Why did Uvalde cops sit in the hallway for over an hour before going into the class room to neutralize shooter?

Footage was released recently showing that armed police were on the scene minutes after the shooting started but after getting shot at pulled back and waited for over an hour before engaging the shooter. Mind you while they were in the hallway they were receiving 911 calls from students inside the class room, and also detaining parents who wanted to go in themselves to save their kids.

I would assume that lack of experience, poor communication and lack of reconnaissance is always to blame when so much time is wasted. There are many shootings where the police is waiting for the SWAT team because the shooter has more than just a simple pistol and has an assault rifle or smg to spray down on everyone. The cops are always very poorly equiped to such situations. Which is why I think they should have fully fledged equipment in their mobile station to counter such situations. But to my knowledge most police cars don't have such equipment.

The first responding police that showed up minutes after the shooting started had rifles. Also active shooter doctrine states to find and eliminate threat ASAP, search and destroy mission. Many cop cars carry what they call a patrol rifle which is just a fancy term for an AR-15 style rifle.

There is one small problem. The initial responding police (7 of them) arrived minutes after the shooting before any sort of orders from above were issued in that way, and they did not go in, active shooter training and doctrine states and teaches that you go to eliminate the shooter ASAP. They did not follow protocol or training.

I don't doubt that most cops are worthless cowards. They are not willing to do their job if it means they are taking a risk. After all, a cops life is more important than the lives of 50 children.

Piss poor training and a cowardly command structure. Police maybe very flawed in lots of respects. But active shooter tactics are very clear you go in and engage asap with who you have. As many active shooters kill themselves at the first sign of resistance.

It makes no sense that any police force would do this, especially ones with ties to the community and students in the school, and especially one which had been trained to respond to active shooters in schools.

I have a hard time believing any trained police force could be that incompetent. But if it's going to be like that, we definitely shouldn't be disarming law-abiding firearm owners.

There is a lot of blame to go around. I have to wonder if the Uvalde cops were real cops and not just "school police". The chief of the school police was not a cop. He was an ex-politician who was appointed to the position possibly as a political favor.

It wasn't until the highly trained members of the Border Patrol showed up that anything of consequence was done.
