Seen a video and kind of recognized a pattern. People burning the American Flag, or veterans burning their uniform, and conservatives bitching about it, calling it treason, saying if you don’t like America leave…. yet these dudes are the ones actually fighting for the country. The ones burning their uniforms are the ones that served. If you’re so patriotic go serve in the military. Our Armed Forces are seeing how shitty our government is, and burning flags them damn selves. They served SO you can burn that flag if you choose. You talk about freedom of speech so much? That’s freedom of speech. What are you conserving? All these conservatives are conserving is a 1950’s mentality. Gay, black, hispanic, asian… all should be separated from the whites. You love capitalism so much because you had the opportunity they didn’t. Your schools are well funded. Not mostly black schools. You got a sink or swim mentality because you ain’t been at the bottom of the ocean and had to swim up. Why is it so horrible to give the extra assist to people you kept down? It’s like me dragging you to the bottom of the ocean, putting weights on you, keeping you down there, then taking those weights off, allowing you to fight your way up, but getting all pissy when asked to be helped to the surface with you since you did this.

You're kind of all over the place here- yes, it's mostly nonveterans getting upset over flag burnings; that's only logical. Only a truly free country would allow that, so in a weird way, it's the highest form of respect one can pay those who (militarily or otherwise) struggled to keep it that way. So far, so good.

But that has nothing to do with racism. Why do you assume that anyone who wants equal treatment is racist? That's the exact opposite of bigotry. Hell, my ancestors never oppressed ANYBODY; they came here from Ireland, and saw the "No Irish need apply" and "We want no Irish here" signs firsthand. My great-grandfather actually STOLE one of those signs; we found it going through his stuff after he died. My ancestors faced discrimination in this country FAR worse than what the blacks or Hispanics do today, and overcame it; not with massive government bailouts or legal discrimination against others, but by having the guts to take on the bosses that NOBODY else did. They died at Blair Mountain; they died in Ludlow. They took on the Pinkertons and the US Army, and I doubt that even one out of a hundred Americans has heard word ONE about it.

Now, I'm not saying the others should have to go through the same horrors to earn social equality, but you don't GET social equality by demanding unequal treatment. You don't become strong by having everything handed to you, and you don't earn respect that way, either. My people DID have to struggle up from the bottom, and they DID. You're not asking for people who did that to be granted the same privileges; you're asking for people who *didn't* to be handed a reward for failing. Then you ask the people who never did anything wrong why they object to being punished for succeeding.

And then you wonder why conservatives disagree with you.

It is funny. I think about the Kaepernick thing. Colin was sitting on the bench when the whole thing started. He would just sit on the bench while the anthem played. Everything was cool. Then a military vet, got him on the phone. The vet was offended. He said, "If you want to protest, you should come out with your team and take a knee.".

Colin acknowledged the vet's concerns and complied.

All the racists went nuts and all of a sudden it was a controversy.

Colin and that vet have been friends ever since.

Talk to anyone who swerved in Vietnam then tell me burning flags are ok! I really think you need to come to grips with the fact that flag is folded and given to soldiers wives when they are killed it battle! There are other ways to prove a point , you shouldn’t disrespect those who fought for America’s Freedom!

A lot of veterans are disillusioned by the government and rightly so. The care they get at the VA was a disgrace. President Trump did a lot to improve it but it still needs work. I think people are sick of seeing young people getting sent all over the world to fight in wars we have no stake in. And when they get their legs blown off the government does not want to know them.

You burn flags in the military but only in special occasions like if it is damaged and it is done in ceremony. You don't just go around burning flags willy nilly.
