First, ask why mass violence happens at all: when it's not a political statement, it's usually a case of isolation and social ostracization gone WAY too far for WAY too long. That's obviously not unique to men, but the lack of empathy and support they receive is NOTHING compared to what women get as a matter of course- talk to an FTM transsexual about it; they can tell you.

But this is a more recent phenomenon than that would suggest by itself- why did this not happen before? Well, what's the border between "being a girl" and "being a woman"? Menarche, usually. I should damn well HOPE there's more to it than that, but that serves as a *backup* line of demarcation, at least. What about between being a boy and being a man? Anatomy won't do the job there. And culture provides... nothing. Historically, all around the world, from Bar Mitzvahs to vision quests, there was a ritual POINT where that change happened (women usually had their own, too), but now... nothing.

And so our young men are left to suss out society and their role in it on their own. That wouldn't be TOO bad, except that meanwhile, they're being CONSTANTLY demonized by a society that openly discriminates against them. Natural selection has made men MUCH less risk-averse than women are, because SOMEBODY has to take the risks that build civilization. Even today, men work longer and harder at more dangerous jobs, and the response of society at large is... to blame men for women's comparative lack of success. To tell them it's THEIR fault that women feel threatened (not *are* threatened, mind; globally, every single form of violence still has more male than female victims, but women don't FEEL safe, and that's just as bad), THEIR obligation to change that, and THEIR sacrifice that's not only necessary, but deserved.

Imagine, for a moment, how it would feel to hear a millionaire complaining about high taxes when you're living out of your car and surviving by eating captured bugs. It's no different with civics; hearing scores of women complain about suddenly lacking reproductive rights, as a person who has NEVER had them (and it's not irrelevant, as the wave of laws passed in the wake of Hermesmann V Seyer show), is just the same. But go ahead and TRY to argue that men should have the same rights women do- not even with a Feminist, just a rank-and-file human being: they'll agree completely- until you start explaining what those rights would actually be; then their agreement vanishes. We're simply below consideration, even from other men. Expressing these sentiments, no matter how gently or politely done, gets VICIOUS backlash- I've had rocks and bottles thrown at me, and probably the only reason people have held back on outright punches is fear I'd flatten them.

The picture looks pretty damn grim when you add it all up. Most men simply try to work through it, or mitigate the problem, as best they can; most of them succeed, to some degree, finding SOMETHING of a support network. Those who don't usually turn to self-destructive things; drugs or alcohol or some dangerous activity that gets their adrenaline flowing. But a handful turn their rage outward, and usually only when they can repress it no longer, so it explodes in an orgy of violence.

Women like to hurt people emotionally and socially when upset.
Men like to hurt people physically when upset.

Those things are in our nature and it will never go away, but the symptoms that contribute to it can be reduced.

1. Don't allow access to smart phones or social media to kids. It causes stress that they can't handle yet which builds up over time so something small can trigger a significant reaction.

2. Schools need to stop teaching people that they are inherently bad for being born a male or for being born whatever race. It DOES happen. I've been working in education for over 12 years in California and both of those things happen pretty often.

3. The participation mentality that is promoted in modern society is harmful. Everyone expects the same rewards regardless of their achievements and when it doesn't happen after growing up being taught that it should, it gets more people angry at the world/society.

4, People really aren't mature and responsible enough emotionally at age 18. If politicians would admit THAT, then they could raise the legal age to purchase guns to 21, BUT that means they also need to acknowledge by that same standard that legal voting age should also be increased to 21. That won't happen because democrats actually rely on hiding the truth, convincing inexperienced people that lies are true, etc. so they actually wanted to LOWER the voting age to 16 so they can get even less informed people to support them. If they would stop with the hypocrisy and admit that 18 year olds aren't capable enough to handle certain things yet, they could raise the required age for BOTH firearm ownership AND voting. I'd bet the majority of republicans would agree to it since it makes logical sense, but I am also sure that democrats would never agree to it because they rely on less informed people to stay in power.

5. The magazine size bans are ineffective. people can just carry more magazines. And someday they might actually figure out that shotguns would have a higher fatality rate because they miss less often and cause more damage. If shooters figure that out there will be more deaths than with the rifles.

Toxic male socialization and higher testosterone.

Patriarchy devalues emotional regulation so a lot of grown men can only manage their own feelings at the level of a toddler. Men deserve to be able to learn how to manage their own emotions without it being shamed and stigmatized but that's not the reality of what they get.

Patriarchy also prizes violence and classifies all emotions as weak and inferior... except for anger which according to the patriarchy is magically NOT an emotion?

Violence, especially against women, is also SUPER normalized. Especially in porn. It's actually more common for a female orgasm in a movie to get an R rating than it is for full-on murder and genocide because violence is so present in every for of media and people are just used to seeing it. People are way less used to seeing vulnerable intimacy and pleasure which is really fucked up.

Because men are taught to be alpha, stand up for their beliefs no matter how dumb, to never yield an inch, to fight for what they believe in. The problem is for many this means buying a gun "to be a man" then eventually they feel they have to use it to live up to the ideals society puts on them.

