before the iPhone, "apps", or the Internet; it's just always been there. Because of this, a lot of Gen Z really has no concept of "self"; having grown up in a world of digital, "always-on" connectedness, they've never really had the opportunity to define themselves and instead opted to allow the online world to define them. This means that Gen Z (and subsequently, Gen Alpha) has largely externalized their locus of control; the "positive side?" of this is that many Gen Z are "born influencers", having grown up with social media, and see it as a natural extension of themselves. The repercussion of this upbringing means they largely externalize their ability to process self-value. A person who does this often themselves embroidered in a battle for identity (something which Gen Alpha suffers from even more) and has a hard time seeing themselves as a fully self-actualized individual, instead being a mere actor for the amusement of others.
After all, they live in a world where social validation is a highly-valued commodity and the speed of information transmission means they have to be "on" at any given moment, to put on a performance for the whole world, or risk social ostracism and bullying for failure to comply. It should come as no surprise, then, that Gen Z is plagued with anxiety and depression, and their humor is commiserate with this bleak worldview.
I sometimes have lots of concerns about Gen-Z's relationships with people. There are a lot of epic distractions for Gen-Z: social media, video games that require so much investment, etc. And I see a rise of materialism and hedonism, like some "alpha male" image that seems more about trying to score with as many women as possible than building and protecting a family and taking on the greatest of responsibilities.
I do like the open-mindedness when I encounter it. It's better than my parents. But there's also sometimes a close-mindedness there, if I generalize, like this cancel culture.
Most of all I hope Gen-Z will find their way in terms of understanding the values of family, communities, and the deepest of friendships. That might be harder in this technological age than my Gen-X upbringing.
Cheers! Well, you're our future as I see it. My generation is not without its cons. I see this age now as the greatest age of exploration, although my boomer parents might have seen us the same way. At the end of my journey so far, I reflect back on my life and think we're meant to be social creatures belonging to communities and finding the greatest richness in life from it, and I think that's a bigger challenge for Gen-Z than I ever faced before. Somehow the internet seems to connect us on such a broad level but maybe not the deepest.
One of the things in my case is that I got to witness the internet becoming a household thing in my time. It was around university years in my case along with cell phones and the like. Social media was still some years away.
And I was exposed to so many new ideas through the internet. At first, it's like the most exciting thing just being able to talk to someone across the world. But I think it helped me somehow when it comes to things like values and ideals that I might have even lived without that sort of broad range of communication, isolated in places with just the people around me.
It helped me to form some values and ideals and even a sense of romance. They're all sort of narrow-minded in a sense, mind you, but they guide my life now. They're what gives me a sense of drive, meaning, purpose.
And I might be biased meeting so many jaded youths in the Gen-Z category on this site, but I think maybe they were exposed sometimes to too many conflicting ideas growing up that they've turned to nihilism... like "nothing matters". And I empathize because I can easily see myself becoming like that if I saw too many conflicts of ideas and values at too young of an age.
... and I chose the word "empathize" there very carefully, not "sympathize", because I've gotten enough hints from my peculiar life to get a sense of what these young people feel. I think a Gen-Z life is a harder life than the one I lived, and I could go to the old fogie ways of gloating about how hard we had it, all the things we didn't have that young people have, and I'm tempted sometimes, but I really think it's harder to find our place in the world as Gen-Z than Gen-X.
They will grow out of the nothing matters stage, when they experience the world. It is usually the younger ones that think that way. I remember thinking my opinions and thoughts don’t matter, when I was growing up. Our parents make us feel that way.
Now, I am out of the house, and I have to make my own decisions. Our opinions do matter, and what we think matters. 💜

It’s a hard life trying to understand everything. I’ve come to understand that nobody cares about us except our friends and family. What if you don’t have friends and family? What if you realize most people are out for themselves and don’t care about hurting you along the way? This is true by the way.
Intelligence is a burden. Understanding is a curse. If and when the time comes we have to fight to survive again then intelligence will be a gift but for now. It’s better to be blissfully ignorant. Life is like walking a tight rope. If your not super intelligent it’s just difficult but if your smart enough then a light brightens the water below the rope filled with piranhas and death.

