This isn't a small town in the middle of nowhere or a big major city problem.
These kinda of shootings are happening in both big cities and small towns at high rates.
Realistically, you or a loved one can be eating at local restaurant and get gunned down by any psycho who walks in with a gun ready to murder random people by totally unexpected surprise.
It can literally happen at a local super markets, gym, post office, local parks etc by complete surprise.
You just don't get the sense of safety a supposed 1st world country like the U. S. A suppose to have.
It's literally unbelievable we have to live tense like this in the 21th century.

Listen, the point is mass shootings shouldn't have to happen at all especially where kids get murdered in masses in particular safe areas such as schools.
Not even Banana Republics is such an outrageous events occur where innocent people in masses get gunned down for no apparent reason at all.
We just can't live like that at all. The argument about how rare it is its totally irrelevant.

Not really. I dont hang around gun free zones and I carry a gun almost always. If you're worried I'd advise looking at a FN Five-Seven, Ruger 5.7, or Glock 40 loaded with steel core, armor piercing rounds. Keep hollow points in the gun and a spare mag with the hot stuff if needed for something like that. Also Grade 3A body armor is pretty lightweight and if you live in cooler climate easily conceals under a hoodie or jacket. Only thing is it's not stopping rifle rounds but it will stop handgun rounds up to.44 magnum. Most shootings in the country happen with one of the following calibers: .22 LR, .380 ACP, 9mm, .38 Special, none get close to getting through that body armor.
But in all honesty the chances of running into a mass shooter of the variety you see with AR-15's is SO SMALL it doesn't even make up a single percentage of all shootings in the USA annually and less than half a percentage of people killed by guns each year are by the likes of such people. When we look at the numbers in the USA 340-439 people have died a year from AR-15's while 1,700 people died from being stabbed to death. In the USA there are 70% more people beaten to death with fists and 20% more killed with hammers then there are people who die by AR-15's. And STILL the leading cause of deaths by firearms are suicides. What does this tell us? That we have a societal issue, not a gun issue.
The more educated you are the less afraid of such things you are. I used to be like the typical domesticated liberal when I was 19 when I got my first shotgun. I brought it home, put it in the corner before bed, looked at it, got scared and started asking what I had done, then went to the range and read up more and was GLAD I bought a firearm. That same year I proceeded to buy 2 more. Now I've got currently 26 guns and I've owned a total of something in the ballpark of 34, never an issue. Guns saved my life on 2 occasions. And while I don't own and AR and have no desire to it's not because I hate the gun... personally I Just find these things hideous. I mean you look at an AR and then you look at a Gorgeous S&W 686 Plus in all it's glory with the stainless steel gleaming and polished with some gorgeous wood grips... I tell ya there's no comparison.
@update but it IS relevant because it's not the norm. It happens, lots of things happen. Mass shootings happen all through South and Central America too. Saying it shouldn't happen doesn't change anything. I dont get nervous or a bit scarred, which was what you asked. The fact is I have more worry about dying in a car accident everyday by a country mile. If you are worried about mass shootings and not dying in a car accident everyday then what you are experiencing is an emotional or irrational fear. It's not rational to worry about something like that OVER the other threats you face daily. if you do have a gun pointed in your face it's likely from a burglar, robber, gangbanger, etc. I see so much talk about banning AR's but zero talk about destroying the gangs on our streets. You talk about "safe places" like schools but safe places have NEVER existed in all of history. Absolutely NEVER! What has happened is you have been raised and conditioned and tricked into believing safe spaces exist. They NEVER have. 100,000 years ago it was wild animals picking us off one by one, 10,000 years ago it was marauders picking us off one by one, 2,000 years ago it was massive empires enslaving us and killing us, today it's gangbangers, mass shooters, crazy nutjobs, etc. But the point is NEVER have we EVER been truly safe. And the less people that CHOOSE to arm themselves the less people will stop the threat. Schools aren't safe, never have been. It's simply an illusion. Society has changed and if you want mass shootings to stop you must change society. Why aren't we still institutionalizing loonies? That'd be a start.

That's where they didn't even try to cover it up, because the police do not look into it much here. The numbers get padded by calling it a murder if they die on the street, but aggravated battery if they die in the hospital.

