Yeah that would be a waste of money. why pay for something that we aren't really using?

No its not pointless. even if there was never a fire it doesn't mean there might not be one in the future so we should still pay just in case.

My fire department has some stories 🤣
Several years back, on Thanksgiving, they reported to a fire caused by deep frying a turkey gone wrong. The turkey went right through the roof & the house caught fire. The house has to be torn down because of how much damage was done. They have at least one fire like this every year during the holiday season.
There was a restaurant that paid off the health inspector & the kitchen was so filthy that it eventually caught fire because of all the grease piled up.
There are plenty of reasons to keep the fire department around.

Its like insurance… you wouldn't ask if it were pointless to have auto insurance if you've never been in an accident. Your fire department is the same, sure your property taxes pay for it, (so only home owners are really paying that tax anyway) but none the less, you STILL hope you never have to use it.
