Trending & News A sovereign nation is not and cannot be considered a "Terrorist State" no matter what kinds of atrocities it commits. It is not a real designation, and the closest you could get to that would be an insurgent coup unrecognized by the rest of the world taking over a country while using violence against civilians as the rule of law. You could make an argument that the Islamic State established by ISIS in the wake of the US withdrawal from Iraq could meet that criteria, but that's the only one in recent memory of international repute. In order for a group to be identified as "terrorists," they have to be non-state actors.
In terms of State Sponsored Terrorism, there are only four countries that fit that criteria, and Russia is not one of them. Iran and North Korea are by far the biggest culprits of this, mainly against other Middle Eastern countries and East Asia, respectively.
Frankly, a lot of these formal designations and accusations have no teeth unless they are decisively beaten in a war, because nobody is going to go in and apprehend the perpetrators, and winners don't punish themselves except when politically advantageous. In Russia's case, due to how abusive the relationship between the Kremlin and the military brass is, it's very likely that regardless of what happens in Ukraine, they will purge their ranks under the guise of rooting out "traitors" or "free thinkers" or "problem makers," which would include the commanders who the west would identify as war criminals. The chances of those people being turned over for international trial however are virtually zero, as Russia does not recognize the authority of anyone but itself in such matters.
They are acting like one.
Over most of its history since the revolution they have funded Marxist terrorist organisations.
A lot has been directly on by supporting countries to put together training camps.
Sort of, they can do whatever they want and the rest of the world will let them. What do you call it when a county can do whatever it wants to its neighbors and no one is able to do anything to stop them?
Terrorists are not something that can easily be stopped because they will go to the extreme if anyone tries to stop them. In Russia's case it is the nukes, try to stop us and will destroy the world. In that sense they are very much a terrorist state. They are holding the rest of the world hostage via threats of destroying it.
If Cuba signed a defense treaty with Russia or China and offered itself to host Russian/Chinese nukes 90 miles away from the US territory, do you think the US wouldn't threaten to start a global nuclear too?
By the way, how do you explain that the US is blocking the International Criminal Court from holding Israel accountable for war crimes and the crime of apartheid? Isn't it terrorism?
Let's see if your problem is a lack of intelligence, understanding or careful thought.
@keep_ya_head_up Wouldn't care, subs are better for nukes anyways... distance doesn't really matter, just matters at how long it takes to hit. Does it matter if it takes 5 minutes or 20 minutes?
Plus Ukraine has NEVER SIGNED A TREATY TO HOST NUKES NEAR RUSSIA... what planet are you on?
I don't know anything about Israel, that is a different subject, off topic here.
Well, the US State Dept Spox threatened to start a military action if Russia deployed its military to Cuba and Venezuela.
www.state.gov/.../
Can we call the US a terrorist state now?
"Plus Ukraine has NEVER SIGNED A TREATY TO HOST NUKES NEAR RUSSIA"
NATO would be that treaty.
"I don't know anything about Israel, that is a different subject"
Now you know. www.amnesty.org/.../
@keep_ya_head_up Don't care about Israel, like I said different topic... as for the Cuba thing, sure the US would be considered a terrorist state if most the UN was against what they are doing and no one could stop them.
KEY HERE is most the UN is against what they are doing. So if the US went to invade Cuba and the UN voted that it was bad and the vast majority wanted them to stop and they didn't, then I 100% agree the US is a terrorist state.
Ukraine is not in NATO, so that is irrelevant. If they had joined then your point would be valid.
Russia is a terrorist state for invading, then using its soldiers to do mass killings, raping thousands of women and girls, and trying to hide it all.
They know they can do it and no one is going to stop them, that there will never be justice for their victims.
If the USA did the same thing to Cuba, invade, mass kill civilians, rape and murder women and girls, then yeah total terrorist state.
The US is however not doing any of that, so as of right now they are not, but IF they do that they would be.
While the US has the ability to become a terrorist state, they have not met the criteria.
"If the USA did the same thing to Cuba, invade, mass kill civilians, rape and murder women and girls, then yeah total terrorist state."
They did to Iraq. But Iraqis are not human beings, right? https://youtu.be/Kn_ta6wu9Mc
@keep_ya_head_up You do realize that is not the US right? UK is not the US. You keep changing subject, I'm not talking Iraq either.
I think I'm going to call it quits here, cause your response is no doubt going to be another deflection to something off topic again.
Have a nice day.
Oh, no, Jade!!!
Were the deaths of half a million Iraqi children worth it?
