I am not bothered by the intent of the legislation and what it hopes to achieve, but voted "No" for 2 reasons and I want to be clear as to why.
That said, I'd just as soon recommend that people who want to feel safer from harassment in the UK carry a non-lethal weapon like pepper spray or a taser. Those would give the immediate justice warranted in those situations. I don't know about weapons laws in the UK though.
But, there is a basic fact of life: Do not fuck with people if they can make you regret it.
If the potential victims of sexual harassment were armed in some way, potential harassers would think twice. That's more effective than any legislation.
Mostly, I agree with your answer, I don't see whistling as sexual harassment and most cat calling comments, even if a bit obscene, I can ignore. However, if someone is blocking my path to the extent that I can't pass or walk around, rises to whole different level and maybe jail time would be appropriate.

If it is true sexual harassment, not freedom of speech. Cat calling is annoying but falls under freedom of speech to me.
That should not be considered a crime, however the additional parts of the law, where he blocks someone so they can't move, or follows them (stalks) I support them going to jail for that, as that is not freedom of speech, that crosses into fear where for all anyone knows, they are trying to find where you live or wait for a opportunity to rape her when no one is around.

Okay I voted yes, because there is line at some point that skirt stalking laws... so, it all depends on the actual law. In the state of California where I live, certain types of harassment are considered misdemeanor and in extreme cases felonies. But it's like $2,000 dollar fine or 6 months in jail for a misdemeanor...
But the intent of this law would be to further define what the difference is between what we consider sexual harassment, actually crosses the line to becoming sexual misconduct, but does not reach the bar of sexual assault.

I watched the Stillwater movie and there was a scene where they let the girl out of prison for 24 hours to do and go wherever she wants, as long as she doesn't leave the country, and I had to google whether this was actually true, because we would never allow such a thing in the US for violent offenses.
My dad said 30 years ago they used to do similar work programs for people serving time for minor crimes, but I don't know if this is still a thing

I saw a documentary where an Indian guy was in prison for burning his wife alive and they let him have a job teaching child, and the parents, even women, weren't even bothered by his crime. Some countries also let people out of insane asylums for the weekend. My teacher said he was hitchhiking in New Zealand and got picked up by a man who was on leave from the looney bin. But such a thing would never work in the U. S., for the exact reason you said about the rapist. Also, in the U. S. the whole point of prison is to punish people and deprive them of outside privileges. Though with what the Democrats are doing with violent criminals, I won't be surprised if we implement such a policy soon

In France it's a mix of both, the prison is made to punish them (what French people and police want) but the judge and social worker are for giving criminals benefit of the doubt and privilege. Me too kind of. I hated that era when we had power cuts every week for multiple days, especially when we had to work in the dark. And when our power goes out we don't have hot water for some reason. I don't know how you make laws without jail time being the penalty, but that's for lawmakers to figure out.

When I worked in security in my early 20s. Sexual harassment by women daily was part of the job. Infact, ask your local security/bouncer and he'll tell you how common it is for men in certain professions to be sexually harassed.

I always got harassed in the way described since I was a little girl, it would be nice to see something actually being done about this. Now as an adult, I kind of just keep it pushing, but it made me super uncomfortable as a kid growing up. I feel like if they were given the opportunity to change and take some sort of classes, then that would hopefully be enough. (The ones who haven't been charged for actual crimes like rape, molestation, etc..)

I don't know the details of the court case, or if this was the best decision or not, but he claims he did it so the criminal could be supervised for the rest of his life, implying rehabilitation. I don't know if that's the right call or not, but I don't know the details of the 2006 court case, either.
This looks like a 1984-like disaster waiting to happen. You cannot hope to effectively enforce such a law unless you have cameras *everywhere* on top of having to throw a lot of innocent people in prison just because they happen to be going the same direction a woman is going because they just want to go home.

Laws about sexual harassment are so biased in India that it is better to mentally eliminate girls when outside.
That sounds like a law based on someones opinions and personal feelings which can often be influenced by irrationalities and personal bias. It is a law that could be easily abused. Imagine having a law that says you can't look at other people.
It's a dumb law that will become a nightmare to enforce unless the violation is obvious and likely a physical assault, which there are already laws for.
2 years? Nahh. That's a bit much. The punishment should fit the crime. Make it like 10 to 20 days in the clink.

I am curious as to know what you are willing to bring under sexual harassment. The obvious things like rape, child/adult at home/work molestation are already there.
