First of all, the United States is still in reality the first maritime power in the world, the Chinese navy is not yet equal to the American navy neither in terms of technology nor in terms of tonnage.

However, it is true that the Chinese navy has evolved a lot and has a larger number of ships than the US.

Secondly, one should always be wary of this kind of statement from the military because they always want more money to be spent on the army and nothing is better than a rival to justify and get more money.

Note that it doesn't mean that the US Navy doesn't suffer from shortcomings, the famous historian Paul Kennedy has already talked about it himself, but the Chinese Navy also has its weaknesses which are actually more important than the US Navy.

It's good to think like an underdog because cockily assuming the US Military is "the best" or "invincible" leads to disastrous mistakes & defeats.

The Chinese, like many others, have been stealing American (and Allied) tech for decades now.

It's no surprise they can surpass the Americans in numbers of soldiers and weapons but quantities alone won't give 'em victory, especially since Chinese products are built with poor quality materials & labor.

What a ridiculous article and you have a very poor understanding of naval warfare.

What’s the last war the Chinese won that want being fought against their own people?

What is the operational history of China’s navy? The US goes back to Britain and the Age of Sail. America has largely enjoyed naval superiority in the world since the 1940s.

And the US navy has been ACTIVE. They are well experienced and have fought multiple battles, multiple wars, successfully.

You can’t say the same for the Chinese.

They don’t have anywhere near the number of of nuclear subs that the US does. And what subs they do have are kept close to home in Chinese territory lest they risk losing a sub—which is not easily replaced, especially when you don’t have that many experienced sailors who can even pilot and man a sub.

These things take time. Experience. Battles. Long term recruitment and training.

None of which the Chinese have accomplished.

Yes with 20 aircraft carriers the US navy can't match China, get real.

If a US Admiral said this its because he wants more money from the Navy for Congress. Its a tried and tested strategy for the US military. The Airforce did the same with the "Russian bomber gap". Basically they pretended in the 50s that Russia had more and superior bombers when they didn't, they knew they didn't, they had spy missions over Russia. The Russians were happy to pretend they did during mayday fly overs they had Russian bombers circle so it appeared they had more.

To consider present situation is yes, If you say like ukraine, china can win USA now but USA copy chinese technology soon or later. Perhaps USA will win if they solve their debt and Chinese military is not desiged for the world not like USA is for the world.

The Soviet Union collapsed when it gave over to the military too much. The USA is doing the same (something like 70% of it's military tech is out of date/over budget).

China managed to survive past both, and it's star is on the ascendency. But even China will eventually give over to another. Probably Turkey, or one of the Middle Eastern states.
