I don't know. I have several trans friends and would rather die than intentionally deadname or use the wrong pronouns.

I've accidentally misgendered newly out trans and enby friends, and honestly I take it harder than they do. Because I don't want to be That Guy that makes them feel bad, but they know I don't mean it and they see me correct it immediately.

It doesn't take a lot of effort to adjust. Elliot has been so graceful during this whole deal, he's really inspirational.

Often it feels weird to have a cis friend insist that it’s such a big deal. Usually it’s enough to correct yourself and say you’re sorry, not much etiquette needed. Though mostly because I care deeply about my friends and I am still learning to be a better friend and put more effort and energy into remembering important things about the people I love.

And people who feel genuine guilt just because they know someone’s deadname and of course they can’t get it out of their heads because that’s not how memory works. I was worried about this kind of overcorrection which ends up being destructive or self-centering. Glad that you have awareness around that!
