If you don’t accept the results of an Election, should you be allowed to run?

The problem is if 10 million people believe the results are invalid (or at least claim to believe it, knowing no one can prove they are lying), in a democracy those 10 million people require representation just as anyone else would. The primary process is supposed to be how those 10 million are outnumbered by the 60 million (or whatever) that accept such results, but instead with microtargeting a candidate can tell only the 10 million that want to hear it what they want to hear, and then say something else - even the opposite - to other people. This is why I always advise people not to share cases of republicans contradicting themselves without full context first. That's how microtargeting works. Like with the Herchel Walker thing, the fact that he paid for an abortion is much more likely to be shared among those on the left who are much more likely to have people who follow them that are center left. Those people may only see that he paid for an abortion and thus conclude that he is pro choice. The far right wingers who have no interaction with the left accounts, however, will never see it and go on assuming he is pro life.
It's no different to allowing flat earthers to fly or travel, or antivaxxers to use hospitals.
Stupid people still need to be cared for and accommodated in a democracy. It's why all democracies, historically speaking, eventually fuck up and restart.
You cannot "clean" the voter pool. But as it becomes more and more dumb and divided, it achieves less and less. All until you've got more people fighting the system than running it and war or revolution occurs.
It's why there are no true democracies, but various applications of democracies since WW2. But even these are coming apart as resources and prices become more important.
Sure, denying a election results isn't a crime... although personally I think even convicts should be allowed to run, even while in prison.
I think if you’ve been impeached, twice. That is saying enough.
Found innocent twice.
The 1st time on the account of the first one was on the account of the evidence proving the crime was committed by vice President Joe Biden, never Trump who simply asked questions about it.
The 2nd time was on the account of the alleged "crime" itself being an blatantly unconstitutional violation of the 1st amendment, in addition to clear video evidence proving Trump's innocence regardless.
Seriously the congress that voted to impeach him are the ones who can't read the limits of their law and or even look at the video taped evidence proving the ridiculousness of their own charges.
Both acts have forever de-legitimized congress's impeachment powers having proven they are little more than a vote of no-confidence.
@monorprise Money and want for power accomplishes amazing things. Politics is a big game.
@dustybiker Indeed, Joe Biden's family made quite a lot of money off the Ukraine as Vice President.
Trump was impeached by democrats for asking questions about the money going to the former vice president's family from Ukraine via the energy company Burisma. The investigation of which was sabotaged by Joe Biden himself in conditioning U. S. Aid on the firing of investigator.
So yes Money talks both in the Ukraine and here in the USA.
@monorprise We both know why Trump was really impeached. Twice.
@dustybiker Clinton impeached too, the only difference is Clinton's impeachment actually involved a some kind of crime.
Neither of the Trump Impeachments even claimed he had committed any kind of crime.
With the 1st one only involving the investigation of a corruption/extortion crime by former vice president Joe Biden, One of the lesser schemes of many we now know Joe Biden was apparently collecting money for.
That said none of them were convicted. And the crime-less nature of Trump's impeachment clearly established for all of history that impeachment is now purely a political rather than criminal act.

So you still believe that a country who had a reality TV star as the president and shut down people's businesses lying saying millions would die of a virus causing the worst inflation we have ever seen in our lives is gonna let any of us pick the president? Lol your vote goes right in the trash. The big elections are a selections. They put who they want in there. If it was real they would not run with Biden as president they would have pushed Kamala but they need Biden in there to act like he is stupid to cause division same as they needed Trump in there to say what he said to cause division. It is a fake simulated reality and once you stop playing their game you can finally win and winning doesn't mean a fake actor on TV that you like became president. Winning means stop being a statist stop participating and stop believing in this fake lying system.
The people you don't see on your TV. Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Kissingers and a bunch of other families you may or may not have heard of and I am sure the ones at the very top are people who's names we have never even heard of before. Donald Trump went to WWE to learn how to cut a wrestling promo then he used that to cut promos for the 2016 election years later. Dr. Oz a TV doctor running in politics too I mean come on now. It works out though because these people are just actors on the world stage putting on an act is what they do best. This is why nothing ever usually gets better no matter who is president and even if it does it still gets worse like is happening now. They gave us stimulus checks like the big heroes in 2020 now they are taking all that money back and then some and putting the middle class in poverty and the dirt poor are gonna be even worse off. All by design the New World Order.
That would be totally illegal. No one is under any obligation to "accept the results of an election". And you'd need a replacement candidate in the Georgia gubernatorial election.
You're going full-on Communist these days, Odd.
Sure let’s do that of course we would have to get completely new people in office democrats denied the 2000 election the 2004 election and 2016 election and there going to question the 2022 mid term election
republicans denied the 2020 election. So nobody in the United States would be allowed to run for any kind of office.
Democrats denied election results first by the way.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/OjnX4IUt_eohttps://www.youtube.com/embed/XX2Ejqjz6TALet's ignore for a moment that ''elections'' are a show only -
If ''I'' don't have trust in 'my' country's electoral system, then I don't see a point in participating in it.
What my hosting country does instead: each 8 or so years (in average, since 1932 there's a military ''coup d'état''
One can argue if ''January, 6th'' qualifies for an attempted one - considering that only rabble and a circus costume were involved.
Are we talking about the 2016 denial and the subsequent 2 - 3yr investigation via plentiful resources? Or, the 2020 election denial that did not result in any investigation, and mainstream condemnation?
