Anyone you’ve known personally or in your town?

In my city there’s no he case of missing woman Heather Elvis.

Basically, she was a young early 20s woman working at a bar and grill and started an affair with the maintenance guy who was married and in his 30s. His wife found out about the affair and bullied and threatened her to leave him alone. One night in the wee hours of the morning, Heather was asked to meet him at a boat docking area called Peachtree Landing about 4 miles from where I live. She went and was never seen again. Her body was never found but there was enough evidence to convict the guy *and* his wife for kidnapping and murdering her. They are both still in prison.

I’ve seen her sister around town several times but I don’t know her family personally, but I know many people who do.

Anyways, there's this one disgusting act of crime which occured in a small district in my city, Karachi. This district, mind you, was much like the favelas you may see in Rio de Janeiro - meaning illegally built closely packed small houses on top of another, where people knew each other well. Naturally, these neighborhoods were mostly always occupied by the poorer masses.

There was this one child who lived here, a little 5-7 year old girl. She had gone down to one of the grocery shops near her house to buy some sweets - a shop owned by a well known friend of her father's, might I add. According to the sources, the middle aged man kidnapped her, took her to his apartment and kept her there in captivity for over the span of a few weeks; raping her and then drugging her so that she doesn't make any noise. Sources say that he kept her hidden under his bed where she lay.

Naturally, her parents were worried sick about their daughter missing for days but no one knew where she had gone. After 2-3 weeks, the girl's body was found buried in the trash heap outside the man's home who had kidnapped her. Upon investigation, some people claimed they saw the rapist dumping her dead body in the trash heap in the middle of the night but were too scared of him to say anything. The man was arrested but according to the news, is still undergoing investigation.

I don’t really follow “true crime”. So i don’t know if there are caveats regarding what is and what isn’t true crime. Forgive me if i miss the mark.
In Kalamazoo, Michigan, an Uber driver named Jason Dalton made national headlines for going on a shooting “rampage” with passengers in his car.
When i was a very young man, a young, gay man was killed in my hometown. Lots of people were questioned because he was known to attend parties with high skool kids, buy booze for them and provide marijuana occasionally. He was actually a good dude. There was some scuttlebutt about him being mildly inappropriate with a guy or two, but nobody got bent about it because he was a steady hook-up. Booze hook-up, not sex hook-up. Well, he was killed in the back room of a local business, and rumor was he’d been tortured before he was killed. To my knowledge, no arrests were ever made. It’s a small town. Everyone knows something and someone knows everything. I’m certain to this day the investigation was burned because everyone knew he was gay.

Famous? - no, I don't think so

Bigger ones? - yeah, we had a shooting a few months ago (really rare for germany), a few years ago a man drove with his car into people, run away and got caught by police

Ones I know personally? - yeah, my moms work colleagues daughter got murdered by her husband and left on the side of the highway two years ago, she was found later and identified cause of her tattoos and the 13. Year old boy, of our fav döner-store owner, got stabbed last year

1/2 a block up the street is the Murder House.

Guy murdered his girlfriend, her teen daughter, and his wife when the wife found out. He put them under a piece of plywood, shot in the head one shot each.

Sheriff came out for a Wellness visit and smelled the bodies.

Husband had fled to the Grand Teton Mountains, they found his abandoned car, but have never found him.

The city I live in is in the top ten for homicide nationwide despite not even being close to that by population. The real crime is so much police attention is given to the single digits percent of these murders done by white people and the almost all the rest being black on black crime that can’t be talked about and thus not policed. If the city actually cared about black men, it would get over its PC stigma and start acting like black lives actually did matter for a change. But as we all know, white Democrats only pay attention to blacks during election season or when they have their Klan hoods on.

I don’t know if you’re talking about a specific show or podcast, but my town had one of the most prolific serial killers in US history back in 2012.

Israel Keyes picked up a girl at her job at a coffee hut and did horrible things to her before he killed her. He only got caught because the city raised like quarter million for ransom/reward and he got greedy. After he was caught he alluded to kill caches and victims all across the United States. They’re still trying to figure out how many victims he had… he killed for over a decade and they estimate it could be anywhere from 7 to well over 30. Worst part is they were completely at random. Male, female, old, young, in a group, alone, etc. He wasn’t on law enforcements radar at all. Truly one of the evilest people in modern history.

I think there was a dexter-inspired murder the next city over. Basically what happened is that he would lure men off of tinder into a tarp-covered kill room. Apparently, he offed one guy with an ax to the torso, and another guy fought him and escaped but said nothing out of embarrassment. Finally, a third guy fought and escaped also, but had the sense to report it and he was caught.

He was a deranged filmmaker who made a pretty popular Star Wars fan film, the killer I mean. Freaky stuff. You never know who's a threat, so be ready to fight if you need to in my opinion.

Familiar with the Heather Elvis case I'm in Florence. Shame she looked like a nice young girl. Year or so before that there was britany Drexel. They finally caught person who did that.
Years ago when I was a teenager. There was a serial killer peewee gaskins. He killed several people. Picked me up hitchhiking a couple of times but I survived. I could tell he was a weirdo and got out of the car. One of the things he would do was pick up hitchhikers it turned out. He even killed someone on death row that had killed someone that murdered someone from murrels inlet parents. He was a strange one. Etv television has a documentary on him

None in my town of any real significance but in the county (Pembrokeshire) we had the coastal path murders by serial killer John William Cooper in the late 80s early 90s. One interesting fact is he appeared on the tv game show bullseye just weeks before killing.

My friend from high school was murdered by her abusive boyfriend then shot his own dad. His dad survived but she did not. The boyfriend did all of this right in front of their one month old son. It happened in my County too. It made the local news and Press Enterprise.

Over the last 40+ years, I have lived in a number of places. I lived for almost 3 years in Newnan Ga. There was a famous murder there back in the 1940s that had a book and TV Movie made about it. I have walked in some of the places discussed in that movie.

Everyday the planet is filled with new corporate and consumer waste. Many psychiatric wards make patients lives worse without ever getting better.

but there's been plenty of true crime and conflict, as I've lived in the core of some cartel lands

I just don't think it is internationally or world wide famous as stand alone events or cases

Well... there IS the case of Christopher Coleman.

There's also the case of William "Bill" Holmes": wanna-be arsonist who killed himself in the first arson he committed (didn't leave himself an escape plan after the fire was set and it was about 20 feet to the ground from where he was)

Although I live in a big city, it’s thankfully rather boring, crime wise. Maybe the most known case was a famous car tuner that was entangled in some money laundering/ book cooking scheme. His body was ultimately found in South Africa.

Sure is. Over 30 years later people still remember what happened and even people who migrated here and people who were born after the murder happened all hear about it. It was one of the worst crimes to ever happen where I live

Yes there was an art heist at a museum. Millions of dollars of art was stolen. It is said that the paintings were stashed at an old furniture store that was at the top of the street where I grew up. The paintings were never recovered.

Unfortunately we’ve had a serial killer here before but thank goodness he was caught. He probably had about 10 known victims and several we’ll never know about. He really had the city on edge for months before they caught him.

Nah but we had last year, similar to Halloween's Michael Myers, a crazy guy from the mental hospital in town just stabbing a random passerby in the stomach. Weird part is, he was allowed to walk through town unsupervised, he is free now again
