If UPS leaves a package addressed to another person are you obligated to be an unpaid UPS slave?

That happened to me and I wasted 4 hours of my time (about $200) over a period of 6 days to have a $50 package picked up. I took it to my neighbor and he told me that was a prior owner. 6 times, I called the addressee's number but she never answered. I called UPS but a person will not answer and computer didn't recognize "Delivered to Wrong Address" or several variations and would not let me talk to a person.

I tried sending UPS a message, but they required that I first create an UPS account. UPS Chat is a computer and would not let me talk to a person and told me to call. I called UPS again; and, after jumping through their many hoops and being placed on hold, I lied so I could talk to a person. However, even so, UPS did not pick up the package, probably because it cost money to send out a driver.

I then send an email to the shipper (overstock. com) and it took replying to 3 more messages before they had the package picked up. Now everyday they email me advertisements.

Also, I learned that you cannot file a claim with UPS, you must contact the shipper. The shipper will not pay because UPS shows the package was delivered. However, they don't show the address the package was delivered to. If the package was expensive enough signature verification would be required. If the shipper is USPS, write "Moved-Return to Shipper" and the postman will pick it up.

50 years ago, you could call UPS or any corporation and a real person would answer. The call might take 60 seconds.

That is no longer true. A computer will answer in two languages, you must listen to all their options. And, after you select an option you must listen to more options and answer more question. Then maybe, you will be allowed to talk to a person after you listen to their advertisements while they place you on hold.