No more than I've always been, living in Las Vegas for a few years... gun shots from gang warfare all the time. Random innocent people shot and killed al the time, even kids from that kind of stuff.
The new just likes to focus on mass shootings, not the random people that die in dozens of daily one off's from gangs.
Its like they don't want to focus on the fact that the vast majority of gun deaths (if you remove suicides) is gang warfare... cause of MS-13 and other gangs battling it out.
Lets focus on trying to stop the occasional mass shooting while ignoring the daily onslaught of gangs who don't even have guns legally to begin with.

Oh no it happened by my job, and by my apartment... drive through shoot outs. Through school zones... through nice neighborhoods. Sure most was in bad area's but it often went all over.
This is completely different from gangs. Gangs normally go after each other and is more predictable. Mass shootings are random/unpredictable anytime any place. No correlation here

@bamesjond0069 correct you beat me to it. Mass shootings are not just postal teens with AR's. Most of them are indeed gangland shootings. And not only that but many innocent people DO die every year just for being caught in the cross fire of these shootouts. The one in philly recently was a dude with an AK-47 and it was believed to be GANG related.

Risk and danger is everywhere but life is still happening. Obviously be careful if you can, but unpredictable shit is part of life. I’m not going to stay in the house forever just because of these tragedies. I want to live as much as I can, considering death can happen at any time.
Regardless the shit that’s happening is incredibly sad and heartbreaking. I can only hope a solution is found and enforced to reduce them.
Nope I’m not scared. If it’s my time. It’s my time. Not ganna make it easy though lol, although I fear for the young kids and teenagers. Children in general are under siege. They are unfortunately under a confused generation that don’t know if they are a boy or a girl, constantly being fed info by social media and the media in general that they are not good enough/ pretty enough, then they also are trying hard to fit in with their age group that will ruthlessly make fun of you, which doesn’t help because people these days are ultra soft in their feelings, and on top of that they got to worry about getting shot at school. Sheesh. Might as well call them social soldiers.
Not really, no. Why? Statistics. A sudden mass shooting isn't like a tornado or an outbreak of disease; there are no immediate warning signs (visible to the outside eye, at least), and they're totally preventable (with elaborate social changes no one's willing to make, but still). But they're rare. Here in the US, mass shooting capital of the world, you're STILL more likely to be struck by lightning than killed in a mass shooting attack.
That's small comfort if it DOES happen to you, or someone you care about, of course, but perspective matters. We're still reeling from the LAST "serious crisis that's going to KILL US ALL!"; we don't need another.
I am not afraid of it, honestly. If you live life in fear from what is being thrust in your face constantly by media and people, it will paralyze you from living life normally and doing things that have to be done. Is it a possibility? Yes. Is it likely to happen to you when you go to work the next day? Probably not.
There is always a level of risk when you leave your home. Mass shootings are a possibility, but nowhere near as high as other violent crime, which is the reason I got concealed carry. Shit, just the other day I got followed because of road rage and the guy was on me the entire time. The one day I didn't have my gun in the car. Thankfully the situation didn't go any further with the fuckin punk who just said I was lucky he didn't kill me, but still. If I had my gun and it did escalate, at least I could have a way to stay alive in a dangerous situation.

Not at all. Though these shootings are sad, they only affect a very small number of the population. More people die in car crashes than in shootings, yet very few people are afraid of driving.

In 1996, 35 were killed and 37 injured in a mass shooting in Australia. In 2011, at least 85 people died when a gunman opened fire at an island youth camp in Norway. Let's admit that we cannot stop all shootings, and improve security for our children at schools. ... that may be the best way to protect them.

I do live in fear whenever I leave my apartment. I don't care about me, but my son needs me so he can survive. I am afraid for his safety as well. He cannot defend himself even though he thinks he's a bad ass ninja.

Tell me, what would you think of a law requiring that every potential gun owner have two people willing to swear that they will be responsible and undertake to serve half of any sentence handed down to the person they speak for for any crime involving a firearm they commit? (Including whatever sentence they would have received if they'd survived, of course.) Personal responsibilty, and all that. Most people would find that an easy hurdle.
@goaded If somebody breaks into my house it does not matter if they are armed or not, they are potentially a threat and I do not think the cops will be much help. . Better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it.
Dude, I live on the edge of Detroit. Someone gets shot every few hours within a few miles. Just because it isn't all over the news doesn't mean the threat level hasn't been high already, for decades.
