Why do evangelicals think that if they are not stopping abortion and gay marriage then they are being persecuted for their beliefs?

They seem to get in their head that if they are not enforcing their beliefs on the rest of us non christians then that somehow is us persecuting them and making them marry gay people in their cults I mean churches.