We seem to elect people who don't accept the result of an election all the time.
Frankly with the way a lot of states run their 'election' its impossible to know the results of almost any election short of a landslide that doesn't depend upon any or all of them states.
If you prevent someone from running because they think you rigged the election… aren’t you proving them right? At some point we need to de-escalate this conflict before we don’t even have a country to fight over.
Hell, no. Not without evidence the election was stolen. I mean NC-09 was stolen (by the Republican), not accepting that is OK. It's up to the courts to decide, not individuals.
i think some rules should apply. any natural born citizen should be able to run but only if their grandfathers were also natural born citizens
Trump won though, it seems suspicious that when polls shut down in several states they had Biden in the lead only after they opened back up
Yes, it bugs me how Liberals denied the results of the 2016 election.
If being wrong were a disqualification no one could run.
Well, that's half of the DNC gone with that.
I would also add that if you commit treason and want to establish a theocratic dictatorship then they deserve a traitors death following conviction.
Everyone has the right to their opinion, especially if the y are correct.
The USA is not a democracy. I laugh at every single American because of the leaders the elect..
Nope. Anyhoo, politics is the root of all evil.
Simples...
I think you could get two votes. Your wife and mother , and yourself , that would be it
The 2020 election was a fraud
You mean like Al Gore?
Lol. He never accepted it. He did like any other candidate would do and fought it as far as he could. Any candidate who doesn't do that is irresponsible. I don't blame him and I don't blame Trump. EVERY candidate has an army of lawyers on standby. That's the way it should be. It's too important and too expensive to do otherwise.
Florida was a close race. Gore's people kept asking for recount after recount. Each count was slightly different. Gore was hoping that eventually he would get one that went in his favor. That never happened.
I knew someone who was on the election board in the highest contested county. He said the poll workers were PISSED as hell over all the recounts. Gore's people kept coming up with all these crazy "rules". They were trying to read the mind of voters instead of just accepting the ballot.
EVERY election has invalidated votes. It's actually a fairly high percentage. There are rules which everyone agrees on well ahead of time. If a vote is not done properly, it gets invalidated.
One big issue in the news was the "butterfly ballot". I've voted for 45 years in three different states. I've used butterfly ballots many times. Anyone can use one. Plus the ballots were agreed on by both sides.
Again, Gore exhausted every legal option, then conceded. Trump exhausted every legal option, then tried several illegal ones. Up to and including a violent mob attack on the Capitol. It's not something anyone can reasonably "both-sides".
And 2020 wasn't even slightly close, compared to 2000 or almost any other year, for that matter.
There were 19,000 spoiled butterfly ballots in Florida. That's a huge number compared to the less than a thousand vote difference. But even so, with a genuine moral claim to the win, Gore accepted the legal result. Trump and the Republican party is doing the opposite, and preparing to screw over the voters next time.
@goaded
That's totally your opinion.
And if you really believe Trump advocated a violent attack then you're an idiot.
2020 wasn't even close? You gotta be kidding. It was probably the closest election in our history. There wasn't just one close state, there were several.
As for 19000 spoiled ballots, it depends on who's count you want to use. But like I said there are always large numbers of invalidated ballots. Besides, the Dems themselves spoiled large numbers of ballots with all that "chad" nonsense, picking at them with fingernails, and generally handing them so much.
One thing you also seem to forget is that Florida can determine the winner any way they want. They don't even have to let people vote if they don't want to. Personally I think the states should quit letting people vote for president.
You know Trump knew his supporters were armed, right?
"2020 wasn't even close? You gotta be kidding. It was probably the closest election in our history. There wasn't just one close state, there were several."
Uh, hello, if it comes down to one state, it's closer than if several states' results have to be overturned! 2000 was less than 1000 votes difference in the deciding state, 2020 was tens or hundreds of thousands in half a dozen states.
"One thing you also seem to forget is that Florida can determine the winner any way they want."
And that is an example of how Republicans are planning to overturn future elections they lose. Will Florida's legislature decide that there's no need for further elections to decide the legislature, or Governor, too? Just stay in power forever.
@goaded
"You know Trump knew his supporters were armed, right?"
So? Of coarse they were armed. There were armed protests in DC before he ever ran for office.
As for being close:
1.35%
0.31%
0.24%
1.16%
0.63%
All of those were important states. Four out of five went to Biden. In three of those states, Biden didn't even get a majority of votes (because the conservative votes was split).
In two more states, Biden had less that 50.06% and 50.62%.
So yea, it was an extremely close race. I don't know why anyone would think it would not be contested. And those are the official votes. That doesn't even count any shenanigans going on, which could very easily have tipped the scales in Trump's direction.
"As for being close: 1.35%, 0.31%, 0.24%, 1.16%, 0.63%"
Compared to 0.009% in one single state. No contest.
You don't seem to think it mattered that the Democratic vote was split by 19,000 butterfly votes in 2000. That was 20x the final vote difference, and almost certainly would have been in Gore's favour. But Gore recognised that they weren't fraud, accepted that only valid votes could be counted for him, and his legal recourses ran out.
There's nothing wrong with contesting results legally. But Trump lost every one of his legal challenges and moved on to fraud and forgery to try to steal the presidency with "alternate" slates of electors (and co-conspiritors in Congress), and when that didn't work, attacked the Capitol to delay the count so he would remain president. Pay attention to the facts that have come out.
Hell yes
Yeah agreed. Just wanted to throw a “what if” out there.
Of course not.
