There's more to language than just the words being spoken. Take "What's up dog?" As an example. You can instinctively pick up dozens of little things that tells what kind of conversation is taking place.
You can guess age, class, situation, aggression, rowdy, fun just on tone. Then you have the person being talked to with another layer of the communication. If it's an ernest way they talk or potentially ironic. So there's a lot going on in an instant for a universal language.

Yeah English is pretty dominant.
it’s use that or another language that everyone has to learn globally, which would sort of be the same as learning English in first place.
Saying that languages throughout history change, Greek, Latin, French, English were all dominant at some point, usually because of learning and religion but also trade.
These days it’s things from Air Traffic, shipping, navigation, computers, social media, travel etc.

I guess in terms of politics but you can't expect everyone to learn the same language, plus with technology, politicians can just translate whatever the others' saying. I typed this and now I'm thinking no...

English is already quite useful with some of that... and if it were even more widespread as to actually be a universal language then yes, would make things much better in that sense
now if you were to try an entire new language to become the universal one... that didn't work at all in the past

Well, it'd be"a" , not "an" (remember, it's the sound, not the letter; we speak of an umbrella" but " a unicorn"), but yes.
Fortunately, we have one: Esperanto. Unfortunately, no one uses it.

Every time that has happened in the past, it has caused great problems and upheaval.
With universal language comes empire and subjugation.
People hate that sort of shit.

Yes, very. It's also very unlikely to see it in my lifetime. Look how far Esperanto has come. No one speaks it.

They tried instituting something like that with the language "Esperanto." It was a blend of various European languages, created in an effort to improve diplomacy, but it never really caught on.

I wished that sign language was universal rather than differant in each country.
