Well, in my country, i think education system is terrible but even 10 years olds can name more than 50 countries easly. Thats why im questioning the reality of those videos...
To us (non-americans) that looks really unbelievable.
Like how do you know the people in the videos are they only people they talked to? Like they could have talked to hundreds before finding the ones you see. They go with those usually because it generates clicks and possibly revenue. There’s usually an agenda or incentive to find the more ridiculous ones.
you can blame the shitty school system that prioritizes gender politics and sex related stuff over actually teaching the kids anything.

It varies. First off you have to realize how irrelevant most countries are to the avg. American. So yeah, a certain segment never bother to learn anything about the rest the world. But that's not the majority.

Indeed, most American geography teachers in high schools believe Sidney is an African country.
She can't even label all the European countries correctly or should would have posted her results already and you expect her to know states? I bet she couldn't even label all of North America correctly. She'd mess up in the Caribbean for sure.
Definitely not the same thing. The world doesn't revolve around America you know?
Why should you expect us to know ALL the states in YOUR country as if all us States should be general knowledge? Can you name all the cities in the UK? .. or even Canada?
@Anjoomkabir The world doesn't revolve around the UK and Canada, why would you expect me to know all the cities in YOUR country as if it should be general knowledge?
@Anjoomkabir She's the one making the statement that Americans are bad at geography. And I'm trying to explain to her that it's typical of Europeans to get all pissy about Americans not knowing every country in Europe but yet be ignorant of the geography of the states in the US. A state is equivalent to a country.
All I'm saying is there is a massive difference between knowing all the countries in the world and knowing all the us states... which is so miniscule I'm not sure why you've mentioned it. Contrary to your statement "a state is equivalent to a country" other people outside of the US don't see it that way. We see your "Texas" the way we see "west Yorkshire"- yet just another area of the country. Yet I'm sure you didn't know that West Yorkshire was a county in the UK. So how do you expect us to know texas was a state in yours?
The world doesn't revolve around 1 country. We're not expected to know everything and anything about America. BUT having collective knowledge about ALL countries in the world is an attribute.
@Anjoomkabir Whether you see it that way or not, doesn't change the facts. I don't expect you to know where Texas is. But I also don't get on the internet and shit on Europeans as being stupid.
@Anjoomkabir You're not very smart. The USA is like the EU. All states in the USA have their own constitution/legal system. Each state has it's own set of counties within it's borders. Sates are not equivalent to counties. You're just showing off your geographic ignorance. Texas has 254 counties alone. You should know all of the states if you expect people to know all the "states" in Europe. Clearly I know all your states, yet you do not know ours. I personally also happen to know all the States in Mexico and all the provinces and territories in Canada because they are our neighbors. I also know that the UK is composed of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland and can point them all out on a map. You're projecting your own ignorance because Americans are smarter than you.
@BeMuse All I said was we dont NEED to know your states. Its NOT general knowledge unlike knowing countries in each continient. Im not debating the technicalities of states in the US and and what they stand for so don't insult my intelligence. You dont know me. I'm simply saying WE DONT CARE.
@BeMuse because its not important as you think it is
For one thing, I personally can name all the states in US. However IF someone can't, that doesn't make them stupid. What's stupid however is people questioning whether Africa is a country or a continient And that is where having geographical knowledge is crucial
@Anjoomkabir Our states are general knowledge to people who aren't uneducated morons from third world countries. You don't have to care about the world, but you are ignorant of it and expressing that extremely clearly. You insulted your own intelligence by showing the world you think sovereign states are counties. You can't even label all the countries in Europe. You already proved that from my post above several days ago were you didn't take the quiz and post your result. The fact is that's the first time someone has asked me to name them all since I was 15 years old but I could do it. I've only had a 3 month course in geography in high school. During that 3 months I had to map the world by heart as one of our assignments. So yes I can label every single country on every single continent correctly just as I can label every single state in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. You're just slow and act like common knowledge is difficult because you can't do it yourself.
This is a basic overview of the running project that was carried out over 3 months as part of the Florida education curriculum for geography when I attended school. I think we spent 1 day a week on that assignment. The other 4 days we learned other details about world geography.

Nope, it is something that I don't think is taught in schools anymore, or very little.
Many people just don't seem to care about geography at all.
In my view its not just Americans.

Well you should know videos like those usually choose the worst of the worst. Most people i know personally can name lots of countries easily.
Like how do you know the people in the videos are they only people they talked to? Like they could have talked to hundreds before finding the ones you see. They go with those usually because it generates clicks and possibly revenue. There’s usually an agenda or incentive to find the more ridiculous ones.
Yeah, it's why they always fuck up at wars and cause global problems.

I mean, I know most of the major countries, and a lot of the smaller ones, but I can't say I know EVERY single country in the world
When you think you are the center of the world, what else would catch your attention
Stupid people exist all over the world.
Most people don't know where Zambia is so yes lol.
could Europeans name all 50 states?
Not the same thing. No one would call you idiot if you can't name every City of UK.
Exactly the same thing. Each state is essentially a country. We just unite them all under a federal government.
She can't even label all the European countries correctly or should would have posted her results already and you expect her to know states? I bet she couldn't even label all of North America correctly. She'd mess up in the Caribbean for sure.

I DONT
And never said I did
You're the one asking her if she knows all the states in the us
Now you know how absurd you sound