Na remember back as a kid when adults were so different from you as a kid and they got to do anything and knew everything. Becoming one I realized them fuckers were just winging it and we were little more then Guinea pigs lol. But you got a point on the different degrees of caring. I’m 22 and therefore am one of the older Zoomers and I think we are the worst generation by far. We’ve embraced cultural degeneracy, which I’d mostly blame Tik Tok and wokeism for.
We view having children as immoral and being forever single as empowering. Zoomers have the highest rate of suicide out of any generation but many of us would probably see that as a positive thing because Greta Thunberg and Bill Gates say they are too many people and we have to save the planet.

You don’t need validation from other generations to make yourself feel better. Gen Z is fine. Just like the rest of the generations. Trust me the older generations were not much better. They talk a big game about accountability, hard work, and respect. When they couldn’t accept people that didn’t look like them, spent most of there time protesting the protesters of civil rights, and completely disrespected, blacks, Asians, Naives, hell anyone that wasn’t like them.. so yeah, the older generation isn’t anything to look at and go, “huh, that was a good generation..” they were trash as much as rhe they say everyone else was.

Gen Z future is completely fucked. The politicians royally screwed you over with debt. They snatched and grabbed all the money from the “Build Back Better” plan and stimulus checks. All those trillions of dollars…you’ll be paying for it. Those politicians will be long dead. As for Gen Z as a generation? Because of kids having phones in their hands as babies, and education being shut down because of covid, there will be a huge amount of mental illness and crime that will affect you. Depression is going to skyrocket. A lot of people can’t go without phones or internet if their lives depended on it.
Agree to disagree. You may be stupid, I may be stupid, but not all people of Gen-Z are stupid. Some are genuinely good people who are knowledgeable and kind-hearted. It’s the loud ones who ruin everything.

I was in an online discussion. The topic was Hagel. Some 20 year old was making a point about Communist China as if he thought he actually knew about China. Someone mentioned the name Mao. The kid had no clue as to who Mao was yet he thought he was well schooled in Chinese history.
My point in telling this is people don't know what they don't know. This the need to question things and not accept all that is told to you.
@billyballs the same can be applied to people of other ages. Just because someone is older, doesn’t mean that they know everything. A wise person doesn’t dismiss a younger one’s opinion just because the person is younger.
I'm not a fan of how the younger (post 1964) generations are labelled. The older ones (boomers, silent generation, lost generation, etc...) were divided by major historic events that would make the experience of an early boomer more relatable to a late boomer 10 years younger than them than a late silent generationer 5 years older than them. Meanwhile, generation X, Y, Z are sequential labels given to 15 year time increments. in my opinion, the '07-'08 financial crash and the '20-'21 pandemic should define a generation that came of age during and between them (those born ~1987-2004).
I can’t keep track of the generations anymore… I’ll just say this. The biggest issues ull face are society, family, marriage, and connection.
Too many think their supposed to be happy. Na happiness is something you find temporarily. Then you look to be happy again. People give up the moment their not happy. Kids these days have no spine.
You hit the nail on the head. Far too many people have been taught to actually be hedonistic. Happiness is as temporary as buying an ice-cream or sitting by the beach or the initial feeling of buying a new item but society should actually be focused on is contentment (not complacency but contentment). Contentment teaches one gratitude (which is so scarce judging by the entitlement that many across the generations seem to have in my opinion). Everything lately has become so temporary because many people as of late have pleasure seekers. That explains the constant comparisons, how “replaceable “ people have become and just a general lack of humanity.
Very accurate. I don’t understand from a woman’s perspective what does it mean to have a family? What do you risk? What do you sacrifice? What do you expect? As a man looking at family I sacrifice myself for the family. Defense… working 80 hrs a week… responsibility for all failure as the leader… my bachelor life… what do I risk? Everything. Falling in love and losing my family over a whim… alimony… child support… being more devoted to family then most I lose everything if I fail. So I expect a great deal in return for my risk. Let’s be frank… these skanks today just couldn’t measure up. Don’t even know the meaning of faithfulness… sacrifice… grace… respect… dignity… every considered relationship I have to consider these things and that’s a big put off for looking for family. It pushes me away from people and causes me to not want to get involved to help or further our society…
Well like men, women are not a monolith so we will definitely bring definitely things to relationships. Where I’m from, men and women respect each other, where as when I arrived her, men and women are entitled, treat each other horribly yet expect successful relationships and never take accountability for themselves and instead, resort to careless mudslinging. I can only speak for myself and I think I’d risk a lot in a relationship because my fiancé is worth the risk (bearing a child, rearing and looking after the household for him to come home to and ensure that I’m actually making it a home for him and my future children). The west unfortunately has themselves to blame for the decay that a huge chunk of their society has become. Way too much blame shifting between everyone and very little accountability.