Start with the deplorable lack of recognition for mental illness and extremely limited resources for treatment. Add to that the fact that even if we had excellent mental healthcare, it would be almost exclusively for women and children. Men who ask for help are still perceived as defective. Doing so almost always costs us our love and social lives, our jobs, reduces future job opportunities, likely gets us kicked out of skool and reduces future opportunities there too. Weak men are entirely useless in western society. Furthermore, we’re not permitted to express ourselves. Even expressing the only two feelings we’re permitted, we’re not permitted full expression or we’re “toxic”. All that pent up tension WILL come out. Now we have a person with tension that needs to be released, and in the highly unlikely scenario that there is help available, it’s not for him. He likely has no male role models to help him find healthier outlets, and the women in his life have told him he’s broken just for needing an outlet they can’t provide, or don’t understand to begin with. What’s he going to do when he recognizes more value in his life than the tens of thousands of men who simply kill themselves under all that weight? He’s going to hurt someone. That’s what. He might hurt lots of people. He might even eventually get around to killing himself like we all want, but not until he’s sure he’s not the only one suffering.
That’s not even the bad news. The bad news is that we’ve created a society in which we can’t do anything about it even if we wanted to. Weak men are a disease, and teaching men how to not be weak is “toxic”. What’s left?

You guys and males typically have a natural tendency towards violence and it needs to be quashed by social values and frankly fathers in the household and responsible mothers in order to raise the future generation. Do you notice all of these mass shootings typically are from people who are extremely mentally ill come from single-parent household and don’t have a strong male figure in there lives to teach them on the way they should go. I think it's very symptomatic on how men tend to handle feelings of depression, hopelessness and their relation to suicide. For example, women tend to attempt suicide more but men have a higher success rate because their methods are often drastic.

To me, mass shootings are just an alternative to suicide : you just feel so hopeless about life, so disgusted, that you just take a drastic measure to attempt to end or change that. Not that mass shooting frequently end with the shooter shooting themselves.

Add to that the fact that men are naturally more aggressive on average for biological reasons so that makes them more likely to do violent things like mass shootings while women would be more passive or reserved on average.

You could also argue that, in general, it's much less likely that men feel like they can talk to someone about their feelings, or that society does not care about their feelings or even shame them about their feelings so it leads to more emotion bottling, which is the best way for a violent outburst to happen.

There are probably other factors I forgot, but I think it sums it up pretty well.

Mass shootings are overwhelmingly perpetrated by YOUNG males. It is well known that the adolescent brain takes a while to mature, especially the parts of the brain that have to do with judgement and logic. And it is well known that males mature later than females. This why guys under 26 have to pay higher car insurance rates, because they get belligerent on the road, and have more road rage and cause more accidents, than those who are older.
I read one proposal to absolutely ban gun sales to males under the age of 27 or so. This makes sense to me, because we're talking about putting guns in the hands of people who are unable to make the judgement that shooting up a school or a parade is a BAD idea, and that it is unacceptable to kill innocent people!

Men are going to use a gun. Like women actually try to commit suicide at higher rates. They just do things like cutting themselves, taking pills, etc.

Men will just get a gun and blow their brains out. When it comes to blaming other groups, becoming anti-social, etc. They are going to the same thing, get a gun and shoot the people who they claim are messing up their lives. Because they feel like the world has pushed them out and they are doomed to this lonely miserable existence.

You will never, ever stop or even reduce the violence without reversing multiple cultural trends in the country, ranging everywhere from broken homes/absentee parents (especially fathers), the labeling and indoctrinated tribalism being pushed in schools, obsession with social media and digital lives over the physical, and the mental health doctrine that relies and focuses pretty much exclusively on medications. These aren't things that a politician can just vote on and make happen overnight, and many openly oppose addressing any of these things either because it's a big product of their policies, or they're profiting from them in the first place. Until something drastic does take a turn, we can expect this to continue even if slowly fading out over the course of at least half of a generation.

I've addressed this before but I think it has a lot to do with the biological differences between men and women.

There's a reason poison is commonly known as the woman's choice of weapon. It's more subtle and less forceful in nature.

Men at the extremes of the spectrum are more likely to lash out at others and generally inflict harm, even to themselves. It's why men commit suicide at almost twice the rate that women do. It's why more men are in jail than women. It's why men are victims/perpetrators of violent crimes more often than women.

Put simply it's a matter of doing rather than saying. Men are more likely act and they're more likely to project it. Not all men ofc, just at the extremes.

Have you ever heard of Montauk? There was a secret government lab there where they'd grab kids off the street (usually, the ones you see on milk bottles), take them there and do horrific things to them so they could brainwash them and give them at least one alternate personality that they could program to be a killing machine if and when it was needed. I think a lot of males are experiencing a loss of internal purpose in life.

They are told that they are either inherently bad people or at least complicit in the supposed male cabal causing the mass suffering of women and the suffering of minorities if they are white. Many of which probably got fucked over in some sort of institution for a reason that was out of control. It's also entirely possible that they are total losers who was never able to be completely socialized and this was the best way to get his name out there.

I've said it before, it's just a subset of the male suicide epidemic.

Men in the west have been highly devalued by recent social changes, and some of them see only a future of joyless enslavement. Most end it quietly, some violently.

Hopeless and mental illness.
