I am half Venezuelan and half German but was born in Germany. I look full Venezuelan but when people ask what my ethnicity is and I tell them they reply with "you sound very german" and I said yeah I was born here. Just because I sound German doesn't mean I'm not part Venezuelan or in touch with that side of me.
Would you be offended? Why do people say this?

Were I younger, I'd be offended because I wouldn't take my surroundings into account as much as I do now. I wouldn't look around and see that the stereotypical German. But now, I'd probably joke around about this.
I see this as an issue of nationalism and pride in a nation to be mostly gone. Were it to still exist you'd be offended that you were not seen as German, since Germany is your birth country, not Venezuela.

I eat a lot of Venezuelan food and go back there several times a year. I also get people that can't believe I'm half German because I look very south American
How is it not? You speak fluent German, you know it's nuances, and you look nothing like a German person. You being born in Germany is literally just the cherry on top.