@Gorge95 I don't use special pronouns, believe in Safe Spaces, or accept terms like "genderfluid, non-binary," etc. I don't accept transpeople as the gender they make-believe to be (but I'll try to show respect to them if they can be respectful back), and I don't accept being heterosexual yet sleeping with "bisexual" women (dykes) while still claiming to be heterosexual and not a degenerate. I don't smoke weed, nor accept it, and I don't have a porn addiction (I don't even like porn; why do "straight" dudes want to see other dudes bang each other?)
Obviously it's not all Millennials, and I don't fit into that stereotype, but there is literally not a redeeming quality in what people think of as the stereotypical Millennial.

Wokeness really began in 2011 after insane people (who we now refer to as social justice warriors) co-opted Occupy Wall Street, destroying the movement (intentionally; this was Soros' plan). They rose to power in 2013 with Black Lives Matter after the Trayvon Martin killing. And they reached their full society-destroying potential in 2015, after taking over universities. The oldest Zoomers today would've been 13 when wokeness began, and are only 24-25 right now. Wokeness DEFINITELY came from Millennials; specifically people currently in their early 30s. I'm probably the very LAST generation that grew up without woke idiots around me in high school.
People label Gen X, Gen Z, Baby Boomers or whatever. There are good people and bad people from all generations. The generalization of labeling the entire generation as bad because of some is ridiculous. In the end, we are all human and make mistakes. The entire back in my day spiel needs to stop. Times change.
Don't really have one. Pushing myself to look at people as individuals instead part of a given group. Disconnecting myself from major social media sights has help me do that a lot and has helped me looked at my generation as well as gen z in as less of a joke.

All generations younger than generation X are full of self absorbed and unintelligent people who add little to no value to America or the human race in general. This can change for the better, but doesn’t appear it will. Ultimately the problem is a lack of discipline, a disdain for sacrifice and hard work to achieve and the continual lowering of standards in every area of life.
It was an interpersonal family issue. Complicated. Basically I wanted to handle it one way…the easier way because that relative was a very difficult person to deal with.
She suggested a different more difficult way but way that I viewed as more correct at that time.
many of them were raised by parents who came from single parent households so they never learned the things their parents never learned. Thus lower coping skills and not knowing how to do what seems like easy things. Schools taught them to :accept: destructive ideals and lifestyles in the name of wokeness.

Don’t know much about them. I just know the same things my parents knew…”kids have things way different than I did…”. Just an example is I used to play at my parents office and use an electric typewriter to play with and talk with old Vietnam War Helicopter Pilots…not something Gen Z usually have as an experience. Not a knock just different
i have had a fair share of stupid and nice gen z's. but for the most part, I've never understood why some seriously lack brain cells or making new weird trends everyday. again, this doesn't apply to all gen z's.
They will put their mark on the world more so than x. I hope it’s a good mark. A lot of social structure was removed, religion, education is different, socialization. I hope they can find the spiritual human again.
We're one of the most privileged generations. We have the privileged to be born into a generation with better education, resources, technology and understanding of life and others (open-mindedness, etc.).
Well I'm actually not too fond of this generation. I've always felt a little like an outsider, and have had a hard time finding friends. People are all so loud, complaining all the time over 1st world problems and overeacting to minor issues.

I don't know. I feel our generation gets offended easily. People are so sensitive and are forced to accept every new viewpoint. Every generation might feel they are better than their previous one.

Well your generation is the offspring of my generation. So if there's a problem with your generation than that's the failure of my generation. But you kids are fine. Nothing I'm alarmed about.

Every generation has it better than previous ones in some way, and there are also downfalls. But every person is different. Everyone has to learn morals and ethics to survive in this world.
